HSN’s ‘Hot In Hollywood’ Laurie Feltheimer Is Coming To Wendy Williams’ Show, Part Of Her Husband’s Empire

February 13, 2011

Laurie Feltheimer, who does the “Hot In Hollywood” clothing and accessory line for HSN, will be appearing on “The Wendy Williams Show” this Tuesday.

Mmmmm… The show is syndicated (or produced, one of the two) by Debmar Mercury, which is part of the Lionsgate TV and movie studio. And Lionsgate is run by Feltheimer’s husband, Jon Feltheimer. Coincidence? We think not.

From Laurie's HSN blog, a photo of her and husband Jon Feltheimer, a honcho at the Lionsgate studio, on the red carpet at the Golden Globes Awards

But Laurie does have chops as a legitimate expert on fashion. She does segments on fashion for a TV station in LA, in addition to her HSN line. And she is in-the-know about red-carpet fashion, which is her topic for Williams’ show, since she often walks the red carpet at the openings of her husband’s movies and awards ceremonies, most recently at the Golden Globes.

We’ve interviewed Jon Feltheimer in a prior life, and we can tell you he is very proud of Laurie’s success on HSN.

And Williams lives in our current town, Montclair, N.J. We think we spotted her once in the local Social Security office on Bloomfield Avenue.

Actress Fran Drescher, Part Of The HSN Family, Launches Her ‘Tawk’ Show Friday

November 26, 2010

Actress Fran Drescher is not only a skincare vendor on HSN, she is now the host of her own daytime program, “The Fran Drescher Tawk Show.”

The show debuts tomorrow, Friday, in a test run on six Fox-owned TV stations, including WNYW in New York City at noon. The other stations are KTTV in Los Angeles, WTXF in Philadelphia, KMSP in Minneapolis, KSAZ in Phoenix and WORL in Orlando, Fla.

Drescher is a cancer survivor and a rape survivor. To top it off, her ex-husband came out of the closet and said he was gay after they divorced. This star of the back-in-the-day hit “The Nanny” is resilient, to say the least. She started doing a natural skincare line, FranBrand, for HSN earlier this year.

So how did Drescher land her talk show gig?

According to JustJared.com, Drescher appeared on “The Wendy Williams Show” and then got a call from its producers, Debmar-Mercury.

“When I was on your show, the people that make your show asked me if I wanted to do my [own] show,” Drescher told Williams, who resides in our town of Montclair, N.J. “We’ve been talking ever since. It’s gonna premiere Nov. 26 right after Thanksgiving.”

BTW, Drescher is referring to TV syndicator Debmar-Mercury, which produces Williams’ show and is now producing “The Tawk” Show,” along with the Fox Stations. And in that HSN “Six Degrees of Separation” thing, Debmar-Mercury is owned by the studio Lionsgate, which is headed by Jon Feltheimer, who is married to HSN “Hot in Hollywood” vendor Laurie Feltheimer.

Kirstie Alley is one of Drescher's first guests

Drescher’s debut show will be “A Post-Thanksgiving Weight Loss Discussion,” with zaftig actress Kirstie Alley “tawking diet and organic food.” Mmmmmmm, we don’t know if Alley is the right person to talk about diets.

The rest of the episode will include healthy cooking with Chef LaLa and Dr. Ian Smith offering weight loss advice. He will put two members of “The Tawk Show” staff on a healthy eating plan.

Here is what WNYW’s website says about Drescher’s show: “Drescher’s new ‘tawk’ show will give viewers a look at the former star of ‘The Nanny’ in a new light. From celebrity headliners to political heavyweights, Drescher is ready to chat it up with the best of them beginning Nov. 26.”

Chef LaLa is also on the guest roster

In October the trade rag B&C wrote about the show, which will have a three-week trial period.

“I’m thrilled to be able to bring The Fran Drescher Tawk Show to daytime TV, which fits me hand in glove,” said Drescher in a statement, according to B&C. “It will cover all of my passions, everything from pedicures to politics. America will have a chance to see the real Fran Drescher, beyond ‘The Nanny.’ I’m the girl next door, a self-made woman who has been to hell and back a few times.”

No kidding, girlfriend.

The name of Drescher’s show, which pokes fun at her pronounced New Yawk accent, reminds us of our days at Multichannel News. Our tech writer based in Denver, a beautiful and razor-sharp blonde named Leslie Ellis, would delight in making fun of our accent when we saw her at trade shows.

Leslie, that sly puss, got a kick out of mimicking our pronunciation of “tawk.” It made us quite self-conscious. What a silly goose we were. We should have been celebrating our manner of speaking, just as Drescher is.

HSN Vendors’ Six Degrees Of Separation: Jennifer’s Husband Sylvester Stallone Helps Laurie’s Spouse, Lionsgate Honcho Jon Feltheimer, Fend Off Icahn

August 18, 2010

In the HSN “family,” one vendor’s husband may have helped another vendor’s husband keep control of his company.

We’re taking about Jennifer Flavin’s husband, action movie star Sylvester Stallone, saving the bacon of Laurie Feltheimer’s husband, movie studio chief Jon Feltheimer.

Sylvester Stallone have given Lionsgate a hit with The Expendables

Flavin, as any home shopping fan knows, sells the Serious Skincare line on HSN. Laurie has an apparel and accessory line called Hot in Hollywood on HSN. Here’s the deal.

Laurie’s husband Jon, whose nickname is “Felt,” runs Lionsgate, a film and TV studio that has produced movies like the “Saw” film series, the Tyler Perry money makers, and the hot Emmy-winning TV hit drama “Mad Men.”

We interviewed Jon at Lionsgate in Santa Monica two years ago when we were working for place whose name we refuse to say, and profiled the company.

Laurie's husband Jon Feltheimer

At the Emmys that year in LA, where “Mad Men” won the award for best drama, we saw the show’s leading man Jon Hamm give Jon Feltheimer a warm embrace at the Governor’s Ball after the awards.

But that was then, when Lionsgate was the toast of the town. This is now. Lionsgate has recently had a string of dud movies. That provided an opening for corporate raider Carl Icahn, who has mounted a hostile takoever bid against Lionsgate, increasing his stake in the publicly traded company.

The battle between Jon Feltheimer, Lionsgate and pesky and persistent Icahn, who has blasted Lionsgate management for producing box-office bombs this year, has been going on for months. It’s hard to keep track of it.

Laurie's Today's Special

Wall Street analysts agreed that Lionsgate needed a blockbuster film to prove that management still knows how to create a big movie. And Flavin’s husband, Stallone, provided it in “The Expendables,” a Lionsgate film.

The action flick, which also features Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke, was No. 1 at the box office this past weekend, raking in $35 million.

Stallone’s potential rescue of “Felt” and Lionsgate may wind up one of the most important feats he’s ever performed.

Laurie should take Jennifer for a nice dinner, either on the West Coast or when they’re in St. Petersburg at the same time to appear on the Southern Channel.

Anyway, Laurie had HSN’s Today’s Special Wednesday: a ruffled military-style jacket for $50.

While we’re at it, host Bobbi Ray Carter’s eyes are looking awful wide open and slanted up, unnaturally so. We know you’ll slam us for saying this, but we think she’s had some work done.

It’s Hot In Hollywood For Jon Feltheimer, HSN Vendor Laurie’s Husband, Who Is Fending Off Hostile Takeover

March 20, 2010

Jon Feltheimer

HSN “Hot in Hollywood” vendor Laurie Feltheimer’s husband has his hands full.

Jon Feltheimer, co-chairman and CEO of the boutique movie studio Lionsgate Entertainment, is fending off a hostile takeover by Carl Icahn.

The New York Post writes Saturday that Icahn is trying to derail Lionsgate’s planned $1.5 billion bid for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Icahn owns 19 percent of Lionsgate, which not only produces movies but also TV shows, including “Mad Men.”

In a press release, Icahn said he believes Lionsgate should expand its TV and film distribution business, and not fork over mney for MGM, with its film library.

It’s ‘Hot In Hollywood’ For HSN Vendor Laurie Feltheimer’s Husband, As He Faces Hostile Bid At Lionsgate From Carl Icahn

February 17, 2010

Laurie Feltheimer does a line of clothing and accessories called Hot in Hollywood for HSN. And things are indeed getting hot in Hollywood (well, technically, Santa Monica) for her husband Jon Feltheimer, who is CEO of Lionsgate Entertainment, the indie studio that produces shows like AMC’s “Mad Men” and movies like “Precious.”

Carl Icahn — the man that some call an “activist investor” and others call a pain in the butt — has made a hostile bid to increase his stake in Lionsgate. Icahn has been breathing down Jon Feltheimer’s neck since last year, when the billionaire investor griped about the acquisitions Lionsgate was making.

Lionsgate purchased TV Guide Network, and is now in looking to buy Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Miramax Films.

We’ll spare you the boring financial details, but the bottom line is if Icahn succeeds in increaseing his Lionsgate stake to 29.9 percent, he would become its largest shareholder. As such, Ichan would be in a position to potentially oust Lionsgate’s current management or look to merge or sell the studio.

We interviewed “Felt,” as Jon Feltheimer is called, last year, and he seemed like a savvy guy. We wish him luck in his continuing saga with Icahn.

These are hot

Laurie Feltheimer, meanwhile, will be at HSN in Florida Friday with shows for her Hot in Hollywood line.

Dare we say it, but we spotted a motorcycle peep-toe bootie in gray that we really like, for $60.

Maybe Jon should send a couple of pairs of these over to Icahn.

Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine Spotlights Jewelry, A Joan Rivers Purse And Laurie Feltheimer Shoes From QVC, HSN And ShopNBC

January 19, 2010

The February issue of Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine features four items fom QVC, HSN and ShopNBC in its “Great Buys Under $50” feature. The theme of the piece is great buys that are red.

The article, on page 96, cites two pieces from HSN. One is a pair of platform heels from Hot in Hollywood, the line done by Laurie Feltheimer, the wife of Lionsgate chief Jon Feltheimer. Lionsgate produces TV shows such as AMC’s great “Mad Men” and Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie.” The shoes go for $49.

The second HSN item is a $35 brooch from HSN’s V by Eva jewelry line.

The magazine also spotlights a $40 croc-patterned clutch purse from Joan River’s QVC collection.

Finally, O Magazine cites a Waltham bangle watch that ShopNBC sells.

The good news for shoppers is that the magazine says the watch is $32. But ShopNBC has it on clearance now, and it’s been reduced to only $20.

Oprah Winfrey And Home Shopping? Our Connection Is The Wife of Lionsgate’s Chief Jon Feltheimer, With Her HSN ‘Hot In Hollywood’ Line

November 8, 2009

We were trying to find a way to get Oprah Winfrey’s name into our blog, and we finally got it Sunday.

Laurie Feltheimer, who does the “Hot in Hollywood” line of clothes and accessories for HSN, did a bit of name-dropping during her shows. She was talking about the $50 skinny jeans she was selling.

“My husband has a new movie out,” Feltheimer said. “It’s called ‘Precious.'”

She is married to a gentleman we have interviewed, Jon Feltheimer, who is the head of the Lionsgate movie and TV studio.

Laurie said that “Lady O” was at the recent red-carpet premiere of “Precious.” Of course, she was referring to Winfrey, who is executive producer of the critically acclaimed movie. Winfrey wore skinny jeans to the event, according to Laurie.

“I was looking at her, and she looked so good,” Laurie said of Winfrey.

Laurie’s husband’s studio Lionsgate also produces the Emmy-winning “Mad Men,” which airs on AMC. The “Mad Men” season finale is Sunday night, and we can’t wait. Don Draper has had a rough couple of weeks, hasn’t he?

‘Mad Men’ Is Hot in Hollywood, And So Is Jon Feltheimer’s Wife On HSN

September 28, 2009

Jon Feltheimer, co-chairman and CEO of Lionsgate, produces the hottest show on TV, the Emmy-winning “Mad Men” on AMC.  And his wife Laurie Feltheimer has a “hot” product line on HSN. The perky blonde has HSN’s Monday Special Value, a ruffled sweater coat for $39.90.  It is part of her “Hot in Hollywood” line, which offers clothes, shoes, handbags and “Starlet” jewelry.

Laurie, who has been on HSN for five years, often tells the story of when she was a struggling single mom, before she met her studio-chief millionaire husband (a fairy tale ending we’d like to see happen to us). Hot in Hollywood is meant to give the average woman access to the kinds of looks that usually only TV and movie stars can afford, and stylists put together.

“When I was a single mom, I could never find stylish things that were affordable,” she said Monday.

Laurie added that she tries to keep her prices low by keeping her company’s overhead low. “We don’t have fancy offices,” she said. “I don’t bring an entourage (to HSN in Florida).”

Laurie’s goods are modestly priced, like less than $50 for skinny jeans, but we know she can now afford to buy the best. Her husband Jon, as head of Lionsgate — the  movie and TV studio that produces the “Saw” gore fests as well as brilliant shows like “Mad Men” — brings home the cash.

In fiscal 2009, he earned $4.1 million in total compensation, according to securities filings. So when she alludes to going to pricey Beverly Hills stores to see what’s out there in high-end retail, we wonder how much shopping she does for herself, and how many pieces from her line she actually wears. We have spotted her wearing jewelry from “Hot in Hollywood” on the red carpet.

On Sunday supermodel Iman, wife of rock star David Bowie, was selling her Global Chic line on HSN. Host Colleen Lopez asked Iman what her “hubby” thinks of her moderately priced line. Iman said that Bowie enjoyed looking at her goods, but that she told him not to think that it means the ends of buying expensive items for the household.
