QVC’s David Venable Goes Back To Aspen To Hawk His Cookbook

June 14, 2012

Here’s the job we want: Going to Aspen each year for the “prestigious” FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen.

Yes, QVC’s usually kitchen-bound David Venable will be back in Colorado. And he’s written a cookbook, which he will be hawking. Good Lord.

As part of the F&W Classic’s 30th anniversary celebration, QVC will air a special edition of “In the Kitchen with David” Sunday at noon.

The program will feature the season’s culinary “must-haves” as well as a star-studded lineup of celebrity guests including Lidia Bastianich and Susan Feniger, who will be offering her new cookbook “Street Food,” one month before it hits stores.

FOOD & WINE Editor in Chief Dana Cowin is also scheduled to stop by the broadcast to offer FOOD & WINE’s Best of the Best cookbook and bonus FOOD & WINE Cocktails 2012, more than three months before it hits stores.

During his three-hour show, Venable will also be cooking up some excitement of his own as he offers shoppers the opportunity to pre-order his new cookbook “In The Kitchen With David: QVC’s Resident Foodie Presents Comfort Foods That Take You Home,” more than four months before it drops.

“Participating in the FOOD & WINE Classic is a huge honor, which is why we are thrilled to have the opportunity to, once again, take viewers inside the prestigious event,” John Kelly, QVC’s vice president of merchandising, said in a canned statement. “Beyond the latest cooking gadgets and gear, this year’s broadcast will include dynamic segments featuring recipes and tips from David as well as a variety of star chefs attending the festival.”

Assisting Venable with celebrity and guest interviews will be recognized media personality Sissy Biggers. Biggers, who regularly hosts the FOOD & WINE Classic Cook Off, will assume an additional role this year and serve as a guest correspondent during the QVC broadcast.

QVC viewers will also be given VIP access to some of the premier celebrations marking the FOOD & WINE Classic’s 30th anniversary with special content from exclusive parties and tastings, including the multimedia retailer’s own “QVC Experience” tent, which will be at the entrance to the F&W Classic’s renowned Grand Tasting Pavilion.

Designed to bring the “In the Kitchen with David” broadcast to life, the “QVC Experience” will allow attendees to sample recipes from Venable’s upcoming cookbook and even participate in a blind wine tasting challenge where participants can vote on their favorite wines.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to preview premier cooking and dining products available through the retailer, including KitchenAid, Le Creuset, Capresso and more. The “QVC Experience” will also feature the QVC and In the Kitchen with David applications.

QVC, You Had Us At Red Velvet: ‘DC Cupcakes’ Will Be Rolling Onto Our Thighs

October 12, 2011

Stop the presses on this one.

According to a QVC press release Tuesday, the queens of Georgetown Cupcake and stars of the TLC series “DC Cupcakes,” Katherine Kallinis and Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne, will are coming to QVC. They will appear Oct. 23 at noon.

Here’s how out of it we’ve been: We’ve never heard of this TV program. We’ve been watching soft porn and violence, like “American Horror Story” on FX, instead.

Anyway, this pair will be bringing their cupcakes with them, so to speak, to West Chester and will launch their first book “The Cupcake Diaries: Recipes and Memories from the Sisters of Georgetown Cupcake.”

During the QVC program “In the Kitchen with David,” the sisters will give viewers an inside look at the inspiration behind “The Cupcake Diaries,” which “chronicles their sweet success after choosing cupcakes over the corporate world,” according to QVC.

Maybe we should pursue that career route. It sounds like it beats journalism.

This is straight from QVC’s press release:

The new book not only reveals their secrets of building a nationally recognized business but also offers readers 42 recipes, including the bestselling red velvet cupcake and their grandmother’s Greek Easter bread. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase The Cupcake Diaries more than two weeks in advance of its release date.

As the sisters share stories and recipes, they will also offer the cupcakes that started a craze by the dozen to QVC shoppers nationwide. The Georgetown Cupcake Gourmet Cupcake Assortment consists of six of the most popular flavors, including lava fudge and salted caramel, plus six flavors exclusive to QVC. The new flavors are chocolate toffee crunch, apple crumble, chocolate marshmallow, maple walnut crunch, chocolate peanut butter caramel fudge, and citrus blossom.

“Katherine and Sophie are truly an entrepreneurial inspiration and we are thrilled to bring their story and one-of-a-kind cupcakes to QVC,” vice president of merchandising John Kelly said in a canned statement.

The Cupcake Diaries: Recipes and Memories from the Sisters of Georgetown Cupcake (QVC Item #F09562) and the Georgetown Cupcake Gourmet Cupcake Assortment (QVC Item #M26167) will be available starting Oct. 23.

Sheryl Crow — Talented, Gorgeous And Over 40 — Is Giving A Live Concert On QVC Monday

July 15, 2010

One of our favorites, Sheryl Crow, is coming to QVC.

The woman whose talent, hair, men, beauty and hipness we envy will be performing live on QVC this Monday at 10 p.m.

Crow is part of a growing list of popular artists, such as Justin Bieber, who have come to the No. 1 home shopping network to perform and sell their newest CDs. In the case of Crow, her new release is called “100 Miles From Memphis.”

Crow recently performed on QVC UK, according to QVC’s Facebook page. That’s where we learned Crow would be on QVC next week.

There is so much to admire about Crow. She is a breast cancer survivor. She adopted a child as a single mother. She is gorgeous and youthful looking, a rocker, yet is in her 40s.

We think she’s gone out with Kid Rock, who we love. Anyway, she did a great duet with him. And her song “My Favorite Mistake” is one of our favorite songs.

Here is QVC’s press release on Crow, which we just saw. QVC posted it Thursday.

Nine-Time Grammy Award-Winning Artist to Debut Her Much-Anticipated New Album

100 MILES FROM MEMPHIS with Special QVC Performance

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (July 15, 2010) – Who says you can never go home? After conquering the rock and pop worlds with six Top 10 albums, iconic singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow is headed back to her Southern roots with her new album 100 Miles from Memphis. To celebrate the release of what many critics are hailing as “her best album to date,” the Missouri native is scheduled to appear on QVC Monday, July 19 at 10 PM (ET) for a special live performance.

During the QVC Presents QSessions Live Featuring Sheryl Crow broadcast, Crow will not only give fans a sneak peek of her highly anticipated new album but also take them behind-the-scenes of the journey that led her back “home.” She will offer viewers the opportunity to order the CD, which comes with an additional bonus CD created especially for QVC customers containing 6 previously released hits, before street date.

“100 Miles from Memphis is one of the most exciting releases of the year and marks a pivotal moment in Sheryl’s career,” said John Kelly, vice president of merchandising for QVC. “We are thrilled that she is debuting this much-talked-about new CD on QVC and that she is bringing our viewers inside her world with a special performance.”

100 Miles from Memphis is Crow’s seventh album and its title reflects a statement of purpose, both musical and emotional, that marks her long-awaited return to the sounds that first drew her to making music. With the help of critically acclaimed producers Doyle Bramhall II and Justin Stanley, the album features an eclectic mix of songs. Standout tracks include the CD’s first single “Summer Day,” which is already topping the charts, as well as innovative renditions of classic top hits, including Terence Trent D’Arby’s “Sign Your Name” and a special tribute to Michael Jackson with The Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back.”

“This album was an important project for me because it allowed me to delve back into the music and sounds that I grew up with,” said Crow. “I am excited to have the opportunity to share my music, and the story behind this special record, with QVC’s viewers. It’s going to be an amazing show.”

100 Miles from Memphis, with the special bonus CD containing previously released hits (QVC Item #F08971), will be available through QVC starting July 19.

Melissa Etheridge’s Concert On QVC Set For Next Tuesday To Debut Her Album ‘Fearless Love’

April 16, 2010

We wrote about this weeks ago, but QVC finally put out a press release about singer Melissa Etheridge coming to the home shopping network to perform and debut her new album, “Fearless Love.”

She’ll be on next Tuesday in primetime, 9:30 p.m.

“This album is definitely a return to my rock n’ roll roots,” Etheridge says in the release. “I am excited for my fans to hear the new songs and am looking forward to performing them live on QVC. It’s going to be a great time!”

Call us cynical, but we find it a little hard to believe that this quote came from Etheridge, rather than someone in QVC’s PR department.

But hey, lesbians like and watch QVC just like anybody else.

As for “Fearless Love,” perhaps Etheridge should have called her album “Fearless Divorce.” She and her wife, the former Tammy Lynn Michaels, have separated. The two have been together for nine years and had twins together.

Anyway, here’s the press release:
