Margo Manhattan Brings Her Divine Jewelry To Evine Live

September 28, 2015

Last month Evine Live announced a bunch of vendors who were coming to the network this fall, including jewelry designer Margo Manhattan. We didn’t know who she was, but we do now.

We looked her up because lo and behold, Evine Live invited us to a launch party this Tuesday for her jewelry line. That shindig will be held at Studio 450 Penthouse in Manhattan, of course.

So what’s the deal with Ms. Manhattan?

She makes jewelry for celebs such as Selena Gomez, and Beyonce wore one of her necklaces for her “Blow” video.

The pieces are chunky sterling silver and gold, and remind us of the late Scott Kay’s work. In fact, we have a large Scott Kay silver cross that looks very much like the one Beyonce had on.

Super star Bey is wearing Manhattan’s necklace in a scene where she’s decked out in a colorful bustier.

We can’t wait to see what her Evine Live pieces look like. We hope that they are not so scaled down that they lose the appeal of Manhattan’s more upscale jewelry.

Manhattan made headlines in New York City a few years back when her shop on tony Madison Avenue was robbed. In fact, the necklace that Beyonce wore was reportedly one of the items taken.

We liked the fact that Manhattan said she wasn’t worried the lose of $54,000 in merchandise, she was just happy that her saleswoman was unharmed by the thief.

QVC Vendor Scott Kay Jewelry Sold to Frederick Goldman Inc.

June 11, 2015

We learned from a story written by our colleague at our day job that Scott Jay Inc., the sterling silver jewelry company, has been sold in the wake of its founder/designer dying suddenly last year.

Scott Kay, whose gorgeous weighty silver necklaces we have coveted and purchased, had a lower-priced line in the works for QVC when he passed away last year of a heart attack. The collection debuted on the home shopping network this year, with one of his daughters appearing on the shows.

Kay’s company, based in our beloved New Jersey in Teaneck, has since been acquired by Manhattan-based Frederick Goldman Inc., which does bridal and fashion jewelry.

Frederick Goldman has received $16 million in tax incentives from New Jersey to move its HQ and manufacturing facility to Secaucus, N.J., bringing 214 jobs with it.

It appears, although it’s a little unclear, that the Scott Kay folks will be moved there, too.

Jewelry Designer Scott Kay’s Daughter Brings His Line To QVC

February 1, 2015

Wow, Tiffany Kay is a brave soul, braver than us. This all has to do with losing your dad, you see.

Kay lost her dad, noted jewelry designer Scott Kay (whose company is based in Teaneck, N.J.) in December. He was only 57, and died of a heart attack. Today Tiffany, 27, debuted a lower-priced Scott Kay sterling silver line on QVC, one that has apparently been in the works for 10 years.

She is a lovely woman, and is continuing her dad’s business and keeping his legacy alive.

Our dad passed away on Jan. 13, and we would not be able to go on TV and talk about him the way that Tiffany talked about her designer dad today without losing our composure.

In fact, we have not been blogging because of circumstances stemming from our dad’s death, and the fact that we are laid up with a broken ankle. The blogs will be coming just sporadically for awhile.

We have been a fan of Scott Kay jewelry for years, and for the past two years purchased his pieces at sample sales in Bergen County. His specialty was heavy silver pieces, especially crosses and angel wings.

We have also picked up some of his jewelry at TJ Maxx.

The QVC pieces are gorgeous, with many incorporating one of our favorite stones, black spinel, and garnet. And they are not badly priced, compared to the original line.

Our condolences to Tiffany and her family. We did your dad proud today.

HSN Host Callie Northagen’s Son On Mend After Collapsed Lung

December 5, 2013

Sorry we’ve been so delinquent with our blogging. With the holidays, work and Christmas shopping, we’ve been running around like crazy.

This year were have turned into brick-and-mortar shoppers. With all the consumer electronics shows on QVC, HSN and ShopHQ Thanksgiving weekend, there has been little of interest to us on those networks.

We will give you a heads-up that the T.J. Maxx stores in North Jersey have had a nice assortment of John Hardy jewelry at a fraction of what you would pay in Bloomies and other high-end stores.

And gorgeous pieces by another upscale jewelry designer, Scott Kay, who is actually located in New Jersey, are being sold at a sample sale at the Ramada Inn in Rochelle Park, N.J., of all places. We stopped by there and did some more damage to our credit cards.

Scott Kay silver pieces have also shown up at T.J. Maxx. They are heavy metal, a lot of crosses incorporated in the design, and kind of remind us of Loree Rodkin’s work, a little bit Goth.

But on to more important things. Our prayers go out to HSN host Callie Northagen, whose 18-year-old son Tristan suffered a collapsed lung and was hospitalized. Callie had been posting updates about his progress on Facebook.

Yesterday she posted this:

I just to want to share with everyone how deeply thankful I am for HSN. I feel total support and love from everyone! A special thanks to my colleagues, especially those working overtime to take my shows while I’m away. I feel grateful to work for such a great company. Family always comes first…..a true gift and blessing. Thank you for that, Mindy Grossman and Jen Cotter!

We hope you son gets well soon, Callie.
