Singer Jewel To Peform Live On HSN At Crack Of Dawn Monday

November 29, 2009

If you’re a fan of the singer Jewel, set your alarm for 6:30 a.m. Monday. That’s when she will be performing live, acoustic guitar, on HSN.

Why HSN has scheduled Jewel’s first performance at dawn, we have no idea. But the singer will also be on at a more reasonable hour, 1 p.m. Monday.

We believe she will be performing songs from her CD “Lullaby,” which HSN is selling for $18.

As part of its effort to draw in non-home shopping viewers, both HSN and QVC have been offering live concert performances of artists such as Natalie Cole and Jose Feliciano.

Singer And Style Icon Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Perfumes Will Be On HSN, But Apparently She Won’t

November 24, 2009

Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Perfumes

Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku perfume will be HSN’s Today’s Special Tuesday, but it doesn’t look like No Doubt’s lead singer will be on the air promoting it. That stinks.

If a celebrity is doing a line for a home shopping channel, using their star power to try and drive sales, then we think he or she should actually show up at the venue.

But Stefani is not listed on HSN’s online program guide for midnight tonight, when the Today’s Specials debut. But Stefani, the trend-setting blonde from Orange County, did do a video clip on her perfume for HSN’s Web site.

Here’s what HSN’s Web site says about the Japanese Harajuku dolls that the perfume comes in.

“Express your individuality with a selection of eau de toilette sprays inspired by Gwen Stefani’s love of the outrageous, eye-catching street scene of the Harajuku shopping district in Tokyo,” the site says. “Packaged in adorable doll decanters, each of the fragrances in this chic collection corresponds to the personality of a Harajuku Girl. Choose from Love, Lil’ Angel, Music, Baby and G and find a scent that fits your style.”

Do You Know ‘Home Shopping Diva’ Meg Flather? Well, Apparently Millions Of You Love Her

November 23, 2009

Have you ever heard of Meg Flather?

According to a press release, Flather “is known to millions as one of home shopping television’s most popular on-air personalities,” appearing on QVC, HSN and ShopNBC.

It says she worked on home shopping networks as “a cosmetics salesperson…One of television’s top cosmetic hawkers beloved by millions of women.”

Well, we’ve been watching home shopping networks for at least 15 years — maybe more — and we don’t know who the hell she is. Never heard of her. In other words, the press release is full of crap.

Be that as it may, Flather managed to get a blurb Monday in the “Inner Tube” column of the New York Daily News’s TV section. The item plugged Flather’s Dec. 12 performance at the Metropolitan Room in Manhattan. Her show, where she does comedy and sings, is called “Home Shopping Diva…songs of love, loss, & lipstick.”

The News says that Flather is looking to trademark her moniker “Home Shopping Diva.” Yes, we’re sure there’s a long line of women looking to use that name.

The press release on Flather’s Dec. 12 gig says, “In addition to hommage to the great female singers and composers who inspired her musical career, Flather’s ‘Home Shopping Diva’ includes some comedy songs as well as sendups of the home shopping TV phenomenon and heartfelt snippets of her work advising women seeking the lost luster of their youth.”

We can’t wait.
