‘Amigo’ Deasy Leaving Evine, Wife Crowell Staying

June 26, 2018

It’s official: Paul Deasy, one of Evine’s Three Amigos, is leaving the home shopping network to go to HSN this fall. But his wife Judy Crowell is staying at the Minnesota channel.

Former home shopping host Deasy relayed the news in a live Facebook chat with his wife and fellow home shopping host/jewelry vendor Crowell this weekend.

Deasy and Crowell, if we recall correctly, have both appeared on QVC and HSN as well as Evine. And Crowell was also a vendor briefly for Jewelry Television. Then the couple came on-board Evine, the No. 3 home shopping venue. Deasy’s specialty was turquoise.

Deasy and veteran Evine jewelry vendors Chuck “Jersey Boy” Clemency and Michael Valitutti were the network’s Three Amigos. But Clemency said that moniker will be retired.

Deasy said that he has a few appearances coming up on Evine in early July.

JTV Alums Moseley, Lau To Be QVC Gem Experts

May 25, 2017

Gem expert Peyton Kelley is gone from QVC, but two Jewelry Television alum are coming to the No. 1 home shopping network: Jeff Moseley and Michele Lau.

Both Moseley and Lau posted almost exactly the same messages separately on their Facebook pages.

“I’m thrilled to announce I have officially accepted the offer from QVC to be one of their two Gemstone Jewelry On Air Guests!” Moseley wrote.

And Lau posted, “It is a done deal! I have officially accepted the offer from #QVC to be one of their two Gemstone Jewelry On Air Guests!”

We enjoyed them both on JTV, and this is no reflection on them, but we are a little perturbed if Kelley was let go to make way for them.

As we recently reported, not only Kelley, who was at QVC for years, but most recently host Jacque Gonzales are gone. As one former QVC host suggested, companies like QVC often let veteran employees, who are at the top of the pay scale, go as a belt-tightening measure. Hell, we were laid off at two newspapers for the same reason. It sucks.

Now that that’s off our chest, we note that this news about Moseley means that yet another husband-wife team is on home shopping. Moseley’s wife Erin is already on on-air rep for QVC’s Diamonique line.

Evine has jewelry vendors Judy Crowell and hubby Paul Deasy. And the network also has Pam McCoy, who used to appear on the channel back in the day with her husband Wes.

Paul Deasy’s Carico Lake Doesn’t Cut It For Us

July 21, 2016

We received our Evine Live Carico Lake pendant yesterday, and were eager to see what color the turquoise would be in this Paul Deasy special.

We blogged about this when we ordered the piece.

It turns out that it is a large, heavy-weight brushed silver pendant, nice work for the $177 Today’s Top Value price. However, while our pendant is green, it is the color of typical green turquoise, not the soft pistachio green that characterizes what we know as Carico Lake.

So our pendant will be going back.

We also purchased a 36-inch 4MM brushed silver beaded chain. It was a bit pricey, but it is also well-made and a bit unusual.

Also, we own several brushed silver pendants that would match and look great on it. So we think that’s a keeper.

Will Paul Deasy’s Carico Lake Turquoise Measure Up?

July 14, 2016

Will Evine Live vendor Paul Deasy let us down again? We will soon find out.

Yesterday we ordered Paul “The Gem Insider” Deasy’s Today’s Top Value, a large Southwestern-style pendant for $177.

http://www.evine.com/Product/155-013?icid=OnAirToday-_-The+Gem+Insider+Jewelry-_-155-013&cm_re=OnAirToday-_-The+Gem+Insider+Jewelry-_-155-013

This flower pendant came in five gemstones, namely “Sonora Beauty” turquoise, orange spiny oyster, purple spiny oyster, white buffalo and our choice, Carico Lake turquoise.

Deasy make a big deal about the Sonora beauty, which looks like Sleeping Beauty turquoise in terms of its robin-egg blue color and lack of matrix. We could care less.

We are enchanted with Carico Lake turquoise, which comes from Nevada and is a glorious green, like a soft mint or pistachio. It’s not easy to find and is pricey. We are hoping that is what our pendant looks like.

Some of the sample Carico Lake pendants were blue, not green. We certainly take Deasy’s word that his rough came from the Nevada mine. But if it is not the characteristic green of Carico Lake turquoise, WTH?

That’s like someone saying they have some Sleeping Beauty turquoise for you, and when you get it, it’s green, not the trademark blue of that stone.

We ordered a Native-American-made artisan feather pendant from Deasy a few weeks ago that came with an inset turquoise stone. We picked the one with Carico Lake. When we got it from Evine Live, it was blue, not green.

That feather pendant went back to Evine Live the next day.

We’re hoping our gemstone flower pendant doesn’t disappoint us with its Carico Lake stones.

If it does, it will also be on its way to Minnesota shortly.

Evine Live Does A Day Of Turquoise, Whoppee

June 22, 2015

We must have died and gone to heaven: Evine Live is doing a whole day of turquoise jewelry!

TURQ

Paul Deasy has the network’s Today’s Top Value, a line bracelet with Sleeping Beauty turquoise and gemstones, including our favorite, white topaz. We find it a little pricey at $250, though.

But we have always loved the combination of opaque turquoise with gemstones.

There are about 100 new items airing on this Turquoise Obsession event.

Does Ex-QVC Host Lisa Robertson Have A Boyfriend?

March 12, 2015

We’ve been out of action for a few months, while we were on the mend. That left us a lot of time to watch home shopping while the ol’ ankle healed.

Here are a few observations from along the way:

We always liked Chris Scanlon when she was an HSN host, and were happy to see she was returning to home shopping on a new net, Evine Live. But her product was a hanger that bore a remarkable resemblance to those that HSN Invention Queen Joy Mangano sells. Is Scanlon trying to be “Huggable”?

We will still hate the Evine Live name forever, but we think it was brilliant for the network to introduce its Top Value, Today’s Special or whatever else you want to call it at 10 p.m. each night, two hours before HSN and QVC. This change has us tuning in to Evine Live before midnight.

Why is Lisa Robertson smiling?

Why is Lisa Robertson smiling?

Kudos to the home shopping nets for their recent jewelry shows. Evine Live did a particularly nice job with its live broadcasts from Tucson. Wish we were there.

We missed the soiree that Evine Live held at the Plaza in the Big Apple during Valentine’s Day weekend, when the channel introduced its new moniker. Lisa Vanderpump, Paula Deen and playboy chef Todd English were all there, as was Giggy, who dresses better than we do.

But there was an uproar from fans of the Three Amigos — Chuck Clemency, Paul Deasy and Michael Valitutti — because they weren’t included in the festivities. Some viewers feared that Evine Live’s new management was sacking the dynamic trio. It was a tempest in a teapot, because these jewelry mavens appear to be quite secure, and deservedly so, as Evine Live vendors.

Talk show host Wendy Williams, who at one pointed lived in our town of Montclair, N.J., had a jewelry line on QVC that never got traction. In fact, former QVC host Lisa Robertson made several appearances on Williams’ show. Well, Williams has now joined the flock of ex-QVC vendors who have been picked up by HSN. But it looks like Williams is doing apparel for HSN, not baubles.

Speaking of Robertson, QVC viewers continue to be obsessed with her love life. She posted photos on Facebook of her recent vacation, which showed her with a younger man. He is apparently her trainer, Eric. Is her also her boyfriend? Some claim that Lisa said on Facebook that he is, but we couldn’t find any such comment.

Anyway, if he is her squeeze, good for her. If not, that’s cool, too.

QVC’s Courtney Cason: We Say You Shouldn’t

September 16, 2014

We’ve been so busy at our day job, and covering the sad passing of Joan Rivers, that we hadn’t seen QVC’s “Courtney Says I Do” promotion.

http://www.qvc.com/CourtneySaysIDo.content.html

We know people will disagree with us, but we find it a tad tacky to be discussing every detail of your impending nuptials the way host Courtney Cason is.

But then again, if the deal included getting our wedding dress designed by Mark Zunino, maybe we would change our tune.

The wedding is this Saturday, by the way. And Cason’s groom-to-be is adorable.

Here is what she blogged on QVC.com last week:

I can’t believe my wedding is just one week away. It’s weird to even type that out. It’s crazy to think that almost a year ago I wasn’t sure that I was going to be engaged anytime soon. Now it’s full on crunch time to marry the man of my dreams!

As an ex-QVC host pointed out, it’s a little risky to promote a host’s wedding. What if the marriage goes sour?

You may recall when then-QVC host Judy Crowell wed a fellow host, whose names escapes us now. It was a very short marriage, let’s put it that way.

We’re glad Crowell finally found the man of HER dreams, fellow QVC alum Paul Deasy (now on SHopHQ).

We also remember when one of our favorite bloggers wrote a lot about her coming fancy wedding to “Mr. Wonderful,” as she called him. Two years later, she was blogging about going on a date.

Needless to say, all her readers were asking her what the heck was up. She sounded a bit annoyed when she explained that she and Mr. Wonderful had divorced, and would people stop asking about her personal life.

Girlfriend, when you put your personal life out there, people are going to ask about it.

Any way, best of luck, Courtney. Seriously, God bless.

ShopHQ Live From Tucson Gem Show With Three Diablos

February 8, 2014

OK, we will give credit where credit is due.

We’ve been watching ShopHQ’s live programming from the Tucson Gem Show, featuring the Three Amigos, and we’ve been enjoying the telecasts.

Melissa Miner, Vincent Ciurluini, Judy Crowell, Paul Deasy, Chuck Clemency, Sarah Anderson and Nick Kwan.

Of course, we are jealous that we are not there. The jewelry from vendors Chuck Clemency, Paul Deasy and Michael Valitutti are been impressive. We took out our plastic to order a cross with green Kingman turquoise and amethyst.

Jewelry Television has also been saying that it will be televising on location from Tucson, but we haven’t seen that yet.

It looks like husband-and-wife ShopHQ vendors Dallas Prince and Vincent Ciurluini were also at the show, and Prince posted a photo of her and the other folks from the home shopping network, which we are posted here.

Judy Crowell Brings Her Joya Jewelry Line To ShopHQ Next Week

January 16, 2014

ShopHQ Gem Insider Paul Deasy’s better half will be debuting her new jewelry line on the home shopping network next Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Yes, Judy Crowell — a veteran of QVC, HSN, ShopHQ and Jewelry Television — is bringing Joya to the Minnesota-based network.

Crowell and Deasy are an almost annoyingly cute couple, and are a couple of rock hounds like us.

ShopHQ already is selling some of her jewelry, which has a modern and geometric look, on its website.

Here’s what Crowell had to say on Facebook about one of her new pieces, which incorporate sterling silver and real stones.

“Thought I would share some of my design inspiration – With this piece my instinct was to re-think the typical shape used for red stones (think hearts!) and give it a modern, timeless look,” she wrote of one pendant.

“I also felt that the pretty, yet unexpected, blend of red (Agate) and pink (Quartzite) would give us many more wearable wardrobe options. Hope you love it as much as I do!”

We’re looking forward to seeing what else she has up her sleeve.

Judy Crowell Readies Jewelry Line For ShopHQ

September 27, 2013

Who knew?

Judy Crowell — a veteran vendor and host on QVC, HSN, ShopHQ and Jewelry Television — has a new venture in the works.

According to Facebook, Crowell has a jewelry line getting ready for ShopHQ, where she once did a clothing line and her husband Paul Deasy now has a jewelry line, as well.

Judy’s collection, silver and gems, is called JOYA by Judy Crowell. She said on Facebook that the unveling of her new jewelry line will happen soon. No word when.
