Former HSN Jewelers Loree Rodkin And Gastineau Girls In Suit

February 26, 2014

Two former HSN jewelry vendors are involved in some nasty litigation.

Gothish rock-star jewelry designer Loree Rodkin, whose pricey baubles we adore, has filed suit against reality TV stars Lisa and Brittny Gastineau, the former wife and daughter of ex-New York Jets player Mark Gastineau, according to JCK online and TMZ.

http://www.jckonline.com/2014/02/25/loree-rodkin-files-lawsuit-against-reality-tv-stars-lisa-and-brittny-gastineau

Rodkin, who had done jewelry for folks ranging from Steven Tyler to First Lady Michelle Obama, alleges that the Gastineau gals copied some of her pieces. And Rodkin apparently doesn’t believe that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

A while back Rodkin and the Gastineaus were both doing jewelry collections for HSN. But let us make this very clear: Rodkin’s lawsuit, filed in Cali, doesn’t involve the Gastineau’s HSN line.

The suit cites the Gastineaus’ Tres Glam collection, which is sold at Roseark retail stores.

The Gastineau girls denied that they are violating Rodkin’s copyrights. She thinks differently.

HSN Host Callie Northagen’s Son On Mend After Collapsed Lung

December 5, 2013

Sorry we’ve been so delinquent with our blogging. With the holidays, work and Christmas shopping, we’ve been running around like crazy.

This year were have turned into brick-and-mortar shoppers. With all the consumer electronics shows on QVC, HSN and ShopHQ Thanksgiving weekend, there has been little of interest to us on those networks.

We will give you a heads-up that the T.J. Maxx stores in North Jersey have had a nice assortment of John Hardy jewelry at a fraction of what you would pay in Bloomies and other high-end stores.

And gorgeous pieces by another upscale jewelry designer, Scott Kay, who is actually located in New Jersey, are being sold at a sample sale at the Ramada Inn in Rochelle Park, N.J., of all places. We stopped by there and did some more damage to our credit cards.

Scott Kay silver pieces have also shown up at T.J. Maxx. They are heavy metal, a lot of crosses incorporated in the design, and kind of remind us of Loree Rodkin’s work, a little bit Goth.

But on to more important things. Our prayers go out to HSN host Callie Northagen, whose 18-year-old son Tristan suffered a collapsed lung and was hospitalized. Callie had been posting updates about his progress on Facebook.

Yesterday she posted this:

I just to want to share with everyone how deeply thankful I am for HSN. I feel total support and love from everyone! A special thanks to my colleagues, especially those working overtime to take my shows while I’m away. I feel grateful to work for such a great company. Family always comes first…..a true gift and blessing. Thank you for that, Mindy Grossman and Jen Cotter!

We hope you son gets well soon, Callie.

HSN Partners With Universal Pictures On ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Flick For Super Duper Marketing Mash

March 28, 2012

In another one of its movie-marketing mashes, HSN is teaming up with Universal Pictures for a gigantor promotion tied to the movie “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

This cataclysmic 24-hour HSN event will take place May 30, across all of HSN’s platforms, including TV, HSN.com and HSN mobile.

“Snow White and the Huntsman,” starring Kristen Stewart, Oscar winner Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, opens nationwide June 1.

“With the release of the ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’-inspired collection, HSN continues to reinvent and re-energize retail by allowing consumers the opportunity to experience the film and engage in a flight of fantasy in a personal way — via bold and imaginative HSN products customized for ‘her,'” HSN said in its a bit over-the-top press release. “Top HSN designers will bring the movie to life with a curated assortment of exclusive products reflecting the spirit of the film.”

One of our favs, Bill Brand, HSN’s head honcho of programming, marketing and business development, offered this quote for the occasion.

“HSN has evolved into an entertainment channel that goes beyond providing a platform for commerce,” Brand stated. “At our core we are storytellers and entertain our customers with engaging content and unique retail experiences. The partnership with Universal Pictures for ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ plays a key role in elevating awareness and relevance for the HSN brand. It is an important component to our entertainment strategy.”

This event will include exclusive collections that were directly inspired by the film.

“HSN’s creative directors were given a once-in-a-lifetime look behind the scenes that awed and inspired,” HSN said in its press release. “High-end jewelry, fashions and home accessories including exclusive pieces from Hutton Wilkinson, Loree Rodkin, and Heidi Daus, will be available for sale. Designers Ranjana Khan, Adrienne Landau, and numerous others will also have styles that highlight the film’s iconic costumes playing into the overarching movie theme of beauty and power.”

Stephanie Sperber, president of Universal Partnerships and Licensing, added her two cents into the mix.

“HSN is the perfect partner to bring the look and feel of ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’ to life through fashion and lifestyle items inspired by the film,” Sperber said. “We know this 24-hour event featuring unique clothing, jewelry and accessories alongside Snow White and the Huntsman footage will build anticipation for the film’s opening on June 1.”

Here’s the boiler plate about “Snow White and the Huntsman”:

In the epic action-adventure ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ producer Sam Mercer (‘The Sixth Sense’) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Rodkin has designed jewelry for lots of celebs, Tyler included. The engagement ring she did for him has 5-carat diamond set on a micro pave diamond and platinum band.

We want a copy of that for our engagement ring.

Goth Rocker Jewelry Designer Loree Rodkin A Bit Too Cool For HSN, So She Seems To Think

October 20, 2011

Did anyone have the same reaction to gothic, rock ‘n roll jewelry designer Loree Rodkin that we did?

We thought she was acting like it was a bit beneath her — a woman who has designed for First Lady Michelle Obama and Steve Tyler, among many other celebs — to be hawking her wares on HSN.

The Loree Rodkin ring that Steven Tyler wears on his pinky

We only caught some of her show at the end of the day, so maybe she had just fading and tire.

Apparently, Cher had called in earlier to cheer Rodkin on.

Tyler wears one of the rings that Rodkin was selling, which incorporates peace signs, on his pinky. It came in three colors, gunmetal, gold and silver. Tyler, most recently of “American Idol” fame, has the ring in gunmetal.

It was $25, but we have a feeling Tyler’s version is in real previous metals with diamonds.

Jewelry Designer Loree Rodkin Brings Her Rock ‘N Roll Edge To HSN

September 29, 2011

We have long coveted Loree Rodkin’s edgy, and expensive, silver jewelry.

She often incorporates crosses in her rock-style pieces, which a number of celebs wear. We once saw a great pair of eyeglass frames in Montclair, and when we went into the shop to ask about them, we found out they were from Loree. And they were $700!

Loree Rodkin's cross cuff for HSN

So imagine our delight when we got HSN’s October Jewelry Guide, which had a rocking cross cuff and an unusual pendant and matching earring. Turns out it’s a new jewelry line, Love & Rock, by Rodkin.

The Maltese Cross Crystal-Accented Cuff Bracelet has black stingray-design simulated leather or a turquoise-colored simulated leather. It is $70, and already has two rave reviews on HSN.com.

We look forward to seeing Rodkin when she debuts on HSN Oct. 18.
