Kirks Folly, Marianna Jacobs, Somers and Brand

September 18, 2017

We’re behind on our blogging, been busy at work, but here are some tidbits and observations.

Kirks Folly will be bringing its whimsical fairy dust, jewelry and home décor back to QVC on Sept. 29. The line, which beacons the angels among us, is either the silliest thing you have ever seen or something you fanatically love. Jenniefer Kirk posted on Facebook about her return.

Back in the day Jenniefer and then-QVC host Judy Crowell would get dressed up in elaborate outfits, and sell Kirks Folly from an elaborate set. Don’t know if we’ll be seeing that again.

Sterling silver designer Marianna Jacobs and her husband Richard have been on several home shopping networks selling their handmade jewelry. Most recently they did a stint on Evine before joining HSN.

Marianna was on HSN host Colleen Lopez’s “Designer Gallery” show on Sunday with her Travelers’ Journey line and it looked like she had a makeover. She was totally glam – blown-out hair, tailored attire, totally different that her former free hair, casual hippy kind of look. And her husband Richard isn’t mentioned, as far as we could tell. They used to appear on-air together. What’s up?

We briefly saw Suzanne Somers – who sent from HSN to Evine to QVC — recently with QVC host Rick Domeir. We thought she looked good as she touted her new book, which in part touts her long-term marriage. Our mom thought Somers looked terrible. We will tell you what was terrible: The way Domeir was fawning over her.

By now we all know that HSN, in advance of Hurricane Irma, let its employees go off the safety and packed up a crew to televise from makeshift studios in Nashville, Tenn. We have seen a promo several times now where our buddy Bill Brand, HSN’s president, thanked viewers for their good wished and prayers. With Mindy Grossman’s exit to join Oprah Winfrey’s Weight Watchers leaving a vacuum at the top at HSN, Brand may be her replacement.

Daisy Fuentes Brings Apparel To HSN

September 21, 2016

Has Daisy Fuentes been on HSN before?

Maybe this just went over our heads, but we don’t remember the Latina celebrity ever doing an apparel line for the No. 2 home shopping network. We knew she had a line for Kohl’s.

In any event, Fuentes will be on HSN Thursday night with Colleen Lopez to hawk her clothing collection.

HSN Host Kathy Wolf Leaving The Network

June 30, 2016

There’s more turnover in the home shopping world, with veteran HSN host Kathy Wolf flying the coop!

We got a heads-up from a reader that Colleen Lopez had spilled the beans about classy Wolf, who we really like, exiting the No. 2 home shopping channel.

“Today I am toasting my beautiful friend and HSN Host Kathy Wolf on HSN!” Lopez posted on Facebook on Wednesday. “I still can’t believe tomorrow will be Kathy’s last day as an HSN Host. When I came to HSN 22 years ago Kathy was my very first friend – I will never forget the first time I met Kathy – her huge smile, warm heart and easy laugh made me feel welcome In my new ‘home'”

There was a photo of Lopez and Wolf lifting their cocktail glasses.

We checked Wolf’s Facebook page and didn’t see any word about her leaving HSN.

According to Lopez, we will be seeing Wolf “on TV again in the future.”

Do tell.

HSN.com still has Wolf listed as a host. It says that she joined HSN in 1992, and that she describes herself as a total soccer mom. Her hobby is “laughing.”

HSN Vendor Antthony Mark Hankins Injures Leg

January 21, 2016

Is HSN jinxed?

First, HSN host Colleen Lopez tripped over her dog and fractured her elbow recently.

Now one of the home shopping network’s vendors, fashion designer Antthony Mark Hankins (from Elizabeth, N.J.), just posted a photo of himself on crutches in a hospital room on Facebook.

“My newest fashion accessory: ‘crutches,'” he wrote.

He didn’t explain what happened, but his right foot or leg was injured.

Get well!

HSN Host Colleen Lopez Fractures Elbow, Trips On Sophie

January 15, 2016

We broke our ankle a year ago, and HSN host Colleen Lopez has had a similar mishap.

On Facebook Lopez posted on Thursday that she had suffered a fractured elbow. She tripped over her pooch.

“Yep, this happened,” she wrote. “I spent the past couple days making new friends in the emergency room and at the Orthopedic Surgeon’s office. It’s always something.”

HSN host Colleen Lopez is on the mend.

She then posted a photo of her arm in a stylish sling with a graphic black and white print.

Lopez also posted a photo of “the culprit,” her Yorkie Sophie.

“I tripped and fell over Sophie the other day when I arrived home from work (no kidding),” Lopez wrote.

“She loves to run under our feet and I was trying not to step on her and just fell right on my elbow! I read that 250 people each day in the US end up in the ER from an injury tripping/falling over their pets! Sophie has made up for it with lots of extra kisses. If you have pets that play underfoot – be careful!!!”

We wish Colleen a quick recovery.

August 6, 2015

We thought we had reported this, but couldn’t find the blog. In any event, comic actress Melissa McCarthy is the latest celeb to come to the home shopping world.

The pieces are already online, and we kind of liked them, especially the choice of jeans and pants. The line offers Missy to Plus sizes.

McCarthy to Make Her HSN Debut as Part of The Fashion Edit, HSN’s Fall Fashion Series

HSN is the Exclusive National Retailer Carrying Missy Sizes

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Innovative live content retailer HSN announced today that Melissa McCarthy will debut her first-ever fashion line “Melissa McCarthy Seven7” during a special live appearance on August 13th from 1-3 pm and 9-11 pm, during HSN’s popular fashion program, ‘The List with Colleen Lopez’.

The collection is available for purchase today during a special sneak preview on HSN.com. As part of the retailer’s democratic sizing initiative, HSN will carry both plus and missy sizes of the line and will be the only national retailer carrying missy sizes, aside from McCarthy’s own website that launches in late August.

Melissa’s first fashion line combines her enthusiasm for fashion with her understanding of fit and style at every size, to create a comprehensive collection that balances style with thoughtful fit features. Melissa, who went to school for design before getting into acting, is fulfilling her dream with the launch of Seven7.

The line, which was carefully supervised by Melissa, from the original sketches to the design of each print, consists of 26 styles in the August Collection. With an assortment of denim, sweaters, tees, woven blouses and ponte bottoms, the line is brought together with vibrant colors, unique prints and modern silhouettes. All denim in the collection features special technology that provides four key fit features: a slimming panel; back lifting darts; forward seam details; and a contoured waistband.

“HSN is thrilled to be the launch partner for Melissa’s debut into the world of fashion,” said Bill Brand, President of HSN. “When we first met Melissa, we were immediately impressed with her passion for design and the clear point of view she had for her line. She will create a unique and engaging shopping experience that our customers are going to love.”

March 17, 2015

HSN has a new host coming, one with apparently Hispanic roots.

Ex-QVC Diamond Expert Michael O’Connor Moves To HSN

October 16, 2014

QVC’s loss has turned out to be HSN’s gain: Celebrity stylist and jewelry expert Michael O’Connor is coming to the No. 2 home shopping network.

The classy, genial gentleman posted the news on Facebook Wednesday.

Next week HSN celebrates Gem Week featuring new and unique discoveries from your favorite designers and experts. I’ll be making appearances throughout the week from 10/20 through the evening of 10/24.

Michael O'Connor

Michael O’Connor

I hope you’ll tune-in everyday for the best of HSN’s gemstones and some trend and styling tips and gemstone information from me.

On a personal note, I want to thank all of you who have said that you miss seeing me on TV! I’m thrilled to be working with HSN next week. I hope you’ll watch and I hope to speak to you. XO

We certainly will be glad to see him back. O’Connor was usually the guest for QVC’s Affinity Diamond shows. He was knowledgeable and funny. We think that he and the ol’ Q parted ways because he wanted to do some work for Reelz, the cable network.

In any event, he was a real asset to the ol’ Q. Now he’ll be an asset to HSN. Can’t wait to see him with Colleen Lopez!

JTV Rolls Out ‘Girlfriend Friday’ Show With Nikki, Misty

August 22, 2014

Jewelry Television is taking page out of QVC’s and HSN’s books by creating a destination show with steady hosts.

Just as QVC has its Lisa Robertson show on Fridays (we think), and HSN has host “Beauty Report with Colleen Lopez” and “Beauty Report With Amy Morrison” on Thursday nights, JTV is doing “Girlfriend Friday.”

The show with Nikki Rouleau and Misty Mills airs 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., and focuses fashion and jewelry,”while encouraging women to share their jewelry stories and favorite trends on Facebook and Instagram,” according to JTV’s press release Thursday.

The show’s catchphrase is “Thank Goodness It’s Girlfriend Friday,” with the accompanying “#TGIGF”.

“Not only do I get the joy of hosting this show with my best friend, Misty, but she and I also get to interact with a larger sisterhood and share our love of all that sparkles and shines,” Rouleau said in a canned statement. “Every Friday night will be a new experience, with lots of viewer stories and questions to make it really personal and fun.”

The hosts will use social media to converse with their fans and customers by sharing their own jewelry stories, pictures and lifestyle tips. By using the “#TGIGF”, pictures and comments from fans and viewers can be shared on-air to connect this community of jewelry lovers together.

The show will also have a segment called “Girl…Tell Me About It!” that identifies news and current events as they relate to fashion and jewelry.

The hosts will do a Q&A segment regarding styles, colors and jewelry that will feature a question of the day submitted by a fan. These segments will also incorporate responses on social media from JTV expert hosts and guests.
