EX-QVC Employee Charged With Stealing $200,000 In Goods: Our Advice To QVC HR Dept. Is Don’t Hire People Out On Bail For Embezzling $250,000 From A Prior Employer

February 19, 2010

It looks like one of QVC’s employees didn’t even have to dial in to place her orders.

She has been charged with stealing $200,000 worth of goods from the home shopping channel, and selling some of them to a pawn shop.

The Philadelphia Daily News in a story Friday reports that Jennifer John, who worked in QVC’s production studio from November to the middle of last month, allegedly made off with the QVC goods while she was on out on bail on charges she fleeced a prior employer of $250,000.

That’s like hiring a pyromaniac to run a fire department. We guess QVC doesn’t run arrest and conviction checks on potential employees, although these checks have been required for the jobs we’ve applied for.

John, 39, of Broomhall, was selling the hot QVC items, like Dooney & Burke purses, to a pawn shop in Middletown, Dela. She so far had gotten $15,000, according to the Daily News. Police found QVC merchandise valued at $150,000 — jewelry, more than 50 ourses and laptops — at John’s home.

In light of her activities at QVC, prosecutors are trying to revoke John’s $2,500 bail on charges that she embezzled more than $250,000 from a real estate company.

John was arrested on the new charge Feb. 4, and is in jail in lieu of bail.
