Paula Deen Gets Weekly Show On Evine

October 28, 2016

Evine is looking to fully leverage the popularity of once-shunned Southern chef Paula Deen.

Deen, who was banished as a QVC vendor after a report surfaced of her using a racial epithet years ago, then came over to Evine. This week, on “Fox & Friends,” she announced that she will be doing a live weekly show on Evine, premiering Nov. 15

It’s called “Sweet Home Savannah,” and it looks like it wil emulate the Food Network show Deen had before the furor over her remarks.

“Join your favorite Georgia Peach as she shares her sweet charm and impeccable taste to help us laugh, love and live in southern-style comfort,” Evine says.

Deen will be sharing info about the cookware, clothing and housewares she sells on Evine now.

“You’ll also get a chance to meet her dear friends and family who make her life so special,” Evine says.

Chrisley Comes To HSN With Clothing Line

October 26, 2016

Our mom’s great caretaker, Irene, is a big fan of “Chrisley Knows Best” on USA Network. She tipped us off to the show.

Little did we know that this would have a home shopping connection, as Savannah Chrisley is debuting a fashion line on HSN. Viewers of the TV show got a gander of the goods on the reality series last night, and People magazine did a big story and Q-and-A with the 19-year-old about it.

http://people.com/style/savannah-chrisley-hsn-line-todd-chrisley/

We didn’t see the episode, but according to People Savannah traveled with her dad Todd to the Big Apple to meet with HSN vendor Giuliana Rancic.

The Chrisley Southern Charm collection will bow on HSN next spring or early summer.

It apparel is supposed to be properly modest for young women.

Needless to say, Savannah is just one of a large number of reality-TV show stars that are hawking products on home shopping networks.

Trump TV, QVC And Fox News Channel

October 20, 2016

Reading through the coverage of Wednesday night’s presidential debate, we were surprised to see QVC’s name come up in The New York Times. And we have a bone to pick about it.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Donald Trump’s son-in-law had been talking to investors about launching a cable network. That prompted a Times story today with the headline “Was Wednesday the final presidential debate of 2016 or the opening night of the Trump News Channel?”

“If you’re tired of biased, mainstream media reporting (otherwise known as Crooked Hillary’s super PAC), tune into my Facebook Live broadcast,” Trump posted.

“That ramshackle pregame show was like state television produced by QVC, with interviews by, of and for Mr. Trump’s supporters, cable-news-like graphics and a relentless sales pitch,” The Times wrote.

That was not a QVC-like production, folks. That was a Fox News Channel show.

New Joan Rivers’ Bio Coming Next Month

October 19, 2016

We just learned that there is a new biography of QVC queen Joan Rivers about to come out.

“Last Girl Before Freeway: The Life, Loves, Losses, and Liberation of Joan Rivers” has been written by veteran journalist Leslie Bennetts.

http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-316-26130-2

The author, a Vanity Fair editor, will be speaking about the bio as part of the Open Book/Open Mind Conversations series at the Montclair Public Library in our New Jersey hometown. The event is Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m.

“This is to be the definitive book about Joan Rivers’ tumultuous, victorious, tragic, hilarious, and fascinating life,” according to the library.

Gloria Steinem offered a quote about Rivers for the book.

“You may think you know Joan Rivers, but I’ll bet you’ll be shocked by the revelations in Leslie Bennetts’s irresistible biography.

Before there was a women’s movement or much hope for a woman in stand-up comedy, Joan made it by ridiculing everything she craved, from beauty and respectability to fashion and power.

With unmatched energy and an ambition that made Napoleon look like Gandhi, she broke the boundaries of taste and commonsense-and widened the path for us all.”

The book is being released Nov. 15, and is being published by Little, Brown & Co.

Anyone who lives in the area and wants to attend the library event may register at montclairlibrary.org/openbook.

October 18, 2016

Hip-hop star Nicki Minaj’s big booty will be back on HSN Thursday, when she returns to the home shopping network to debut her latest fragrance.

The singer will be appearing on “The Beauty Report” to hawk “Trini Girl,” the new perfume.

The fragrance is already being sold on HSN.com.

It is described as “Vivacious. Tantalizing. Exotic. Capture the captivating charm of Nicki’s proud Trinidadian heritage with this beautiful fragrance. Let its sensual cocktail of juicy fruits and creamy coconut inspire you to stay true to who are and where you come from.”

Minaj already sells a number of her fragrances, which all come in decorative bottles that depict a bust of her (no pun intended), on HSN.

One of her fragrances some time back was a TS, and her appearance caused a stir among HSN viewers who disapproved of her sexy image and performances.

Get Carol Burnett’s Sequined Jacket On QVC

October 18, 2016

Want to have the same sequined jacket that comedian Carol Burnett is wearing on the cover of her new book? You can buy it at QVC.

Famed fashion designer Bob Mackie said last night on-air that Burnett is sporting one of his QVC creations on the book-jacket photo for “In Such Good Company: Eleven Years of Laughter, Mayhem, and Fun in the Sandbox.”

When Burnett was doing her hilarious hit comedy show, Mackie designed the costumes for her skits, we believe. This apparently included the famed drapes-snd-curtain-rod outfit for her “Gone With The Wind” takeoff, where she portrayed Scarlett O’Hara.

The “long-sleeve jewel neckline sequin jacket” sells for $73 on QVC.com and has an animal-print look.

http://www.qvc.com/Bob-Mackies-Long-Sleeve-Jewel-Neckline-Sequin-Jacket.product.A271125.html?sc=A271125-SRCH&cm_sp=VIEWPOSITION-_-1-_-A271125&catentryImage=http://images.qvc.com/is/image/a/25/a271125.001?$uslarge$

Burnett is rocking it in teal, but it also comes in charcoal, olive, purple and bronze.

Here’s its description:

The stalk of the town. Style takes a turn for the fabulously feral in this jungle-inspired jacket from Bob Mackie. The already alluring animal print is adorned with shimmering sequins and complemented by an open front and elegant jewel neckline. The result is a look that will have admirers tracking your every move. From Bob Mackie. Features: sequined, animal print, long sleeves, open front, jewel neckline, hook-and-eye closure.

At HSN’s $160 Price, Our Bling Will Stay Dirty

October 17, 2016

We daresay that there are few more rabid jewelry lovers than us and our mom.

That said, we would never pay $160 for a fancy jewelry cleaner, which is what HSN is charging for its Today’s Special this Monday.

https://www.hsn.com/todays-special

Oh sorry, it is officially a “3-in-1 Jewelry Cleaner and Sanitizer.”

Here’s the pitch from HSN:

Now is your time to sparkle, shimmer and shine. Bring home this versatile cleaning solution for on-demand, professional-grade cleaning of jewelry, glasses, watch bands and more.

Use the power of ultrasonic waves and steam to remove dirt and oil from your lovely pieces. The UV light not only dries and sanitizes your jewelry, it’s also a great choice to sanitize items that should not be exposed to liquid or steam. You shine everyday; your jewelry should, too.

Steam, great.

Ultrasonic waves, great.

UV light, great.

Price at $160? Not so great.

We guess we’re going to be walking around with dirty baubles.

Are we nuts or is this device a pretty pricey proposition?
