QVC Horns In On The Oscar’s Red-Carpet Glitz In LA Another Year

February 23, 2011

QVC will be back in Cali this weekend for the second year in a row to ride the red-carpet coattails of the Oscars.

Claiming that it got “impressive viewership” with its first such broadcast, “Buzz on the Red Carpet – Live from LA” will, or so the press release says, QVC “once again take viewers behind-the-scenes with exclusive content from top fashion designers, beauty newsmakers, celebrities and more.”

There will be two live broadcasts, this Friday at 9 p.m. (ET) and Saturday at 8 p.m. (ET).

During the shindig at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, “Gossip Girl” actress Kelly Rutherford will finally debut her luxury handbag line during the Saturday broadcast.

“Much like New York during Fashion Week, there is no place like Los Angeles during awards season,” QVC U.S. CEO Claire Watts said in a canned statement. “’The Buzz’ on the Red Carpet broadcast aims to offer engaging programming that takes our viewers where they want to go. With our lineup of personalities and industry experts, we feel confident that this season will be full of excitement for our customers.”

Fashion designers including Isaac Mizrahi, Dennis Basso and Marc Bouwer are scheduled to appear during the broadcasts along with Lori Goldstein, the Kardashians and Melania Trump.

Actor Matthew McConaughy’s girlfriend (and mother of his child) Camila Alves and costume designer Janie Bryant, of “Mad Men,” will also present their latest collections. They will join some of the best in the beauty business including Kate Somerville, Josie Maran, Laura Geller, Smashbox and Tarte, among others, will be on hand.

QVC.com will host a special online preview of the event now through Friday.

‘Gossip Girl’ Kelly Rutherford’s Handbags Debuting On QVC Feb. 25

January 21, 2011

Claire Watts

QVC’s PR department finally got back to us Thursday about “Gossip Girl” Kelly Rutherford’s new handbag line for the No. 1 home shopping network.

QVC said that Rutherford will be launching a line of handbags for QVC during its “The Buzz on the Red Carpet – Live from L.A.” programming Feb. 25. But there was no additional information available, according to the network.

We also finally got a photo of Claire Watts, who was just promoted to the new position of president of QVC U.S. Here she is.

Not-So-Natty ‘Gossip Girl’ Kelly Rutherford Hawks Her New QVC Handbag Line On ‘Wendy Williams’

January 20, 2011

It was news to us, but “Gossip Girl” actress Kelly Rutherford is doing a handbag line for QVC, joining the army of celebrities selling products on home shopping networks.

At least that’s what we learned over our morning coffee Thursday when we opened up the Daily News and saw a photo of Rutherford on the gossip page, appropriately enough. The shot showed Rutherford, in jeans and winter coat, walking on a snowy Manhattan street.

The caption said that Rutherford was heading to “The Wendy Williams Show” to “hawk” her new QVC handbag line.

We did not see the show yesterday, but “The Wendy Williams Show” website had a blurb that said “‘Gossip Girl’ star Kelly Rutherford tells us about all the drama going down this season and shows off her new purse line on QVC. Be there.”

Sorry we weren’t there.

Anyway, Rutherford do not look very dolled up in the Daily News photo, and apparently she didn’t stop by into hair-and-makeup before going on-air to chat with Williams. Rutherford’s hair was in a messy bun, she didn’t appear to have makeup on and she was dressed in a raggy cardigan and jeans.

One viewer, Shanelle, complained about Rutherford’s apperance on the show’s website.

“u liked kelly’s look but i hated it. i found it a little rude. she looked like she just woke up and rolled out of bed and came to your show. she couldve fixed herself up a little bit. i thought her look was tired and cheap looking. and she had the nerve to push her handbag line?? she clearly does not know fashion and i wont be purchasing her bags. bottom line, as a woman, she should know better than to go on tv like that. period.”

We’d have to agree with Shanelle on that one.

Williams, a fellow Montclair, N.J., resident, also got Rutherford to dish about her nasty divorce and custody battle.

We have a call into QVC’s crack PR department to find out more about Rutherford’s line. But we’re holding our breath. We’re still waiting for the photo of the new chief of QVC’s domestic network, Claire Watts, that we requested yesterday.

InStyle Magazine Says Upscale Jewelry Designer Stephen Dweck Has Second Lower-Priced Line In Works, In Addition To QVC’s Dweck Diamonds

October 30, 2009

It looks like “rock star” jewelry designer Stephen Dweck isn’t just doing a lower-priced line for QVC. He has a second affordable jewelry line in the works for retail.

Dweck, whose upscale pieces are sold in Neiman Marcus, next month will debut a jewelry line called Garden of Stephen in Bloomingdale’s, according to the November issue of InStyle magazine. This week Dweck debuted another lower-priced line, Dweck Diamonds, on QVC.

In a story headlined “Rock Star,” InStyle notes that celebrities such as Beyonce and Blake Lively of “Gossip Girl” all wear Dweck’s upscale jewelry, which is chunky and loaded with huge semiprecious gems. Actresses Salma Hayek and Catherine Zeta-Jones rocked (get it) Dweck’s jewelry when they were cover girls for InStyle.

Dweck’s Garden of Stephen jewelry is totally different from the work he has done for QVC, and both lower-priced lines are nothing like his higher-end pieces. The jewelry that will be sold in Bloomie’s includes gold-plated chains with semi-precious charms and scarab rings. They are in the $235 to $345 price range.

QVC’s Dweck Diamonds pieces were inspired by nature. They have an organic feel, with designs that incorporate flowers and twig-like branches. Some of the jewelry had tiny buds, sprinkled with diamonds. The most expensive QVC piece was a $604 necklace, which sold out.

Jewelry Designer Carol Brodie’s Line for HSN Priced For Those With ‘Gossip Girl’ Budget

October 17, 2009

Sorry Carol Brodie, $800 for a 10 carat gold ring with a semi-precious stone is too much, despite whatever celebrity clientele you have.

Jewelry designer Brodie, formerly of Harry Winston and now selling a line called Rarities on HSN, was on the network Saturday.

She has gorgeous pieces, at movie-star prices. For example, a crown ring in her line wasn’t even 14 carat gold, with just a big chunk of chalcedony. That honker was $800. There was also a bracelet that was more than $1,000.

Brodie mentioned that “Gossip Girl” actress Michelle Trachtenberg was recently seen running around Manhattan wearing green jade earrings and a matching ring that she was selling on HSN.  They were $230 and $360.

Brodie’s pieces were selling out, but we know jewelry, and they are overpriced. But she has her devoted fans.

“You are the best jewelry customers in the world,” Brodie told viewers.

When we hit the lottery, or find that full-time job we’re looking for, we’ll take another look.
