HSN’s Good Deed: Designer Ornaments For St. Jude

October 22, 2010

Jay King's ornament

We think HSN’s Designer Ornament event is a pretty neat idea, and all for a good cause.

The No. 2 home shopping network asked a bunch of its vendors — 73 total — to each design a Christmas tree decoration for its HSN 2010 Designer Ornament Collection. The ornaments, which HSN has been selling on-air for the past two days, range in price from $20 to $40.

So Susan Lucci, Diane Gilman, Emeril Lagasse, Jay King, Mary J. Blige, Martha Sewart, Jennifer Stallone, Twiggy and Gwen Stefani were among the HSN vendors who designed ornaments for the collection.

The sale of the ornaments is supporting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a pediatric research and treatment center devoted solely to finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses.

In fact, 100 percent of the profits, no less than 30 percent of the purchase price of each ornament, will be donated to St. Jude.

We particularly liked Twiggy’s Union Jack version, King’s white and turquoise ornament, Stallone’s cute Santa and Emeril’s purple turnip.

Twiggy Is Just ‘Brilliant’ On HSN, And We Hope Her Jeans Are, Too

April 3, 2010

Saturday is Twiggy day on HSN.

The 1960s modeling icon — of short hair and painted lower eyelashes — debuted her Twiggy London line at midnight with her Today’s Special, a Union Jack Tote in a variety colors.

“I carry my life in my bag,” she said during her Saturday morning show. Now there’s something we girls can relate to.

Twiggy, now sporting long hair and more girth that during her modeling salad days, is quite charming. We like how she keeps throwing in British slang and word uses like calling items “brilliant” and talking about putting “bits” in her purse.

Twiggy, who expanded her career to include acting (with two Golden Globes and a Tony nomination) and even being a judge on “America’s Next Top Model,” is rocking a long gypsy skirt that we loved. But we were afraid it would be too long for 5-foot-2 shrimps like us.

Instead, we decided to give Twiggy’s jeans a try, in the grey color that we love so much but is so hard to find in retail.

We’re praying that their waistband don’t fall just two inches above our private parts, like 90 percent of the other jeans we’ve been trying on. How can you not feel like your pants are falling off?

Twiggy will be on all Saturday.

Mod Model Twiggy, Still Looking Good, Mounts British Invasion At HSN

March 25, 2010

We missed Twiggy on Tuesday.

The modeling icon of the 1960s was in Manhattan, at the Terrace Loft at the Bryant Park Hotel, to preview her new “Twiggy London” collection for HSN.

But we were tied to our computer, on deadline for a story, and didn’t have the time to trek into the city. We really wanted to be there.

We’ve already received a flyer from HSN about Twiggy’s line of clothes and accessories, which debuts April 3. It shows Twiggy, most recently a judge on “America’s Next Top Model,” wearing a long tiered shirt that’s right up our alley.

There are also several photos of the Union Jack handbag that will HSN’s Today Special April 3.

As we are one-quarter English (grandpa was Percy Moss, from Bolton, England), we welcome this British invasion.

Twiggy Set To Bring London Style To HSN April 3

March 9, 2010

Former bone-thin model Twiggy is doing a line of clothing and accessories for HSN that will debut April 3, the home shopping network announced on its Facebook page Tuesday.

With “Twiggy London,” the “original supermodel is bringing a lifestyle brand of eclectic and iconic apparel and accessories from across the pond,” HSN said.

Twiggy “burst upon the fashion scene” in 1966, with her trademark look of short hair, spikey eyelashes and “waif-like figure,” according to HSN.

Her HSN merchandise will have “loads of color and embellishment.”

Can’t wait to see it.
