Last night Lisa and Britnny Gastineau debuted their Gastineau Glamour jewelry line on HSN, right after gem goddess Carol Brodie had presented her Rarities line.

Carol Brodie's matte onyx beaded bracelet
Now is it just us, or did their matte onyx and CZ beaded bracelet have a striking resemblance to the black onyx and champaigne adjustable bracelet that Brodie introduced the hour before?
We’re just saying.
We love Brodie, but in this particular case that beaded bracelet didn’t seem quite so much of a rarity.
Here’s an odd couple for you: Judith Ripka and Lindsay Lohan.
Ripka, of course, is the high-end Manhattan jewelry designer who does a lower-priced line for QVC. Lohan, of course, is the lost soul who faces jail for walking out of a Los Angeles jewelry store with a $2,500 necklace. We’re sure she just forgot she had it on.
Judith Ripka
On Friday the New York Post had a story about Lohan with the headline “Keeping an Eye on Lohan: Wears ‘Evil’ 2G bling to hearing.”
It seems that Lohan was wearing a so-called Evil Eye pendant by Ripka to a court hearing. The $2,200 piece of jewelry, said to protect its wearer from bad thoughts and spirits, was in 18 carat gold. There is a photo of Lohan wearing the necklace as she walked into court.
The Post said that a New York entrepreneur, Eric Freiberg, gave the Evil Eye pendant to Lohan to help her through the tough times she is experiencing. Maybe he’s hoping to get lucky with her.
Anyway, we wish someone a guy would send us a $2,200 Ripka pendant.
We do have an evil eye pendant, actually (but we could always use another one).
Ripka, a very gracious and charming lady, has been on QVC all this weekend. She had Saturday’s Today’s Special Value, a copy of a “Dew Drop” necklace that is part of her couture collection.
Lisa and Brittny Gastineau, of the E! reality show “Gastineau Girls,” are bringing a jewelry line to HSN.
The mom-and-daughter team will debut “Gastineau Glamour” March 21 on the home shopping network.
Here are the canned quotes from the pair.
“I’ve always had an eye for dressing and accessorizing, and Brittny and I are excited to bring our collection to life when we appear on HSN,” Lisa said.
And Brittny “added,” “My mom and I have always been extremely close and that will quickly become apparent when we appear on HSN. We can’t wait to share the inspirations behind the designs and be able to demonstrate to a large audience the passion we have for jewelry.”
We hate when people use cutesy spellings for their names, Brittny.
The Gastineau baubles will be modern interpretations of vintage, with pieces that feature estate-inspired looks and boho chic designs, ranging from couture-inspired necklaces and earrings, to rings, cuffs and bracelets.
“From the moment I met the Gastineaus, I knew they would be a great addition to our growing portfolio of jewelry brands,” said John Bosco, HSN senior vice president of apparel, accessories and jewelry. “Their charm, creativity and vast knowledge of jewelry will resonate with our customers.”
The Gastineau women apparently do have experience in the jewelry industry. Lisa has worked in the jewelry industry for 15 years both as a buyer and owner of two NY boutiques. The Gastineaus made their debut in fine jewelry with the launch of Tres Glam last year. Tres Glam has graced some of Hollywood’s brightest stars on the red carpet, including Debra Messing, AnnaLynne McCord, Kristin Cavallari and Guiliana Rancic.
Here’s the boilerplate on the Gastineau women.
In the 80’s, Lisa opened her first boutique, Lisa Piece’s on Long Island’s affluent gold coast, followed quickly with the opening of a second haute boutique, Avalon, in the Hamptons. Continuing from the successes of the stores, in the late 90’s, Lisa partnered with her own mother in a culmination of buying and selling expertise when they opened Trends, a vintage jewelry and textiles boutique.
Continuing her love for vintage jewelry, Lisa partnered with her daughter Brittny to create their luxury jewelry collection, Tres Glam. Launched in 2009, Tres Glam, marries timeless New York with modern Hollywood creating elemental jewel masterpieces. The unique reinterpreted and redesigned symbols make for a distinct yet recognizable statement.
The collection’s iconic Anti Envy eye is coveted by Hollywood socialites and supermodels alike, and is at the heart of the brand’s celebration of a woman’s intuition, awareness, and triumphs. Tres Glam has graced Hollywood’s red carpet, worn by leading international actresses Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts, AnnaLynne McCord, Debra Messing, and many more.
Our BFF Ann sent us what we thought was a very insightful blog about the “Dateline” show on ShopNBC vendor/actress/entrepreneur/best-selling author Suzanne Somers.
The blog, “Suzanne Somers: Cancer Expert,” was written by Dr. Barron Lerner for The New York Times. “Dateline” reported on critics, and supporters, of Somers’ controversial beliefs on using alternative medicine to treat cancer, deal with menopause, etc. She wrote a book on her cancer beliefs called “Knockout.”
Suzanne Somers
“Is it entirely outrageous that respected media organizations continue to give the ‘Three’s Company’ sitcom star a platform to dispense medical advice?” Lerner asked. “Not really, in a world in which celebrities have become among the most recognizable spokespeople — and sometimes experts — about various diseases.”
He is an expert on the topic, having authored a book called “When Illness Goes Public: Celebrity Patients and How We Look at Medicine.”
He notes that Somers, “after receiving surgery and radiation for her breast cancer in 2001, declined chemotherapy in favor of a drug made from mistletoe extract.”
And he talks about the nontraditional doctors that Somers touts: Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski and Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez.
“Dr. Burzynski, based in Houston, has treated more than 10,000 cancer patients with naturally occurring proteins that he calls antineoplastons,” Lerner wrote in his blog. “Dr. Gonzalez, who practices in New York City and has gained notoriety for his use of coffee enemas, uses a regimen similar to that given to Steve McQueen, although without the laetrile.”
Lerner previously interviewed several patients who were cured by Gonzalez.
“I met several who had been told by mainstream oncologists that they had incurable cancer but who were very much alive five, 10 or even 20 years later,” he wrote in The Times. “Yet it is hard to know what to make of these anecdotes, however powerful they are. Medicine relies on formal scientific studies…”
In the end, Lerner comes to Somers’ defense, to a degree.
“So why does Ms. Somers promote these unproven therapies?,” he wrote. “She said she believes that oncologists do not inform end-stage cancer patients about nontraditional options, and that such people deserve to know. Here Ms. Somers may have a point. Although oncologists are surely under no obligation to promote therapies they believe are useless or harmful, patients — especially those who want to explore every possible avenue — have the right to know that there are unorthodox cancer therapies that some people believe are helpful.”
But, Lerner said, Somers should not be promoting false hope.
We’ll be fair. We criticized QVC host Lisa Robertson’s dress for the home shopping network’s big pre-Oscar party in Beverly Hillls last night. It made her look hippy.
Well, she is more than making up for that dreadful Isaac Mizrahi dress last night. She looks stunning tonight in a gorgeous, two-toned peacock green sleeveless gown with feathers on one side of the bodice. It’s by Mark Zunino, who is Nolan Miller’s partner in a QVC jewelry line.
Robertson looks so fine that when her fellow QVC host Shawn Killinger saw her, she asked, “Are you single?”
We just got in and tuned in to QVC’s Red Carpet pre-Oscar shindig at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. We’ve got to hand it to QVC — there is a huge crowd there, and when we came in actress Marlee Matlin was using sign language to say something that we missed.
Now QVC jewelry queen Joan Rivers is talking to host Lisa Robertson, hawking sunglasses.
Lisa Robertson, we wished we liked your red carpet dress
Earlier in the day, on Facebook Robertson said she was heading out to get made up for the party five hours before it started. “It takes a village,” she joked, to get her ready to go on-air. So we were looking forward to see how she looked.
Robertson is a beautiful woman, but she is clad in a long beige gown that is pulling against her stomach area and making her look heavy — which we know she isn’t. This unflattering dress is apparently by QVC designer Isaac Mizrahi. Isaac, Isaac, Isaac.
Robertson’s side ponytail is not such a great look, either. And guess who did the hair? QVC vendor Nick Chavez. Nick, Nick, Nick.
We also got a gander at QVC host Shawn Killinger, who is running around with a microphone interviewing the partygoers. She’s wearing a short black babydoll dress, and her boobs are popping out of the top of it.
Now model Camila Alves, actor Matthew McConaughey’s baby mama, is showing off a pretty fringed bag and a huge bag she did for QVC. She is dressed in a beautful black sequined dress, and looks stunning.
Kim and Kourtney Kardashian are being interviewed on the red carpet, and will soon be pitching their QVC clothing line, K-Dash.
And FYI, vendors and hosts from different home shopping networks do fraternize together. Former QVC host Dave King, who is now at ShopNBC, is also in LA. And on his Facebook page he posted a photo of him, Robertson and Laurie Feltheimer, who does the “Hot in Hollywood” line for HSN, at a restaurant.
QVC will be back in Cali this weekend for the second year in a row to ride the red-carpet coattails of the Oscars.
Claiming that it got “impressive viewership” with its first such broadcast, “Buzz on the Red Carpet – Live from LA” will, or so the press release says, QVC “once again take viewers behind-the-scenes with exclusive content from top fashion designers, beauty newsmakers, celebrities and more.”
There will be two live broadcasts, this Friday at 9 p.m. (ET) and Saturday at 8 p.m. (ET).
During the shindig at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, “Gossip Girl” actress Kelly Rutherford will finally debut her luxury handbag line during the Saturday broadcast.
“Much like New York during Fashion Week, there is no place like Los Angeles during awards season,” QVC U.S. CEO Claire Watts said in a canned statement. “’The Buzz’ on the Red Carpet broadcast aims to offer engaging programming that takes our viewers where they want to go. With our lineup of personalities and industry experts, we feel confident that this season will be full of excitement for our customers.”
Fashion designers including Isaac Mizrahi, Dennis Basso and Marc Bouwer are scheduled to appear during the broadcasts along with Lori Goldstein, the Kardashians and Melania Trump.
Actor Matthew McConaughy’s girlfriend (and mother of his child) Camila Alves and costume designer Janie Bryant, of “Mad Men,” will also present their latest collections. They will join some of the best in the beauty business including Kate Somerville, Josie Maran, Laura Geller, Smashbox and Tarte, among others, will be on hand.
QVC.com will host a special online preview of the event now through Friday.
ShopNBC vendor, actress and best-selling author Suzanne Somers deemed last night’s “Dateline” segment, “A Dose of Controversy,” on her alternative-medicine views a success, although she apparently took some lumps.
“Well, Friends…I consider the segment a victory,” Somers wrote on Facebook Monday. “I knew they would be harsh-but they dedicated a full hour of primetime to alternative cancer medicine. Even though they tried to discredit these amazing doctors, those who are interested will know how to find them. Thanks for your support.”
We missed the show. And we have least one friend who is cancer survivor who had some pretty strong words — none good –about what she called Somers’ advocacy of “unproven” non-traditional medical treatments for cancer.
Suzanne Somers courts controversy
Here are some of the comments Somers’ got on her Facebook posting:
So glad you’re here to give Alternative Medicine another voice. In addition to the treatments of the actual diagnosis, could / would you address the problem of how do “deal” with the so-called “chemo brain syndrome”? …need to read your book again, it’s been a while… Thank you so very much.
I am so sorry they “came across” like you are Crissy. Sad. Stay on it girl! You are the voice for getting alternatives known!!!! God Bless!
I thought it was great! You did an awesome job of staying in control and on track. You were strong and clear with your experience and information. I am loving Sexy Forever, and you have already helped direct me to a Dr. that specia…lizes in BHRT, as my gyno believes one-size fits all. I thank you and my family thanks you! Any way you look at it, last nights Dateline piece was a victory for alternative treatment! You have helped give all people that are frustrated with their past and present traditional medical treatment other options. PS. You have looked fabulous while speaking about it on air!!!
They will try to discredit/outlaw bioidenticals and alternative medicine, but continue to produce and subsidize poison they call “food”.
Thank You for standing up for all of us…..
The nutritionist from Sloan Kettering was extremely negative, I kept wondering what kind of guidance and help she offers her patients..and how can she be so absolute when the woman who beat pancreatic cancer with Dr Gonzalas’s protocol was… interviewed and spoke of her cure. I wish that Nancy Snyderman would have pressed her on that. And it would have been good to hear from Gary Null who has done tireless research on alternative cancer treatment, including Bursynski’s. And finally, Dr Weil?? what’s up with him..what does he actually believe when it comes to best treatments???
Well done SS !
They were pretty harsh Suzanne …..
You are SO amazingly Brave to state your truth to the world and I am right there with you girlfriend!
Is there a site where the whole interview could be seen? funny how they cut you off when asked about if the doctors were transparent in their studies. Dont know if anyone else caught that.
It was a great segment! Keep up all of your terrrific projects! Educating those that need the information you possess!
Why don’t these two types of Doctors work together that would make some sense…Blend the research. I wish cancer research would be further along. Thx SS for your Info throw the years, on menopause good stuff.
Anyone catch the “Dateline” segment last night on Suzanne Somers?
We were out, catching with an old high school friend.
Somers had been worried that “Dateline” was going to a hatchet job on her and her non-traditional beliefs about treating cancer, dealing with menopause, etc. The topic springs from Somers’ controversial bestseller, “Knockout.”
The blonde entrepreneur used to have a line on HSN, but is now on ShopNBC.
“Dateline” is about to take aim at entrepreneur/ShopNBC vendor Suzanne Somers — and the blonde best-selling author is expecting it will be a hatchet job.
Somers has several posting on Facebook about the upcoming segment Sunday, which is named, “Suzanne Somers: Hope or Hype?” Somers supports controversial alternative medicine, for everything from treating cancer (she wrote a book called “Knockout” on the subject) to dealing wth post-menopause.
“Dateline has been working on this piece for about a year,” Somers posted Thursday. “I have been interviewed three times. The doctors I feature in KNOCKOUT have been interviewed. They are bound to come after me, but I can handle it, in the hopes there will be enough left in the final edit to show the amazing work these alternative doctors are doing and the numerous lives they are saving. Please watch.”
Suzanne Somers
Here is what “Dateline” is saying out the segment on its website.
Feb. 20: ‘Suzanne Somers: Hope or Hype?’ Critics may call her irresponsible, but Suzanne Somers says America’s doctors just aren’t telling cancer patients the whole truth. This Sunday on “Dateline NBC,” Dr. Nancy Snyderman speaks with Somers about the experiences that propelled her to write one of her most controversial books to date, in which she highlights the non-traditional methods of doctors that she says are being shunned by conventional medicine.
In the episode airing at 7 pm/et, “Dateline” also speaks with two of the doctors that Somers claims are curing cancer– hearing more about their unorthodox methods that range from protein treatments, to coffee enemas and tests for cancer using hair.
Taking a closer look at the methods and curing effects that these doctors claim to be valid, we’ll also hear from various medical professionals who call these types of cancer treatments nonsensical and irresponsible. Dr. Nancy Snyderman tries to get to the bottom of why Somers, a nationally recognized and respected TV icon, would put her endorsement behind what appears to be such odd science.
“Stop looking at it as quackery,” says Somers, who denies any feelings of acting irresponsibly. When it comes to her support of these alternative cancer treatments, she says, “This is my proudest achievement so far.”
It will be interesting to see how Somers comes across in the story.
