Keith Urban Accused Of Trademark Infringement Over HSN Guitar Name

June 24, 2015

This sounds like a totally frivolous lawsuit, but country western star and “American Idol” judge Keith Urban and HSN are being sued for trademark infringement over the guitars he hawks on the home shopping channel.

The suit also takes a swipe at Urban by claiming that he is trying to piggyback on his wife Nicole Kidman’s name and fame.

Peter Beckett, a British songwriter, claims that Urban unlawfully took the name of his band, Player, and used it as the moniker for the the country hunk’s guitar kit. The package is called “Keith Urban Player.”

Patch and Page Six, the New York Post’s gossip column, both reported on the litigation.

Player had a hit in 1978 with its song “Baby Come Back.”

“Defendants’ use of the trade name and trademark Player … are likely to deceive and will continue to deceive the consuming public,” the suit says.

A Dec. 15 trial date was set on the case in LA.

In a low blow, Beckett alleges that Urban associated his guitars with Player’s name because “if not for his marriage to Nicole Kidman and if not for his appearance as a judge on the tail end of the now-cancelled ‘American Idol,’ defendant Urban’s fame would be limited to country fans for just a few more years.”

December 11, 2014

On the heels of his win at last month’s Country Music Awards, and being nominated for two Grammy Awards for “Best Country Solo Performance” and “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” just last week, Keith Urban will be back at HSN this Sunday with his latest guitar collection.

“I first started playing the guitar when I was six and I remember feeling an instant connection to it,” Urban said in a canned statement.

“So it was important to me to make learning it as easy as possible, for any age, and to create an affordable, quality instrument so that as many people as possible could have a chance to discover the joy of playing. I believe that’s exactly what we’ve been able to do.”

Urban will have the Today’s Special, his fourth HSN guitar collection, at a price tag of $299.95, $100 off of its regular price at the home shopping network.

Urban’s largest guitar collection to date, the Deluxe “Player” package comes with a 30-DVD lesson series where the handsome singer teaches aspiring musicians the fundamental building blocks needed to learn how to play 30 hit songs: 15 of his top hits and 15 classic rock favorites.

Each disc includes:

* a full lesson designed for you to build as you go to master the song from start to finish
* a one-on-one solo performance practice session to cement the flow of the song
* a play along with the band practice session
* a final session featuring a backup band where you become the star

The “Player” features two versions of the guitar: an all-wood body, handcrafted, Acoustic-Electric guitar with built-in on board 4 band EQ and tuner; or the Solid Body Electric guitar complete with double humbucker style pick-ups, 3 way selector switch and volume and tone controls.

Each 50-piece set is available in four color ways including the Keith Urban signature Brazilian Burst, Rich Black, Crimson and Jade.

Keith Urban Sells Record 22,000 Guitars On HSN

May 21, 2014

Beating his own record, no pun intended, Grammy winner and “American Idol” judge Keith Urban returned to HSN Sunday to sell more than 22,000 guitars, the home shopping network said Wednesday.

The too-cute country music star, who is married to actress Nicole Kidman, bested his previous record of 20,000 guitars. That mark was set during his sellout debut on HSN last November.

You gotta love Urban and Kidman. We recently read an interview with Kidman, and she said she often travels on the road with Urban. One of their favorite fast-food spots is Wendy’s. Can you imagine walking into a Wendy’s and seeing those two!

Most recently on HSN, Urban was hawking his limited edition “Light The Fuse” and “Phoenix” Urban guitar packages.

Urban introduced his “Light The Fuse” guitar series on Sunday as part of his Urban line of guitars.

“In true Keith fashion, the music mega star took a moment from his record-setting day for a surprise impromptu jam session with adoring fan Tori Fuson at HSN’s studios,” HSN said in a press release. “The two posed for photos and Keith ended the session by autographing her Urban guitar.”

Oy! Joy Mangano, president of HSN affiliate Ingenious Designs, chimed in.

“Keith’s ability to inspire people through music and encourage them to find their own song is simply amazing,” Mangano said in a canned statement. “I am thrilled to congratulate Keith on yet another tremendous appearance on HSN and am excited to work with him on the next phase of this incredible musical journey.”

The “Light The Fuse” limited edition series was inspired by Urban’s chart-topping album “FUSE” and “Light The Fuse” tour, which kicked off last year.

The “Light The Fuse” Collection features two versions of the “Light The Fuse” guitar — all wood electric or acoustic-electric — and comes in five gorgeous flame maple burst color ways – Brazilian, Ebony, Brazilian Blonde, Cherry Red and Teal Burst.

It is part of a 21-piece set that includes a powerful 15 watt amplifier; extra set of comfort coated strings; carrying case; signature guitar picks; and a double-lesson DVD.

The DVD features Urban personally walking you through one-on-one lessons. The complete package, with double-lesson DVD, is part of his mission to bring music into the lives of others and “inspire and help you to discover the creativity that will set you on your musical journey.”

He is currently on the road for his “Light The Fuse Tour”. At each show, Keith uses his signature Phoenix guitar — the same guitar that sold out on HSN — and then signs it and gives it away to one lucky fan in the audience.

QVC Jewelry Queen Joan Rivers Dishes To New York Post On Nicole Kidman, Lady Gaga

January 17, 2010

QVC jewelry queen Joan Rivers is in the news again, this time because she will be back on E! Entertainment Television Monday night doing a Golden Globes edition of “Fashion Police.”

Rivers, who was known for her cutting red-carpet commentary at E!, lost favor with the channel at one point, and landed at TV Guide Network. But now she’s back at E!, where she will be offering her blunt remarks on what the stars wear tonight at the Globes.

The New York Post Sunday published a Q&A with Rivers Sunday.

In the interview, Rivers sounds off on topics such as plastic surgery (an area she knows well), and gets in a nice shot at Nicole Kidman.

“Four years ago she showed up in a red dress with that white face,” Rivers told the Post. “She looked like a ketchup bottle.

Surprisingly, Rivers says she’s a fan of outrageous singer-performance artist Lady Gaga.

“I love her,” Rivers said.

We love Lady Gaga, too. Her “Bad Romance” song and video is our favorite.
