QVC’s Official Dope On ‘Queer Eye’ Guy Thom Filicia’s New Bedding Line

February 18, 2011

We wrote about former “Queen Eye For The Straight Guy” Thom Filicia bringing a bedding line to QVC earlier this week and here, finally, is the official press release.

THOM FILICIA IS AT HOME WITH NEW QVC COLLECTION

Celebrity Interior Designer to Debut His First Bedding Line with the Multimedia Retailer

West Chester, Pa. (February 15, 2011) – From starring in such hit shows as Tacky House, Dress My Nest and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy to penning his one-of-a kind design book, Thom Filicia has dedicated his career to helping others create the perfect living space. Now, the Emmy Award winner is about to take his passion one step further as he unveils his brand-new bedding collectionon QVC.

Thom Filicia Designs for Living is scheduled to debut Wednesday, February 16 at 7 PM (ET) and will include an exquisite assortment of top-of-bed pieces, including comforters, pillows, throws and sheet sets. The collection employs beautiful pops of color combined with interesting textures and bold patterns brought together with classic detailing. The design is fresh, fun and inviting with an inspiring collected and coordinated look.

“While Thom may best be known for his television roles, his unique design aesthetic and fresh, approachable style are what truly make him a star,” said John Kelly, vice president of merchandising for QVC. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to offer this exciting new line to our shoppers.”

Priced between $28.00 and $250.00, Thom Filicia Designs for Living marks Filicia’s first bedding collection. Believing that “building a bed” is similar to “building a wardrobe,” the designer ensured that each piece was created to coordinate with others in the line.

“The design of this bedding collection is all about taking motifs and designs that we love and enlarging the scale, cleaning up the details and injecting it with a fresh, powerful color palette,” said Filicia. “My inspiration was to fill that void with bedding that is well priced, well made and filled with personality – something accessible and exceptional at the same time.”

Thom Filicia Designs for Living will be available through QVC starting February 16 at QVC.com or 1.800.345.1515, while supplies last.

Second — Whoops, We Mean Third — ‘Queer Eye’ Guy, Thom Filicia, Debuts On QVC Wednesday

February 15, 2011

Another alum from “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy” has landed at QVC.

Design expert Thom Filicia, a gay guy that one of our female friends lusted after, is doing a collection called “Designs for Living” for QVC, which debuts Wednesday.

Thom Filicia

Filicia follows in the footsteps of Carson Kressley, who did a clothing line for QVC called Perfect. (BTW we literally bumped into him once on Park Avenue South).

UPDATE: A reader, Sharon, kindly informed me that “Thom’s actually the THIRD. Kyan was on once with his hair product, “HerCut.” Sharon is referring to Kyan Douglas, who was our gay crush.

As for Filicia, he has designed bedding, rugs and pillows for the No. 1 home shopping network.

“You may have watched Thom Filicia from your living room, but now you can decorate it with his new home collection,” QVC’s website says. “In his line, Thom harmonizes contrasting textures and palettes to create classically simple home décor with an unexpected, modern flair.”

There’s more in QVC’s program guide.

One of House Beautiful’s Top 100 American Designers, a House & Garden International Tastemaker and an EMMY award-winner, Thom Filicia is an accomplished home décor expert who you may recognize from popular shows such as Dress My Nest and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

And now, he comes to QVC with his Designs for Living, where refined details mix with raw edges, industrial plays against organic, and where textures and palettes are used in unexpected yet classic combinations.

Filicia’s fresh yet timeless approach to design can be seen as he infuses color trends and combinations with an updated design that is both beautiful and highly practical in his bedding ensembles and home textiles.

Ex-ShopNBC Host Charla Rhines Is Back, And EmVee TV Has Her

August 10, 2010

Charla Rhines

SHIP BOTTOM, N.J.–Why does so much news break while we’re trying to take a few days off down the shore?

We just got back from a nice dinner at PF Chang’s in Atlantic City, checked our e-mail and Facebook, and saw that former ShopNBC host Charla Rhines Monday confirmed that she’s landed at EmVee TV.

We’d previously reported that she was likely to land there, but Rhines offered this dish Monday.

“Hi ladies and gents! Ya, i’m going back to work this weekend at emvee tv. soooo looking forward to it. they stream live now every sat. and sun. so go to emvee tv.com, or if you have a dish they are on channel 225 direct tv, or channel 224 on dish network. see you all soon! thank you for the kind words”

ShopNBC let tart, mouthy, funny, frank Rhines go earlier this year, releasing an angry torrent of venom from her fans against the No. 3 home shopping channel.

Our blogs on her have gotten more than 100 angry posts from her fans.

Here’s wishing you luck, Charla.

We Promise Not To Call Her An Ex-Jailbird Again, So Can We Interview Martha Stewart About Her HSN Debut?

July 14, 2010

Martha, daughter of Nutley, has HSN given you our interview request yet?

HSN Wednesday released the details of Martha Stewart’s July 19 premiere on the home shopping network.

But we’ve got more important matters on our mind. We’re wondering what’s the status of our interview request with Stewart, who hails from a town we lived in for more than a dozen years: Nutley, N.J.

Maybe a week or so ago we got a general press advisory from HSN’s outside PR firm asking if we would like to interview Stewart. This was after we broke a story about her coming to HSN, and referred to her as “an ex-jailbird” in our headline. That was very childish of us, but it is the truth. But she had paid her debt to society.

Anyway, we put in our interview request back then. Still not a peep from HSN.

The press release Wednesday says that “the business impresario and lifestyle icon will bring her expertise to HSN during a special series of shows showcasing Martha Stewart Crafts products.”

Martha, as the press release refers to her, will also be introducing the Cricut Cake Martha Stewart Crafts Edition, a cake decorating machine that you’ll never see in out kitchen. We haven’t even put our oven on since March, which was to cook a DiGiorno frozen pizza that our cheap date didn’t even want to pay for.

Stewart’s new machine, which is co-branded with Cricut Cake and Martha Stewart Crafts brands and has Martha Stewart-designed cartridges, will launch exclusively on HSN.

“Our Martha Stewart Crafts line is so innovative, that we have decided to partner with HSN to provide consumers with a new set of tools that will forever change the way they craft and create,” the icon herself said in a canned statement. “In addition, our new Martha Stewart Crafts Edition Cricut Cake machine will enable home cooks to transform the things they bake into works of art and wonder. I look forward to July 19 when we will present our unique products on HSN.”

Stewart, who once had a line on QVC, will be joined on-air on HSN will be Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia crafting expert Alex Perruzzi, who will help demonstrate the many creative items being presented throughout the day. Key items from the Martha Stewart Crafts line include the Martha Stewart Crafts Punch and Stamp Kit, Large Circle Cutter, a 24-pk Iridescent Glitter Kit, the Scoreboard Kit, Essential Tool Kit, Essential Glitter Kit, and the Essential Punch Kit.

Following Stewart’s debut in July, HSN will continue to offer customers valuable crafting tips and new innovations from her popular Martha Stewart Crafts line throughout the fall.

“We are thrilled to develop a long-term partnership with a lifestyle icon like Martha Stewart who is an inspiration to fans everywhere,” HSN CEO Mindy Grossman said in her canned statement. “We are confident Martha’s innovative products will resonate with a growing number of HSN customers who look to us as a crafting destination.”

Say What? Journalist/TV Host Joan Lunden Brings Bedding Line To QVC

May 10, 2010

Everyone’s getting into the home-shopping game. The latest one is veteran TV host/journalist Joan Lunden, who is doing a line of bedding for QVC, “Joan Lunden Home,” that debuts this Wednesday.

We’ve already seen promos featuring Lunden and here’s what QVC.com says about its newest vendor.

Popular television host, American journalist and author, Joan Lunden debuts her signature line of bedding on QVC. Retreat from the everyday with versatile bedding essentials to help you create the bedroom you’ve always dreamed of. Channeling her knack for comfort and fashion, Joan Lunden shows you the pieces that make her house a home.

From comforters and sheets to pillows, throws and more, create your personal style with exquisite embellishments and textures both superior in quality and affordability. For easy living and decorating, look no further than the fashionable and coordinated bedding collection of Joan Lunden HOME.

What qualifications or expertise does Lunden have to be designing bedding? None that we can think of. That said, her bedding looked pretty good to us. It was dark, sophisticated, kind of like Calvin Klein does sheets and pillowcases.

But you can judge for yourself by either going to QVC’s website, or tuning in to Lunden’s show at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

We Don’t Bake, And Have A Mortgage, But Maybe You Can Use A $430 ‘Cake Cutter’ From HSN

April 9, 2010

We don't know how it works, but it's expensive

We’re still trying to figure out what the hell it is, and exactly what it does, but HSN will be debuting the Cricut Cake Personal Electronic Cutter April 14. It’s a cake decorating machine, we’re told, that will retail — for $430!

We’re not sure if that will be HSN’s price, but even if there’s a discount, we assume this thing will still be a couple of hundred bucks. Tell you what: We won’t be spending our unemployment check on that.

Here is what HSN saying on its Web site about the item, which will have an online preview April 12.

“From the people who brought you the Gypsy and turned the world of scrapbooking on its head, comes the Cricut Cake Personal Electronic Cutter. Launching exclusively at HSN, this design system is specifically for decorating cakes, cupcakes, cookies and confections – making crafting sweeter than ever!”

Made by Provo Craft, this new device can be used by bakers and crafters. It will launch as HSN’s Today’s Special April 14, and it ain’t cheap.

The HSN-exclusive bundle includes the Cricut Cake, a 12×12 food safe mat, cartridge skirt, cleaning brush, blade cleaning basket, Cake Basics cartridge, the Elegant Cake cartridge as well as icing sheets.

“The bundle will retail for $429.95,” HSN says in its press release, begging the question of what the home shopping network will sell if for.

“We are excited to partner with Provo Craft to introduce Cricut Cake and reinforce our strategy of offering culinary crafters everywhere innovative and unique products,” Nancy Caplan, HSN’s senior vice president of merchandising, said in a canned statement. “Provo Craft represents the quality and innovation that customers have come to expect from HSN and the launch of this exciting new decorating device upholds that tradition.”

The Cricut Cake is an electronic cutter designed to cut gum paste, fondant and other edible materials. Accompanied by the Cricut Cake Basics cartridge, featuring hundreds of images for cake decorating, the Cricut Cake is designed to work with pre-existing Cricut cartridges as well as Provo Craft’s Gypsy and Cricut Design Studio software. It’s good for “all culinary decorating occasions, including birthdays, graduations, weddings and holidays,” we’re told.

The machine is similar in design to the existing Cricut cutting machine; however, specific modifications have been made; stainless steel dials, trim, cutting blade and roller, to make it safe for use with food. Additionally, the keypad features a full silicone cover to protect the screen and allow for easy clean-up.

“Launching new innovations like Cricut Cake on HSN gives us the perfect platform to educate, market and sell our products to a highly engaged consumer,” Provo Craft chief marketing officer Matt Wilburn said in a statement. “Our partnership has been a successful one and we look forward to introducing other exciting products with HSN in the future.”

February 14, 2010

HGTV's Genevieve Gorder is one of three TV home design stars doing home collections for QVC

Why does QVC post press releases on its Web site two days after they are dated? And on a weekend, no less. You tell us.

We check QVC’s Web site “Media” section several times every day, and this press release was not up there until this afternoon today, Valentine’s Day. Note that it is dated Feb. 12. And it’s a good story.

QVC has put together a nice roster of TV home design stars — Tracy Hutson of ABC’s “Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition,” Genevieve Gorder of HGTV’s “Design Star” and “Dear Genevieve,” and nut case Jeff Lewis of Bravo’s “Flipping Out” — to do home collections for it. Those shows will start debuting this week.

We have a cold, and our head feels like it’s going to fall off and our nose is as red as a valentine, so read the release yourself, pretty please. Here it is, verbatim:
