HSN To Launch ‘Hollywood Golden Age’ Jewelry Line In Partnership With Universal Pictures Thursday

May 9, 2012

Now we’re talking: Some news about a new jewelry collection on HSN.

On Wednesday HSN announced that it has partnered with Universal Pictures to launch an exclusive collection of fashion jewelry inspired by some of Universal’s most iconic films. It debuts tomorrow, May 10.

“In celebration of the studio’s centennial anniversary, The Universal Vault Jewelry Collection — consisting of necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings and pins — is designed to bring to life the romance, adventure and prestige of the past 100 years in film,” HSN said in its press release.

In 2012, Universal will be restoring and re-releasing 13 of its most well-known films.

“Films have influenced fashion trends for decades,” John Bosco, HSN’s senior vice president of apparel, accessories and jewelry, said in a canned statement. “Having access to Universal Pictures’ rich heritage of iconic films has given us an amazing opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind collection of timeless designs that celebrate the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.”

The Universal Vault Collection is inspired by Universal Pictures’ archives and the debut, themed after the “Glamorous Women of Hollywood,” with new themes and designs being added throughout the year based upon additional films.

The debut collection will feature more than 40 unique pieces ranging in price from $22.95 for a pair of button pearl earrings with a pave frame to $199.95 for a canary-and-clear pear-shaped drop necklace.

Other collection highlights include a regal emerald necklace, an aqua-and-jonquil burst ring and multicolored cluster earrings with pearl accents.

The collection is both glamorous and fashionable, pulling inspiration from Universal’s classic films such as ‘Pillow Talk,’ ‘Female on the Beach,’ ‘Lover Come Back,’ ‘Madame X’ and other iconic films that starred legendary actresses including Joan Crawford, Doris Day and Lana Turner.

“Universal’s library proudly houses some of the most iconic moments in film history, brought to life by the most stunning stars of the past 100 years,” said Stephanie Sperber, President of Universal Partnerships & Licensing. “Through The Universal Vault Collection, HSN continues to bring our classic titles to life with the same detail and care that we put into restoring our films for generations to come.”

The Universal Vault Collection will launch across all of HSN’s multiple platforms including television, online and HSN Mobile on May 10, at 2 a.m. and 10 p.m. Hollywood costume designer Debra McGuire will appear on HSN to showcase the collection.

HSN Partners With Universal Pictures On ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Flick For Super Duper Marketing Mash

March 28, 2012

In another one of its movie-marketing mashes, HSN is teaming up with Universal Pictures for a gigantor promotion tied to the movie “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

This cataclysmic 24-hour HSN event will take place May 30, across all of HSN’s platforms, including TV, HSN.com and HSN mobile.

“Snow White and the Huntsman,” starring Kristen Stewart, Oscar winner Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, opens nationwide June 1.

“With the release of the ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’-inspired collection, HSN continues to reinvent and re-energize retail by allowing consumers the opportunity to experience the film and engage in a flight of fantasy in a personal way — via bold and imaginative HSN products customized for ‘her,'” HSN said in its a bit over-the-top press release. “Top HSN designers will bring the movie to life with a curated assortment of exclusive products reflecting the spirit of the film.”

One of our favs, Bill Brand, HSN’s head honcho of programming, marketing and business development, offered this quote for the occasion.

“HSN has evolved into an entertainment channel that goes beyond providing a platform for commerce,” Brand stated. “At our core we are storytellers and entertain our customers with engaging content and unique retail experiences. The partnership with Universal Pictures for ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ plays a key role in elevating awareness and relevance for the HSN brand. It is an important component to our entertainment strategy.”

This event will include exclusive collections that were directly inspired by the film.

“HSN’s creative directors were given a once-in-a-lifetime look behind the scenes that awed and inspired,” HSN said in its press release. “High-end jewelry, fashions and home accessories including exclusive pieces from Hutton Wilkinson, Loree Rodkin, and Heidi Daus, will be available for sale. Designers Ranjana Khan, Adrienne Landau, and numerous others will also have styles that highlight the film’s iconic costumes playing into the overarching movie theme of beauty and power.”

Stephanie Sperber, president of Universal Partnerships and Licensing, added her two cents into the mix.

“HSN is the perfect partner to bring the look and feel of ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’ to life through fashion and lifestyle items inspired by the film,” Sperber said. “We know this 24-hour event featuring unique clothing, jewelry and accessories alongside Snow White and the Huntsman footage will build anticipation for the film’s opening on June 1.”

Here’s the boiler plate about “Snow White and the Huntsman”:

In the epic action-adventure ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ producer Sam Mercer (‘The Sixth Sense’) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

You Can’t Make This Up: Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey And Sandra Bullock Will Star In Film About A Home Shopping Network

October 24, 2010

At first we thought someone was pulling our leg, but it’s true. Sandra Bullock, fellow New Jersey native Meryl Streep (Bernardsville) and Oprah Winfrey are doing a movie set at a home shopping network for Universal Pictures!

Universal put out a press release on the project Friday and, dig this, it will be directed by Michael Patrick King, the mastermind behind “Sex and the City.”

The Hollywood trade press, including Variety and Deadline Hollywood, as well as the consumer press, Entertainment Weekly, all wrote stories about the yet-untitled film.

Jersey Girl Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock warm up for their roles in a new movie set at a home shopping network

Variety said that the comedy will be “set around a home-shopping TV channel.” According to Universal’s statement, the dynamic trio will “make their way through the maze of mania that surrounds marketing, marriages and the media.”

The script is supposed to be ready in January.

Of course, EW’s PopWatch had to make some snide remarks about home shopping channels, circa 1980.

“Today came the announcement via Universal that Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep, and Oprah Winfrey would all co-star in Michael Patrick King’s untitled project about a home-shopping channel,” PopWatch wrote.

“Wait a tick — you’re telling me I can get Hollywood’s three wisest women for one easy payment of $12?! (Or, $17, if King decides to go the 3-D route.) Can they come with a bonus Slap Chop too?”

That’s a real knee slapper, you moron. Never mind that even stars like Madonna, Mary J. Blige and Sheryl Crow have appeared on home shopping channels.

But PopWatch ultimately gave the film its due.

“In all seriousness, this is some pretty awesome casting news, even if we have barely any idea of what exactly happens in the film. (But if the plotline is anywhere near as entertaining as the one in the Magic Bullet infomercial, count me in.),” it wrote.

“With these three powerhouses on board, I’m wondering where King can go from here — should he just go ahead and Ocean’s 11 this joint by adding the likes of Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, and Tina Fey (who’s already co-starring with Streep elsewhere) to the cast too?” PopWatch said. “Who else should come on board? Will Bullock and Streep face-off for Oscar again?”

We first learned of this film when HSN super host Colleen Lopez mentioned it on Facebook, after someone posted the PopWatch story.

“Wow!! I had not heard about this, Kalli,” Colleen wrote “How cool! Now it will be fun to see who their different characters will be ‘based’ on or ‘inspired by’….fun stuff! Thanks for sharing ♥”

We wonder if one of those characters will be a curly-haired, wise-cracking brunette with a Jersey accent who writes a superb blog about home shopping.

Universal and King, we are available.
