HSN Jewelry Maven Heidi Daus Expands in Montclair, N.J.

November 26, 2018

A year ago we were working at a scrappy start-up print paper, Montclair Local, in the town where we live in New Jersey. And during that one-year tenure we had to cover many a long and boring meeting. The Zoning Board of Adjustment meetings were often especially grueling.

But we would have been really jazzed to cover the recent zoning board meeting regarding HSN jewelry vendor Heidi Daus.  She lives and works in Montclair, and we even ran into her once at the local QuickChek. Her husband, Mitchell MacGregor, owns a construction company.

MacGregor appeared before the board seeking a variance to expand the property on Forest Street in Montclair where Daus has offices and storage space for her fashion jewelry business.

According to the website Baristanet, MacGregor was seeking permission to build a dormer on the Heidi Daus HQ, an 850-square-foot expansion of the 5,643-square-foot property.

MacGregor told the board that the site acts as a showroom and a spot where the jewelry designs are created, Baristanet reported. The jewelry itself is manufactured in China, not Montclair.

MacGregor and Daus got their variances. They were represented by Montclair attorney Alan Trembulak, who we always enjoyed working with.

Coffee With HSN’s Heidi Daus In Montclair

May 4, 2017

For those who don’t read our Facebook page, wanted you to know that we ran into HSN jewelry vendor Heidi Daus at the Montclair Quick Chek Wednesday morning when we were getting our coffee.

We knew that she lived in our North Jersey town, but had never seen her.

She was very gracious and lovely, and said she has a TS coming up later this month!

HSN Vendor Heidi Daus And ‘Montclair Blue’

June 7, 2016

A belated shout-out to HSN jewelry vendor Heidi Daus for her shout-out to our hometown, Montclair, N.J.

During the network’s three-day “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” Daus mentioned Montclair.

She was talking about her $220 “American Icon” crystal-swag necklace with pretty blue stones. Daus described about working in a local store, in Montclair, as part of a college internship.

“I live in a town called Montclair, and its’ a very ,very lovely suburb of New York,” Daus said. “A very lovely wealthy town.”

We are not among the rich residents, by the way.

At the store, she said, “My boss would call this Montclair blue … If it was that color he would buy it and bring it into the store because he knew the ladies would love it … It looks well on everybody.”

We’ve only recently become bigger fans of the color blue, and maybe we’ll have to try Montclair blue.

‘Looking Glass’ Collection Debuts On

May 17, 2016

Just a quick heads-up that HSN has posted some of its “Alice Through the Looking Glass” merchandise online.

Needless to say, we went straight to the jewelry selection. There are some spectacular, and very pricey pieces, from fellow Montclair resident Heidi Daus.

One of her elaborate neck pieces is about $1,000. In addition to the huge necklaces, there is a wide selection of brooches based on characters in the Disney film.

Daus had posted a photo of one of the pins, the Mad Hatter’s hat, on Facebook, and someone asked how much it cost. FYI: It is about $160.

Among her items, we’re partial to a cascading multi-strand pearl necklaces that’s $400.

One of our favorite sterling silver jewelry makers, King Baby, has also done some of its trademark weighty pieces for the collection. Sweet.

HSN Debuts Jewelry Inspired By ‘Crimson Peak’ Film

October 14, 2015

HSN kicked off another one of its movie extravaganza co-promotions on Tuesday, with this one a partnership for the new gothic romance “Crimson Peak.”

This time the home shopping network has hooked up with Legendary and Universal Pictures to offer jewelry inspired by the new flock from HSN’s stable of vendors.

There will also be presentations of “Crimson Peak” baubles today, Wednesday. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro and the cast includes “Sons of Anarchy” hunk Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain.

“Storytelling is the foundation of all that we do at HSN and we are excited to share the story of Crimson Peak with our millions of customers through engaging product experiences,” our buddy, HSN President Bill Brand, said in a canned statement.

“Our designers have created an assortment of jewelry that is absolutely stunning. These beautiful, dramatic pieces reflect each designer’s individual style while capturing the essence of the film.”

Heidi Daus, Carol Brodie, Roberto Faraone, Akkad and Amedeo Scognamiglio are doing the pieces for HSN.

Here is info from HSN’s press release:

Exquisite pearls, black onyx, fine gemstones, diamonds and beautifully-crafted cameos are just a part of the expansive movie-based collection that can be found exclusively at HSN.

With pieces ranging in price from $49.95 for a stunning Roberto by RFM Flower Pin to $1,900 for elegant White Diamond and Ruby Tassel Drop Earrings from Rarities: Fine Jewelry with Carol Brodie, there is something for every woman to enjoy.

HSN viewers will get a glimpse of the movie during the network’s two-day primetime event.

HSN Hops On Cinderella’s Coach

March 13, 2015

It’s a marketer’s dream: HSN is getting a ton of national press for its tie-in with Disney’s new release, “Cinderella.”

The Washington Post added to Bill Brand’s press clippings this week with a story headlined, “What $4,595 ‘glass slippers” say about Disney’s princess sales machine.”

HSN host Bobbi Ray Carter and Bill Green meet Prince Charming, Richard Madden of "Games of Thrones" fame

No, those shoes aren’t being sold by HSN. The story is referring to the pricey glass slipper that upscale shoe line Jimmy Choo did for the movie.

But HSN’s flock of Cinderella offerings include a $600 “I Have Arrived” crystal necklace and a $200 “Enchanted Castle” pin, both by Heidi Daus. And model Coco Rocha is doing apparel as part of the collection.

The Post article discussed how much of the Cinderella-related merchandise is aimed at women, not kids.

HSN is prominently featured in the story, with a quote by an HSN spokeswoman.

“Our target consumer is female, age 35 to 55, which is what Disney was looking for,” said Gigi Ganatra Duff, a spokeswoman for HSN, which plans to run a 24-hour live event and two prime-time specials to promote its “Cinderella” collection. “Our girl is sophisticated; she’s fashionable. She doesn’t want it to scream ‘Cinderella.’ She wants it to scream the essence of ‘Cinderella’: Fairy tale, dreamy, beautiful.”

Even hop MAC makeup jumped on the bandwagon, and its Cinderella-themed makeup has already sold out, or so our sister Karen told us. She and my niece couldn’t find it in stock in retail or online.

HSN has done a number of movie tie-ins, but it looks like this one may prove one of its most successful.

HSN hosts such as Bill Green plastered Facebook with photos of the home shopping network’s posse at the LA premiere of the film, rubbing shoulders with the flick’s star.

HSN’s Heidi Daus Does Dragons For ‘Maleficent’

May 26, 2014

Yesterday the New York Daily News did a two-page spread called “Getting Into Character” in its style section. It was a pictorial of clothes, jewelry and other accessories inspired by movie, cartoon and comic book characters.

HSN got a shout-out because the layout had a photo of a Heidi Daus “Maleficent Dragon” necklace based on the movie, which comes out this week and stars Angelina Jolie.

(FYI for the rockhounds out there: We read that the movie’s creators had contact lens designed for Jolie that would mirror the shimmering hues of labradorite — its yellows, greens and blues.)

We looked up the necklace on, and its price is now $330. Its official name is “Alluring Interlude.” Daus, of course, is fellow resident of Montclair, N.J.

Heidi Daus “Alluring Interlude” 3-Row Simulated Pearl Crystal Dragon-Designed Drop Necklace

Take a break from reality. This fantastical drop necklace looks like it came right out of a fairytale. Reminiscent of the costumes from Disney’s Maleficent, this crystal-covered design is wickedly glamorous.

Here’s the description:

Three rows of individually knotted, gray glass simulated pearls
Bold, flying dragon-designed drop covered in pavé-set, round multicolor crystals
Bezel-set pear and marquise-cut crystal accents
Textured metalwork scales
Tail extends upwards
Gray simulated pearl charm dangles at the bottom under a pavé crystal-encrusted 2-tiered cap
Rectangular end bars lined with pavé-set round crystals

Crystal Information
This piece contains Montana-, vintage rose-, smoked topaz-, cyclamen opal- and metallic blue-color crystals

HSN Jewelry Queen Heidi Daus, Husband Step Out

March 11, 2013

HSN jewelry queen Heidi Daus, a fellow Montclair, N.J., resident, is one of the most charming and classy vendors on the home shopping channel. And her jewelry is gorgeous, as well

Last week HSN apparently held a big shindig for its “family,” where Daus was honored.

“Thank you HSN for bestowing the ‘Curator of the year’ upon me at the HSN partnership gala last night!” Daus posted on Facebook. “I am humbled and proud to be a part of the HSN team!”

She also posted a photo of her in a slinky cocktail dress with a guy we can only assume is her husband, Montclair builder Mitchell MacGregor. Swank duo.

“Hot couple,” someone posted.

Someone else, apparently one of Daus’s crew, said that Daus was wearing a custom creation made in her studio.

The sparkly dress had a fur collar, and Daus was wearing a stunning necklace — which we assume is from her own line. Several people asked Daus about it on Facebook.

Anyway, congrats Heidi!

HSN Partners With Universal Pictures On ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Flick For Super Duper Marketing Mash

March 28, 2012

In another one of its movie-marketing mashes, HSN is teaming up with Universal Pictures for a gigantor promotion tied to the movie “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

This cataclysmic 24-hour HSN event will take place May 30, across all of HSN’s platforms, including TV, and HSN mobile.

“Snow White and the Huntsman,” starring Kristen Stewart, Oscar winner Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, opens nationwide June 1.

“With the release of the ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’-inspired collection, HSN continues to reinvent and re-energize retail by allowing consumers the opportunity to experience the film and engage in a flight of fantasy in a personal way — via bold and imaginative HSN products customized for ‘her,'” HSN said in its a bit over-the-top press release. “Top HSN designers will bring the movie to life with a curated assortment of exclusive products reflecting the spirit of the film.”

One of our favs, Bill Brand, HSN’s head honcho of programming, marketing and business development, offered this quote for the occasion.

“HSN has evolved into an entertainment channel that goes beyond providing a platform for commerce,” Brand stated. “At our core we are storytellers and entertain our customers with engaging content and unique retail experiences. The partnership with Universal Pictures for ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ plays a key role in elevating awareness and relevance for the HSN brand. It is an important component to our entertainment strategy.”

This event will include exclusive collections that were directly inspired by the film.

“HSN’s creative directors were given a once-in-a-lifetime look behind the scenes that awed and inspired,” HSN said in its press release. “High-end jewelry, fashions and home accessories including exclusive pieces from Hutton Wilkinson, Loree Rodkin, and Heidi Daus, will be available for sale. Designers Ranjana Khan, Adrienne Landau, and numerous others will also have styles that highlight the film’s iconic costumes playing into the overarching movie theme of beauty and power.”

Stephanie Sperber, president of Universal Partnerships and Licensing, added her two cents into the mix.

“HSN is the perfect partner to bring the look and feel of ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’ to life through fashion and lifestyle items inspired by the film,” Sperber said. “We know this 24-hour event featuring unique clothing, jewelry and accessories alongside Snow White and the Huntsman footage will build anticipation for the film’s opening on June 1.”

Here’s the boiler plate about “Snow White and the Huntsman”:

In the epic action-adventure ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ producer Sam Mercer (‘The Sixth Sense’) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

October 8, 2011

HSN costume jewelry queen Heidi Daus is one of our fellow Montclair, N.J., residents. But we’ve never run into her or saw anything about her in town.

If will take place at the lovely Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange.

Daus is decorating co-chair for the gala. Where are sure the decor will be lovely.
