Once again, here’s a case where we reported this home shopping news already, but here is the official QVC press release on toGather.

QVC Launches New Social Commerce Platform, toGather

toGather Provides a Destination Where Shopping, Entertainment and Social Are One

West Chester, Pa, September 30, 2013 – QVC, the global leader in video and ecommerce retail, announced today the launch of its new social shopping platform, toGather, available at toGather is an online gathering place that brings together QVC’s vibrant and vocal community of customers, personalities and brands. Users discover something new every day through a stream of recommendations from people and brands they follow.

“toGather is another way we bring the magic of what we do every day on television to the digital space. It’s an online destination where customers discover new products and are entertained with people they know and trust,” said Claire Watts, QVC U.S. CEO. “Social shopping is all about building relationships, and QVC creates long-term relationships with customers like no other retailer. It’s one more way we are changing the way the world shops, together with our customers.”

QVC customers are already highly engaged with QVC’s social media platforms. U.S. Customers who interacted with one or more of QVC’s social channels generated more than half a billion dollars in revenue in the 12 months ending June 2013.

On toGather, users can explore what products are trending in the community or set up their own personalized feed by following people and brands that share their sense of style. As a social shopping site, toGather contains everything the consumer needs to have a successful shopping experience, including an integrated shopping cart, a full product catalogue, and trusted recommendations from an active community.

Craig Donato, founder and former CEO of Oodle — a social-commerce leader that built the Oodle Marketplace application on Facebook — now serves as VP of Social for QVC.

“No one understands social shopping better than QVC,” said Donato. “Millions of customers tune in to QVC each day to be entertained and discover compelling new products from across the globe, and toGather brings that experience online. We’re excited to continue to introduce new and engaging ways for QVC customers to connect with the brands, personalities and products that they love.”

QVC Buys Assets Of Oodle Marketplace, For Oodles Of Money

December 6, 2012

QVC has signed a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Oodle Inc., the social commerce company that runs the Oodle Marketplace application on Facebook.

The acquisition, which was actually made by QVC unit California Voices LLC, is expected to close by Dec. 31, the home shopping network said Wednesday.

“The QVC shopping experience is fundamentally social in nature,” QVC U.S. CEO Claire Watts said in a canned statement. “With this acquisition, we can fuel our evolving social commerce experience. Oodle brings a great team that shares our values and passion for creating a rich customer experience.”

“No one understands social shopping better than QVC,” said brown-noser Craig Donato, Oodle CEO and co-founder. “Bringing our teams together will help elevate and evolve QVC’s online shopping community.”

We’ve never heard of it, but apparently Oodle Marketplace “is a social marketplace where users buy, sell, and give with friends, friends of friends, neighbors, co-workers, and other people in their local community,” according to QVC.

Oodle’s Marketplace, which has over 11 million unique monthly users, is available on Oodle, Facebook, and iPhone, iPad, iTouch, and Android devices.
