‘Project Runway All Stars’ Winner To Appear On QVC Monday

Well, QVC’s collaboration with Lifetime’s “Project Runway All Stars” culminating with its finale Thursday night. We missed it. but apparently designer Seth Aaron Henderson was the winner.

He seems like a bit of an Adam Lambert lookalike to us. In any event, he will be designing a collection for QVC and will appear on the network next Monday at 7 p.m. during “PM Style with Lisa Robertson.”

Seth Aaron Henderson

Here is Henderson’s bio from QVC.com:

The season 7 winner is influenced by new wave, punk, ’80s goth, and Brit rock music, as well as movies from the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s. Seth Aaron draws inspiration from European design, too. During his season, impeccable tailoring and eye-catching graphic design made him a cut above the rest.

What’s Seth Aaron been up to? He’s been involved with both TV and the Project Runway family, serving on the judging panel for open calls for seasons 8-12 and doing red-carpet commentary for E!. Besides designing fashion garments, Seth Aaron has created designs for Lexus and Intel, and created a line of fashionable iPad covers.

On the reality competition show, Robertson who presented the contestants with a challenge and served as a guest judge. In addition to the appearance on Monday evening, the victorious designer is scheduled to be a part of QVC’s “Red Carpet Style – Live from L.A.” on Feb. 28.

“QVC strives to bring viewers unique programming moments and exciting new brands,” Karen Fonner, QVC vice president of content marketing and programming, said in a canned statement. “We are honored to introduce a talented designer of Project Runway All Stars caliber to our customers who look to us for compelling personalities and great fashion finds.”

We haven’t seen the show, but it incorporated “the Accessory Wall,” which featured QVC products to complement contestant designs.

And here is part of the home shopping network’s Q&A with Henderson:

Q: How did the QVC accessory wall items support your winning design?
A: It’s all about the stylish modern shoe. Which, I must say, the QVC accessory wall was well-stocked.

Q: We all know accessories can make the outfit. What were your go-to pieces?
A: Always shoes, handbags, and frames. The QVC accessory wall never fell short.

In December, Korto Momolu also appeared on QVC to present a ready-to-wear version of her winning design from the “As Sewn on TV” challenge that Robertson helped judge.

“Working with QVC has been a hugely successful and creative collaboration,” said Rob Bagshaw, executive producer of the Lifetime show. “Our goal is to showcase the incredible talent of the ‘Project Runway All Stars’ designers, and QVC is the perfect platform to provide direct access between designers and the fashion-conscious audience. Thanks to QVC, we are now able to turn our designers’ TV success into tangible business opportunities.”

Designs from the winner’s capsule collection are scheduled to be available on QVC.com beginning today, Friday.

A Final Goodbye To Barry Ort, QVC’s Kenneth Jay Lane Rep

December 30, 2013

Barry Ort

Barry Ort

We founded this obit posted on the Facebook page of Barry Ort, the rep for the Kenneth Jay Lane jewelry line on QVC.

Show hosts Lisa Robertson and Mary Beth Roe both attended services for him in New York today.

Once again, RIP Barry.

BARRY ORT – IN LOVING MEMORY

Barry Ort, age 56, died suddenly in Toronto, Canada on December 24, 2013.

Barry started with jewelry manufacturer TCJC of New York in 1988 and rose to Executive Vice President of the firm.

He was responsible for bringing the first renowned jewelry designer, Kenneth Jay Lane, to QVC in 1991, long before TV selling was considered chic.

Through its enormous success, this led the way for many other designers to join the hit parade.

He always led, he never followed.

Barry’s magic was Barry himself. He was totally comfortable in his skin, he loved his job and TV sales.

He was most fun when teaching the QVC Program Hosts about new Kenneth Lane items. He would layer the necklaces, don the earrings, and chatter about trends and fashion.

A number of years ago he took over the on air duties as spokesperson for the KJL line.

His stories were funny and charming, he was entertaining and knowledgeable.

The viewers absolutely loved him. When Barry talked, everyone listened.

Barry had heart. He was most aligned with the New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center to which he dedicated many charity efforts, particularly cycling events for a cause.

Only Barry could quit smoking, get to the gym daily, and commit to a 300 mile bike ride from Boston to NY simply because he promised to do it and he believed in the important cause.

He was a man of his word.

In community, when asked, Barry was always there.

He made sure that the Breast Cancer Research fundraisers held by QVC and “Shoes on Sale” had a lovely KJL jewelry item in honor of the fight. Anyone who asked received.

He had generosity in his blood.

And he loved his friends and family. There are too many memories of Barry to recount, but his Bar Mitzvah as a grown man, his 50th birthday party, and his dancing with Donna Summer on stage at “Shoes on Sale” drew the crowd to its feet.

His marriage and adoration to forever partner David was storybook perfect.

When we think of Barry, we will remember his enthusiasm and passion for business and life, plus his simple desire to do good and make a difference.

Honorable, classy, a rare and true gem.

We should all be so lucky to have a Barry in our lives.

Rest in peace gentle soul.

After being named the winner of the challenge, the week’s top designer will appear on QVC with Robertson “to offer a ready-to-wear version of his or her winning design,” the release said.

On Monday night during Robertson’s PM Style” show, the winner “will experience the thrill of introducing their creation to a captive audience of consumers on live television.” Whoop-de-do!

“As a live network, we have a unique ability to affect our programming in real time, reacting to pop culture and maximizing our collaboration with ‘Project Runway All Stars,’” Karen Fonner, QVC vice president of content marketing and programming, said in a canned statement. “We are excited for Lisa to be a part of the show and are eager to introduce QVC to viewers who might not have shopped with us before seeing this challenge.”

During the Lifetime show this season, the designers have used the QVC Accessory Wall to help complete their looks for the runway. In addition to the QVC red-carpet challenge this week, the grand prize winner of “Project Runway All Stars” will design a capsule collection for QVC, scheduled to be available following the season finale in January.

“We’re pleased that our collaboration with QVC offers the winning designers the opportunity to introduce their pieces directly to consumers via multimedia exposure,” Meryl Poster, executive producer of “Project Runway All Stars,” said in her canned statement. “It’s a great way for these up-and-comers to reach a wider retail market.”

The “As Sewn on TV” episode airs tonight at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.

Bare Escentuals’ Leslie Blodgett Returns To QVC Nov. 22

October 29, 2013

For those QVC fans of mineral makeup maven Leslie Blodgett, good news.

Blodgett, longtime chief of the Bare Escentuals cosmetics line, on Monday posted on Facebook that she will be making a visit to the home shopping network in November. She will be appearing with QVC host Lisa Robertson.

Here is the post:

Secret: Lisa my BFF invited me to be on her show nov 22 qvc. Special stuff. I will share more as I learn more. But so excited.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Leslie-Blodgett/129478360410877?hc_location=stream

This weekend we did a blog saying that several months ago, unbeknownst, doe-eyed Blodgett has posted a letter on Facebook saying she wasn’t going to be doing shows for Bare Escentuals anymore.

First Diamond Dean Michael O’Connor, Now Makeup Queen Leslie Blodgett Gone From QVC?

We guess Robertson made her an offer she couldn’t refuse.

QVC Gets A Gig On ‘Project Runway All Stars’ On Lifetime

October 23, 2013

QVC has a big deal going with Lifetime’s “Project Runway All Stars,” where the home shopping network’s host Lisa Robertson will be acting as a guest judge along with — get this — “Mad Men’s” Elisabeth Moss (no relation).

QVC announced Tuesday that it is scheduled to sponsor the Accessory Wall on the design competition series, and that it will host a design challenge for the contestants. In addition, the season’s grand-prize winner will have the opportunity to design a collection for QVC.

There was a little quirk about this press release, we’ll note. Although the headline was posted on QVC.com, when we tried to open it the releases was gone. We found it by Googling it, so we don’t know what’s up what that.

“We were eager to collaborate on this season of Lifetime’s ‘Project Runway All Stars’ since it targets the interests of women that are central to our shopping community,” QVC vice president of content marketing Karen Fonner said in a canned statement in the announcement. “By aligning with the popular series, we have the opportunity to increase exposure as a fashion authority in a culturally relevant way.”

Robertson will guest judge the challenge, sponsored by QVC.

Check out this hype from the press release:

With the retailer’s reputable position in the fashion industry, Robertson has become a relatable style authority and is set to join returning judge Isaac Mizrahi, “Mad Men” actress Elisabeth Moss and former Project Runway winner Mondo Guerra. The contestant who wins the QVC challenge will have a look inspired by their design sold through the multimedia retailer following the episode.

“Given the notable fashion and accessories brands QVC offers, they were a natural fit to sponsor this season’s Accessory Wall and host a challenge,” said Meryl Poster, executive producer of “Project Runway All Stars.” “QVC also works with a range of design and style experts, including the series’ judge Isaac Mizrahi, making it well respected in the industry.”

The third season of “Project Runway All Stars” is scheduled to air on Lifetime beginning Thursday, Oct. 24.

We already wrote about this, folks, but here is QVC’s better-late-than-never press release about its involvement with the new Bethenny Frankel show:

QVC BETS ON BETHENNY!

QVC’s Robertson, Venable To Appear On Bethenny Frankel Show

September 21, 2013

As our colleague at our day job, Hugh Morley, would say — Ai, ai, ai (or however that’s spelled)!

QVC’s “lifestyle experts,” hosts Lisa Robertson and David Venable, will apparently be making regular appearances on Bethenny Frankel’s new TV show.

Bethenny Frankel

Bethenny Frankel

Here’ what QVC.com has to say:

Daytime talk show host Bethenny Frankel, the “Queen of Too Much Information,” is teaming up with QVC’s own lifestyle experts David Venable and Lisa Robertson throughout the inaugural season of bethenny. Watch David and Lisa dish with the self-made businesswoman on everything from fashion must-haves and home-decorating ideas to cooking tips, beauty, and more.

Bethenny Frankel brings her uniquely honest, unfiltered, playful perspective to her very own daytime talk show. Encouraging her audience to love and accept themselves while taking risks to impact their lives, family, friends, and communities, Bethenny orchestrates it all while maintaining a sense of humor, candidness, and point of view—always coming from a place of yes.

Bethenny will cover the topics that women care about most—from love and relationships to celebrities and pop culture to beauty, cooking tips, and fitness, all through Bethenny’s own personal and professional life experiences.

Expect it all, from fun and spontaneous celebrity interviews to informative takeaways on health and relationship issues, as bethenny is quickly becoming the go-to destination for women every day to learn, laugh, feel inspired, be transformed, and, ultimately, in Bethenny’s words, “always go for it.”

Venable will be appearing Sept. 24.

We don’t particularly consider Robertson and Venable lifestyle experts, but what the heck. We do know, and were shocked when we learned it, that Venable’s “In the Kitchen With David” is a huge, more than $100 million money maker for QVC. We’ve never bought one item from it, but what do we know?

We actually like Frankel, and we have a bottle of her Skinny Girl Margarita sitting in our refridgerator.

QVC ‘Super Saturday Live’ From Hamptons, With Ripa, Comes Saturday

July 24, 2013

QVC and Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) are uniting once again for “QVC Presents Super Saturday LIVE,” which will broadcast live from the Hamptons on Saturday. We won’t be there. Jersey girls go “down the shore,” and that ain’t in Long Island.

Anyway, QVC’s designer charity sale will be selling fashion, beauty, jewelry, accessories and home items for half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price with net proceeds benefiting OCRF’s research grants and its patient support program, Woman to Woman.

This year’s broadcast will feature brands such as Philosophy, Mally Beauty, Jai by John Hardy, Laura Geller, Amrita Singh, Honora and more. “QVC Presents Super Saturday LIVE” will be doing celeb interviews from the red carpet.

“QVC’s role in Super Saturday LIVE exemplifies our ongoing commitment to support the success and wellness of women through the power of relationships,” QVC U.S. CEO Claire Watts said in a canned statement. “This year’s broadcast incorporates some very exciting premier brands, which we hope will help to increase awareness of OCRF even more.”

QVC will once launch a dedicated Pinterest campaign, “Pin it Forward,” designed to generate awareness and funds for OCRF’s cause. The home shopping network has created a Super Saturday board. Followers are encouraged to pin with a purpose now through the event. For every pin, QVC will donate $1 to OCRF, up to $10,000.

Jersey girl Kelly Ripa (traitor, for going to the Hamptons), will once again lend her support as the host of the event, while QVC’s Lisa Robertson will take viewers inside the event.

“QVC’s efforts have played a major role in accomplishing OCRF’s overall mission of advancing the field of ovarian cancer research and creating awareness of this often difficult to detect disease,” OCRF CEO Audra Moran said. “With QVC’s help, our message extends beyond the Hamptons community and into millions of U.S. homes.”

QVC Diva Lisa Robertson, Kelly Ripa Team On Cancer PSAs

June 27, 2013

How’s this for hype, part of a press release issued by QVC Wednesday:

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (June 26, 2013) – Talk about a show stopper! Two of the hottest hosts in live television – Kelly Ripa and Lisa Robertson – appear in both print and television public service announcements promoting “QVC Presents Super Saturday LIVE” on QVC Saturday, July 27 at 2 PM (ET), with net proceeds benefiting Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF).

We don’t know if we’d call them TV’s hottest hosts but Ripa, co-star of “LIVE with Kelly and Michael,” will once again serve as host for the fund’s “celebrity garage sale” in the Hamptons. Robertson will tag along to take viewers inside the event during the “QVC Presents Super Saturday LIVE” broadcast.

Lisa Robertson

Lisa Robertson

QVC began broadcasting from the Saturday sale in 2006, offering its viewers fashion, beauty, jewelry, accessories and home items for half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, with net proceeds benefiting OCRF.

“It has been a pleasure to host this exciting show since the beginning and watch it rapidly grow into one of our highest viewed programming events,” Robertson said in a canned quote. “For me, personally, it has been amazing to be a part of such an important cause. If even one woman benefits from our broadcast then I feel that we have made an impact in helping to build awareness for this difficult- to-diagnose disease.”

Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers in the United States and is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among American women.

QVC’s PSA campaign was designed to bring more awareness of this often “masked” disease.

“QVC continues to be one of our greatest supporters and we are so thankful to Kelly and Lisa for continuing the fight this year to help bring attention to the importance of research for Ovarian Cancer,” said Audra Moran, the CEO of OCRF. “We look forward to QVC’s involvement again this year and, of course, the amazing awareness that their broadcast brings to the event.”

Highlights Of QVC’s Gem Day: Affinity Diamond Highway Ring And Chrome Ceramic Watch

June 26, 2012

We’ve been backlogged again, and working Sundays, so couldn’t find time until today to comment on QVC’s Gem Day Saturday.

We weren’t overwhelmed, but since QVC has cut back so many of its jewelry presentations, we guess we shouldn’t complain.

QVC featured some new jewels for its airwaves, such as icy pink morganite. But that’s a stone that’s been a staple on ShopNBC and Jewelry Television.

The No. 1 home shopping network also hawked a lot of drusy, but once again the prices were exorbitant. QVC boasts that it only uses top-grade drusy. We’d rather have not top-quality drusy, and have a piece of jewelry that doesn’t break the bank.

The one thing we really were impressed with was Affinity Diamonds. Apparently so-called “highway” rings, which feature multiple bands attached to each other, are hot now. And QVC had a gorgeous tricolor one with diamonds.

Host Lisa Robertson and QVC diamond maven Michael O’Connor also showed off a chrome-colored ceramic watch with diamonds surrounding the face. That was a stunning piece.

O’Connor allayed our fears about the durability of ceramic watches. He said that the ceramic in QVC’s watches was an 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, harder than sapphires and almost as hard as a diamond. He added that the chrome color was baked through the watch, not just painted on. It was stunning.
