HSN Jewelry Designer Tori Spelling Eats Pizza Just Like Us, But We Prefer Pizza Hut To Domino’s

June 21, 2010

Taurus Tori Spelling and Scorpio hubby Dean McDermott get cuddly

Actress/Oxygen reality TV star Tori Spelling has been pretty scarce on HSN, where she has a fashion jewelry line. Maybe that’s because she has too much cooking.

Spelling made the New York Post’s Page Six Monday, and if the item is true, she is a lot more like you or The Homeshoppingista than one might think.

Seems that Spelling is on tour promoting her new book, “Unchartered Territory.” And 500 fans turned up at the Border’s in Time Warner Center in Manhattan to get their copies signed. Spelling, a fellow Taurus, wouldn ‘t leave until everyone’s book was signed, according to the Post.

So she didn’t get to her own book party at some swanky place we’ve never heard of, Highbar, until midnight. The party had officially ended at 10:30 p.m.

Spelling, who apparently does eat, was famished from all that autographing. So she ordered takeout from Domino’s Pizza, and had it brought in to her party. She then “wolfed down three slices,” Page Six says.

You go girl! We’d rather have Pizza Hutt than Domino’s, but we have been known to have three slices for a meal.

We Taurus girls have very big appetites. Just ask Spelling’s sexy Scorpio spouse, Dean McDermott.

Taurus/Scorpio combo — opposites sides of zodiac, and opposites attract. That is, if they don’t kill each other outside the boudoir.

This Jersey Girl Will Take ‘Jersey Couture’ Over Juicy Couture Any Day

June 1, 2010

The Homeshoppingista was a busy bee Memorial Day weekend, filing stories on actor Jon Seda and the new New Jersey reality show that debuts tonight on Oxygen, “Jersey Couture.”

NewJerseyNewsroom.com posted the story today on the new show.

Last month we got lost, of course (we still haven’t set up our ShopNBC GPS), trying to Diane & Co., the shop on Route 9 in Freehold, N.J., that’s owned by the Scali family. The shop is unassuming, just a small storefront, and we drove by it. But the Scalis run a huge women’s formalwear business, and that’s the subject of “Jersey Couture.”

The Homeshoppingista flanked by Kimberly Gambale on the left, and Diane and Christina Scali on the right, at the Freehold store, with son Anthony and father Sal standing behind

The store may look small from the front, but it’s deep, wirh 5,000 square feet of space. The place has several thousand dresses, in plastic garment bags, hung on its walls. We can’t figure out how the Scalis knew how to find exactly what dress they are looking for among all those frocks.

Family matriarch Diane Scali, deeply tanned and with a sparkly necklace on, was very outspoken and funny. She comes across a bit harsh, a bit abrasive, on the first episode of the show, but she’s not like that in person. She’s very warm and fun.

Diane & Co. in Freehold does its magic

Her daughters Kimberly Gambale and Christina Scali, both pretty long-haired brunettes, were down to earth and just couldn’t hide their passion for their work. It may sound hokey, but they really believe it’s their important mission to find the dress that will make a woman or girl feel her best during a key event, like her daughter’s wedding, the prom or a Sweet 16 party.

When we were there, the Scali ladies transformed a young girl in jeans into a gorgeous princess with a yellow dress with a skirt like a ballerina’s tutu. The teen was just beaming when she saw how pretty she looked.

We also got nosey and asked “Chrissy,” Christina, if she was still going out with the Spanish guy she mentions in Episode One. She said no. We know that feeling, girlfriend.

Some people are complaining that enough is enough with the glut of Jersey reality shows, but tune in to “Jersey Couture” tonight at 10 p.m. to make up your own mind.

Will Tori Spelling Be The New Oprah? She Has A Daytime Talk Show In the Works

April 21, 2010

My mother and sister are big fans of actress/HSN vendor Tori Spelling, and we were talking about her over lunch Tuesday. Spelling was just back on HSN last week.

My mom was saying that Oxygen had just run a day-long marathon of Spelling’s reality show, “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood,” and what a great interior designer the thin blonde is. Mom also talked about how emotional Spelling is, often bursting into tears.

During the course of this conversation, we was wondering how “Beverly Hills 90201” alum has the time to do all she does, namely creating fashion jewelry for HSN, doing a reality show, decorating and furnishing a home, writing books, acting, and raising kids.

Now less than 24 hours later, we hear that Spelling, the daughter of the late TV producer Aaron Spelling, is looking for yet another gig: a daytime talk show for ABC.

The Los Angeles Times broke the news and reports Wednesday that the show would pair Spelling with a male co-host. Spelling’s show would angle to be a replacement for the slot left open when Oprah Winfrey’s syndicated program goes off the air next fall.

Let’s see what happens.

Oxygen Jumps On the Jersey Reality-TV Bandwagon, In The Wake Of ‘Real Housewives Of New Jersey’ and ‘Jersey Shore,’ With ‘Jersey Couture’ Show

January 11, 2010

Oxygen's potential show Jersey Couture is about a Freehold, N.J., women's formalwear boutique that sells dress like this.

Well, we’ll be damned. Jersey girls rule on reality TV.

Our beloved Garden State, the new mecca for reality-TV producers, will be the site of yet another “docu-soap.” This one, in development by the women’s network Oxygen, has a working title of “Jersey Couture,” echoing the name of that overpriced brand for tween and teen girls, Juicy Couture.

The show was announced Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, a shindig we attended last year, just two weeks before we were abuptly laid off. NewJerseyNewsroom.com just posted our story on “Jersey Couture.”

From what we understand, “Jersey Couture” is about an upscale Freehold, N.J., women’s formalwear shop, Diane & Co. It is owned by Diane Scali and her family.

“From canary yellow beaded sheaths to gold lamé, the Scali family offers over-the-top dresses to satisfy every girl’s special event needs,” Oxygen said in a press release.

New Jersey, once the butt of jokes, is now the new hot spot for reality-TV shows that in many cases play on stereotypes the rest of America has about us. We’ve had Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” TLC’s “Cake Boss” and “18 Kids and Counting,” and Style Network’s “Jerseylicious,” which debuts in March.

We wrote about this new trend in Jersey-set programming for NewJerseyNewsroom.com, where experts told us that TV producers believe that the Garden State’s “loud and proud” residents are perfect for reality-TV shows.

Before Oxygen's Jersey Couture will be Style Network's Jerseylicious, which is about the women of the Gatsby Salon in Green Brook, N.J. You go Jersey girls!

“Jerseylicious” is about the women who run the Gatsby Salon in Green Brook, N.J. We visited the place during one of the last weeks it was shooting in December, and filed a package of stories for NewJerseyNewsroom.com.

As for “Jersey Couture,” here’s the sketchy info that Oxygen has provided.

“With a no nonsense attitude, the Scali family’s extravagant dress store is the premiere glamour stop in New Jersey,” Oxygen said in its TCA press release. “Get ready for the Cinderella experience of a lifetime. Whether it’s for her bride’s maid’s needs or her high school prom frills, when it comes to ‘what to wear’ to that elegant affair, no one gets the job done like the ladies at Diane & Co.”

Remember that “Jersey Couture” is just in development, which means Oxygen has not committed yet to pick it up as a series.

After October No-Show, Actress Tori Spelling Scheduled To Return To HSN Jan. 11 WIth Her Jewelry Line

January 1, 2010

After abruptly cancelling an appearance in October, actress Tori Spelling is slated to be back at HSN selling her fashion jewelry line Jan. 11.

Spelling, always a favorite subject of gossip in the tabloids, was no where to be seen earlier this year when she had several shows scheduled on HSN. During that period, the tabloids were having a field day talking about how skinny Spelling was, and the buzz was that she had been hospitalized.

Spelling, who has the reality show “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” on Oxygen, has been back on the gossip pages in recent weeks with news that she had mended fences with her mother, Candy Spelling, after a long feud.

Anyway, Spelling is very charming and fun to watch, so we’re glad she is due back on HSN. We can’t be snarky about her. We like her.

‘Idol’ Paula Abdul Is Back On HSN, But What’s Up With Actress And Tabloid Star Tori Spelling?

December 13, 2009

Singer and “Amercian Idol” alum Paula Abdul is back on HSN this weekend after her visit in October was abruptly canceled, but what’s happening with Tori Spelling?

Spelling is apparently not listed for any appearances in December on the home shopping network, where her fashion jewelry collection is sold.

Both Abdul and Spelling were scheduled to appear on HSN the same weekend in mid-October, but their appearances were both scotched. HSN viewers who called customer service to find out what happened to the two stars weren’t given an explanation of the cancellations.

Now, two months later, Abdul is finally back on HSN this weekend with her “Forever Your Girl” jewelry line. But there’s no word on when Spelling will return.

At the time Spelling was absent, the tabloids were having a field day reporting that she was under 100 pounds and had been hospitalized.

The blonde, who is very gracious and down-to-earth on the air, has a reality show with her husband Dean McDermott on Oxygen, “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.”

Paula Abdul Set To Return To HSN Dec. 12 and 13 After October Cancellation, No Word About When No-Show Tori Spelling Will Be Back

December 1, 2009

Paula Abdul HSN ring

Two months after her last appearance on HSN was cancelled without explanation, former “American Idol” host Paula Abdul is returning.

Abdul is scheduled to appear on HSN Dec. 12 and 13 to sell her Forever Your Girl line of fashion jewelry, which is marking its first anniversary.

Back in October, Columbus Day weekend, the singer was listed in HSN’s online and print program guides to do jewelry shows for two days. But she never appeared.

Around that same time, actress Tori Spelling was also scheduled to be on HSN for her costume jewelry line, and those shows were also pulled without explanation. Curious and disappointed viewers were speculating that the no-show was due to Spellings ill health or her rumored marital woes.

So far we did not see Spelling listed for any return to HSN.

Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott are the star’s of Oxygen’s reality show, ‘Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.”
