QVC, Cosmetic Execs Team On ‘Cancers and Careers’ Benefit

April 10, 2015

For the third consecutive year, QVC and Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) are joining forces for “QVC and CEW Present Beauty with Benefits,” a two-hour broadcast that will provide shoppers a chance to feel beautiful while giving back.

Next Thursday QVC will offer “prestige beauty brands” with 80 percent of the purchase price of donated merchandise benefiting Cancer and Careers, a charitable program of the CEW Foundation.

Beauty buffs can tune in to QVC for a wide range of products including color cosmetics, fragrance, skin care and hair care from brands including Laura Mercier, Clinique, Fresh, Shiseido, bareMinerals, Josie Maran, philosophy and many more.

As an added bonus, each shopper will receive a gift with purchase which features five deluxe samples from participating brands in a Sonia Kashuk-designed cosmetic bag created especially for ” Beauty with Benefits.”

Cancer and Careers empowers, educates and provides essential tools to people with cancer so that they can thrive in the workplace. Throughout the evening, inspiring segments will showcase those who have benefited from the many resources provided by Cancers and Careers.

Viewers will be shown the impact that each purchase can make on the lives of those affected by cancer, and industry experts will share beauty tips and tricks that are guaranteed to leave everyone feeling beautiful.

“QVC is dedicated to supporting our ongoing commitment to promote the success and wellness of women through the power of relationships,” said Ken O’Brien, senior vice president of merchandising for QVC. “Teaming up with CEW once again this year for ‘Beauty with Benefits’ will help us inspire viewers to positively impact lives across the country through Cancer and Careers.”

In support of the broadcast, QVC also launched a social campaign with the theme of “Better Together.” This simple but powerful phrase reinforces the collective goal of “Beauty with Benefits,” which is to bring people, products and expertise together to make life better for cancer survivors on the job.

QVC viewers, with or without a direct connection to cancer, will be encouraged to post about someone who makes life better for them, whether it is a friend, colleague, parent, teacher, doctor, grandparent, etc. Using the hashtag #BeautywithBenefits, viewers can share who they are better together with.

The social campaign will be promoted across social platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, QVC Community and Google+.

To help raise awareness for ” Beauty with Benefits,” longtime friends model and entrepreneur Cindy Crawford and makeup artist and entrepreneur Sonia Kashuk united their passions for beauty and appeared in both the print and television public service announcements for the broadcast.

Outdoor Decor Scott Brothers Head To QVC

March 28, 2015

Well, QVC says they have had four hit TV shows, but we’ve never heard of them. That must be because we avoid any home design programs like the plague.

But for those in the know, Jonathan and Drew Scott, “recognized worldwide for their real estate and design expertise,” are coming to QVC next week.

Their line of outdoor furnishings and accessories, Scott Living, will be on the air Tuesday at 10 p.m.

“Jonathan and Drew are famous for their ability to transform any living space into a dream dwelling,” Ken O’Brien, QVC’s senior vice president of merchandising, said in a canned statement. “We hope viewers will be inspired by the expert tips the brothers have to offer and seize the opportunity to update or refresh their outdoor spaces, just in time for spring.”

The press release says:

A combination of quality, style, versatility and affordability, the Scott Living collection has something to offer for design pros and novices alike. With products ranging from traditional to contemporary, the collection features an assortment of patio furniture, lanterns and lamps, decorative planters and more guaranteed to complement any style and space, with items perfect for all budgets.

“Helping fans turn their dream homes into reality is something we’re very passionate about,” Jonathan said.

“We are excited to unveil our collection on QVC and share our knowledge and experience with millions of viewers across the country,” added Drew Scott.

Since we don’t have an outdoor space to decorate, we’ll be watching “Chicago Fire” next Tuesday.

QVC and Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) are again teaming up for a two-hour live charitable broadcast to provide shoppers with a special opportunity to feel beautiful while giving back.

“QVC and CEW Present Beauty with Benefits” will April 15 and feature beauty brands including Laura Mercier, Clinique, Laura Geller, Shiseido, Josie Maran and philosophy.

“Cindy and Sonia have each been inspiring women for years with their ambition and passionate spirits,” Ken O’Brien, QVC’s senior vice president of merchandising, said in a canned statement. “We are honored to have them as our spokespeople this year and are confident that together, they will inspire viewers to make a difference.”

During the event, customers can shop from a selection of cosmetics, fragrance, skin-care and hair-care products, and 80 percent of the purchase price of donated merchandise will benefit Cancer and Careers, a charitable program of the CEW Foundation that is dedicated to the empowerment of people living and working with cancer.

Since 2013, “QVC and CEW Present Beauty with Benefits” has generated $2.2 million to benefit Cancer and Careers.

“Cancer has affected so many lives, but the challenges of living and working with cancer is often an aspect of the diagnosis that rarely gets attention,” Crawford said in a statement. “That is why I wanted to be a part of this great cause with my dear friend Sonia. Beauty is not just about the way you look, but also about the way you feel inside, and this is an opportunity for beauty to make a difference in people’s lives.”

“As a cancer survivor and beauty industry veteran, I am thrilled to be a part of Beauty with Benefits,” added Kashuk. “It’s wonderful to see so many leading names in beauty come together to support such a powerful cause that will impact the lives of so many.”

QVC Promotes Ken O’Brien To Senior Vice President Of Merchandising

November 8, 2014

It looks like the other shoe may have dropped in terms of filling the duties of former QVC U.S. President Claire Watts.

The No. 1 home shopping network Ken O’Brien to the position of senior vice president of merchandising. O’Brien is responsible for setting and executing QVC’s merchandising strategy for product brands across categories, as well as leading the engagement and management of QVC’s vendor community.

O’Brien’s elevation follows QVC’s promotion last month of Mary Campbell to the executive vice president of U.S. Commerce Platforms. She is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the company’s TV, web, mobile, tablet and social while translating the QVC brand across all platforms to drive customer engagement and e-commerce sales.

And both these promotions follow the abrupt departure of Watts. When Campbell was promoted, we suggested that she was perhaps Watts’ replacement. But someone pointed out that Campbell did not have Watts’ merchandising responsibilities. Perhaps O’Brien will take on that role.

O’Brien will continue to report to Doug Howe, executive vice president of merchandising and planning of QVC U.S.

“At QVC, we curate an ever-changing mix of high-quality products, brought to life through storytelling by our hosts, product experts, celebrities, entrepreneurs and business owners,” Howe said in a canned statement. “With Ken’s solid track record of driving strong results, QVC will continue to bring the joy of discovery to millions of homes by offering brands that surprise and inspire our customers.”

Here’s the blurb on O’Brien:

Since joining QVC in 2000, O’Brien has held merchandising roles of increasing responsibility. In his most recent role as Vice President of Merchandising, he helped drive growth in QVC’s home products category by leading the merchandising strategy for QVC’s line-up of household, kitchen and cooking products.

Prior to that, as the Director of Merchandising for home products, O’Brien created strategies to elevate QVC’s kitchen electric and gift areas by introducing new brands, concepts and categories. He was also instrumental in developing QVC’s brand acquisition strategy for home products, by procuring and introducing notable household names, such as Keurig, Dyson and Vitamix.

‘Barefoot Contessa’ Ina Garten Heads To QVC Sunday

September 25, 2014

Best-selling cookbook author Ina Garten is coming to QVC Sunday to hawk her newest tome, “Make It Ahead,” on “In the Kitchen with David,” the network said Wednesday.

Viewers will have the opportunity to order Garten’s new cookbook more than four weeks in advance of its release date.

“Ina is one of the most well-known figures in the culinary industry,” said Ken O’Brien, QC’s senior vice president of merchandising. “We are thrilled to offer her new cookbook in advance of its release, and we feel confident that our viewers will be just as excited as we are to welcome Ina into the QVC family”

Garten’s “Make It Ahead” features 88 recipes such as Wild Mushroom and Farro Soup, Braised Red Cabbage with Pancetta, and Leek and Ham Empanadas.

Her culinary career began in 1999 with the release of “The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook,” which quickly became a best-seller. Seven successful cookbooks soon followed, as did her popular program on Food Network, “Barefoot Contessa.”
