Is entrepreneur/super model Iman on her way out, or already gone, from HSN?

All of Iman’s Global Chic merchandise is on clearance on the No. 2 home shopping channel, which has undergone dramatic changes since QVC’s parent, Qurate Retail, acquired it.

The new regime has shuttered “Miracle Mop” and “Huggable Hanger” queen Joy Mangano’s company, Ingenious Designs, and showed Mangano the door. And Iman’s clothing and accessory line was part of Mangano’s Long Island-based company.

Has anyone heard anything?

Our Six Degrees Of Separation From David Bowie

In our last blog we related how our former boss Marianne had once met her idol David Bowie. We didn’t do the tale justice.

But Marianne — who had a dog named Ziggy Stardust — is a great storyteller, and she recalled her meeting with the rocker in a Facebook post today.

I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with him at some inane, televised black tie event. At commercial break, we both left to grab a smoke. I saw him, alone, smoking. I went right up to him and just said, oh you smoke, too. My knees were shaking. I got the cigarette out, but fumbled for my lighter. So he asked if he could light my fire. Sheesh. Felt like Lauren Bacall, purring back, “you already have.”

So we had a few smokes together and I told him I named my dog Ziggy Stardust, after his famous character in the rock opera. He said, “oh no,” adding said that he prayed my dog’s ending wouldn’t he as tragic as that of the rock hero he created…

Bowie and I yapped about neurotic dogs. Guess he had them too …

I have the memory of a star I never expected to meet who was so charming and nice to me. Consider this a tribute from a “Rebel, Rebel” fan. Bye for now.

Bowie, of course, was married to super model and entrepreneur Iman, who does a line of clothes and accessories for HSN. Her collection is part of Joy Mangano’s company, Ingenious Designs.

On social media, Iman posted two telling messages in recent days.

She wrote “Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory” and “The struggle is real, but so is God.”

In our first blog about Bowie’s death we mentioned that he had two different colored eyes, but one of our readers corrected us.

“Actually, his eyes were the same color, but the pupil in his left eye was permanently dilated thanks to a fight he got in over a girl with a friend when they were 15,” she wrote. “The dilation made it look like a different color because of the way it would let more light in to refract it. Nevertheless, it also made him look much cooler. We lost that and so much more yesterday.”

By the way, if anyone cares, our favorite Bowie songs in order are “Changes,” “Suffragette City,” “Let’s Dance,” “Space Oddity” and “Young Americans.”

Condolences To HSN Vendor Iman In Death of Spouse David Bowie

We were up much later than we should have been last night, and when we checked Facebook at about 2 a.m. we saw the news that David Bowie had died.

It hit us hard. We are of his generation. We love his music. He was an enigma with two different-colored eyes.

Our former boss Marianne was a huge Bowie fan, and she met him once. She had stepped outside of some event for a smoke, and he was outside as well, smoking. She chatted with him a bit.

Of course, Bowie was married to super model and HSN vendor Iman. When we saw her on the home shopping network, she never gave a hint that her legendary husband was terminally ill from cancer.

Iman Palazzo Pants Generate $8.8 Million For HSN

Super model Iman is doing very well for HSN, according to the New York Post’s gossip column this week.

Page Six reported that Iman sold nearly a quarter-million pairs of her palazzo pants over two weekends, generating $8.8 million in sales.


Odd Couple Iman, Joy Mangano Debut New Line On HSN

Here’s an odd couple for you: Huggable Hanger inventor Joy Mangano and supermodel Iman.

The duo will be debuting its first-ever collaboration of “Fashionably Functional” fashion accessories, the “Joy & Iman” collection, on Sunday. They have the TS that day.

“This is not about a trend,” Iman said in a canned statement, “This is a collaboration that brings together fashion and function at its best.”

And Mangano chimed in, of course.

The Joy & Iman collection is priced under $40, and includes the Luxe Quilted Wallet for $19.95; a set of 4 Glam Sun Readers with slip cases for $19.95; a Scarf Wrap with Lace for $19.95; and a Luxe Quilted Sandal for $29.95.

Additionally, a Joy & IMAN Iconic Quilted “Fashionably Functional” Bag will be sold for one-day-only Sunday at $39.95.

Iman is a veteran HSN vendor, and actually, her line is part of IDL, which Mangano founded in 1991. IDL has developed and managed product lines for not only IMAN but for chef and restaurateur Todd English and “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson.

Designer Christian Siriano Rings In HSN Spring Fashion Event

“Project Runway” winner Christian Siriano debuted his new line for HSN Friday, part of the home shopping network’s effort to brand itself as “the destination for everything Spring Fashion,” from now until Match 23.

“Our Spring Fashion series makes it so easy for customers to update their wardrobe with the latest styles for the season,” HSN Chief Merchandising Officer Anne Martin-Vachon said in a canned statement, “By identifying and integrating these key Spring themes and giving our customers access to authorities like Robert Verdi, Christian Siriano and June Ambrose, we are enabling our customers to evolve their personal style and create the looks they will love.”

On the heels of his 10th show at New York Fashion Week, Siriano debuted his HSN exclusive collection today.

Celebrity stylist-turned-footwear designer June Ambrose launches her first-ever HSN collection March 22. HSN And TNT Pair Up To Launch Online Boutique Inspired By ‘Dallas’

Damn, our buddy at HSN, Bill Brand, has been busy.

He has done a deal with folks we dealt with when we were covering cable TV, namely TNT, as in “We Know Drama.”

The home shopping network, TNT and Warner Bros. Television Group are debuting a “Dallas” online boutique inspired by the show, all timed to coincide with the series second-season return today. The “Dallas”-inspired boutique is a fashion destination offering curated looks hand-selected by the show’s costume designer, Rachel Sage Kunin.


“HSN is about fresh and unique retail experiences. This new partnership with TNT and Warner Bros is the perfect opportunity to engage our customers in an exciting way, which is a key part of HSN’s marketing strategy,” said Brand, HSN’s executive vice president of programming, marketing and business development. “We have created a destination that transports our customer into the world of Dallas, featuring rich content, engaging social conversation and the opportunity to connect with the characters they love.”

The online shop will feature videos and tips from Kunin and give customers the chance to get the look of their favorite characters: Rebecca Sutter, Ann Ewing, Sue Ellen Ewing and Elena Ramos. The head-to-toe looks in the curated collection of HSN brands give fans the chance to emulate each character’s unique style.

HSN is holding a “Pin to Win: Dream Wardrobe” contest that will be judged by a celeb-studded panel: Giuliana Rancic, co-host of E! Network’s “Fashion Police”; June Ambrose, HSN’s style expert; and trend expert Louise Roe.

Pinterest users will search for, pin and share their favorite fall fashions, accessories and beauty products for fall as a part of HSN’s Fall Fashion series “The Ultimate Trunk Show” presented by Elle Magazine.

The contest started Monday and runs through Sept. 17, Pinners have to submit their dream wardrobe pinboard by picking 10 items – at least five items from and the rest from anywhere on the Web – and tag boards with #HSN and #FallFashion. Pinboards will be judged on originality, continuity, thoughtfulness and attention to detail.

HSN has quite a 35th birthday bash planned for July.

The festivities will include celebrity premieres, including “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson, Rachel Roy, and Shannon and Sophie Tweed-Simmons (think Gene Simmons) hawking their collections.

*Timepieces by Randy Jackson: On July 20, Jackson will launch Timepieces by Randy Jackson, an exclusive collection of luxury watches.
