Actress Kate Walsh Sold Out Her ‘Boyfriend’ On HSN

November 18, 2010

Actress Kate Walsh, a “Grey’s Anatomy” alum and now the star of “Private Practice, apparently picked the right venue to launch her women’s fragrance “Boyfriend.”

Flame-haired Walsh’s fragrance train case, including Boyfriend eau de parfum, pulse point oil and votive candle, sold out on Day One, Nov. 11, of her HSN appearance, exceeding sales expectations, so we are told.

“The success of launch day sales of the Boyfriend Fragrance train case, which offers a collection of fine fragrance and bath and body products, occurred in just 50 minutes of air time,” HSN said in a press release Wednesday.

“Walsh began selling the single pulse point roller ball, solid perfume and body creme on Day Two. The pulse point oil and body cream both sold out by day’s end. The launch day sales of Boyfriend, further reinforces the success that HSN has achieved with celebrity fragrances.”

Here is some more hype from the release:

Walsh describes her inspiration for the fragrance coming from a mysterious ex-boyfriend whose scent she missed. She wanted to be able to recreate the scent of that shirt he left behind. “A warm, nuzzly scent, this fragrance embraces you like a big hug. I really wanted women to have that delicious feeling of romance whether ‘he’s’ in the picture or not,” says Walsh. “I was thrilled to launch on HSN and to share my vision of the Boyfriend story with HSN viewers.”

And HSN honchos managed to get their two cents in.

“Boyfriend’s success further reinforces our role in changing the paradigm for a prestige fragrance launch and our commitment to continue to innovate in the retail space,” Lynne Ronon, HSN’s executive vice president of merchandising, said in a canned statement.

But here is some interesting dope on the social-media marketing of the scent.

Leading up to the launch of Boyfriend, Walsh released eight webimercials that she wrote and direcred, “relaying the sentiments the Boyfriend scent was developed to evoke,” HSN said.

Launched via various social media channels, including Twitter, YouTube and select blogs, the Boyfriend webimercials have been viewed more than 200,000 times to date and were released by Walsh prior to her appearance on HSN to drive excitement and anticipation.

Actress Kate Walsh, Out Of Scrubs, Tells Us About Her Boyfriend On HSN

November 12, 2010

We caught a bit of actress Kate Walsh’s debut on HSN with her “Boyfriend” perfume Thursday morning, and she seemed pretty at ease hawking her new fragrance for women.

Walsh, a gorgeous redhead, was wearing a red dress. She was a bit of a tease. She told host Diana Perkovic that some of her co-stars on ABC’s “Private Practice” — “You know who they are,” she told HSN shoppers — had sniffed her Boyfriend and loved it.

We're getting sick and tired of running this photo

Walsh’s cast mates on “Private Practice” include hunky Taye Diggs, Tim Daly and Amy Brenneman.

Walsh described her fragrance as a mix of vanilla and musk, and explained how she came up with Boyfriend.

The actress broke up with a boyfriend (small “B”) five years ago, and missed him and his scent.

“You know how your guy smells,” Walsh said, noting that you can smell your man’s aroma and pheromones on his shirt and other clothing. (Funny, the shirt of the guy we’ve been dating is hanging on our doornob, and we can’t smell him on it. And we’ve been sniffing it like a hound looking for a hare all week.)

Anyway, after her break-up Walsh went to a store looking to buy a men’s fragrance to remind her of her guy, and they were all too strong. Hence, she came up with her softer version of man’s fragrance for women.

Actress Kate Walsh, Touting Her HSN Perfume, And Ellen DeGeneres Sniff Bare-Chested Men Looking For ‘Boyfriend’

November 10, 2010

Show us four young shirtless men with impeccable pecs, being nuzzled on the chest by Ellen DeGeneres and actress Kate Walsh, and you’ve got our attention. We likey, as Carrie Bradshaw would say. And that’s what happened Tuesday afternoon.

Flame-haired Walsh appeared on “Ellen” to flog her new fragrance for women, Boyfriend, which will debut on HSN later this month.

Kate Walsh by Roberto D'Este

Walsh, who made her name on “Grey’s Anatomy” as Dr. McDreamy’s wife and is now stars on “Private Practice,” had a tough act to follow on “Ellen.” The perky, usually hilarious blonde comedian had just finished interviewing super star Madonna by satellite, with Madge making a poignant plea against the bullying of young gay people.

The tone of the talk show got a lot lighter when Walsh, who just turned 43, came on. Walsh is utterly likeable and charming, and we predict she will be well-received by HSN shoppers.

The Boyfriend Kit

She told Ellen that she came up with the idea for Boyfriend after she had broken up with a boyfriend, and missed his scent. Ellen showed one of the promos that Walsh shot for HSN, which shows her bouncing up and down on her own bed in her bedroom. The cat in the spot, by the way, is not really Walsh’s pet feline.

Then Ellen arranged a test for Walsh, which gets back to the shirtless beefcake. Ellen made Walsh smell each one of the guys to see if she would recognize which one was wearing her fragrance, Boyfriend. Ellen also did some sniffing.

And Walsh did well, correctly stating that studmuffin No. 3 was wearing Boyfriend.

Ellen had “The Boyfriend Kit” fragrance grouping, which HSN will be selling, on the set of her show.

At the end of the segment, Ellen finally mentioned that Boyfriend will launch on HSN, and that everyone in her studio audience would be getting the new perfume.

Actually, we’d rather get one of the guys.

Actress Kathy Najimy Joins Vendor Parade On HSN, But We’re Not Quite Sure What She’s Selling

October 18, 2010

Kathy Najimy

Who next on HSN, Betty White?

The No. 2 home shopping channel has been spewing out press releases in a torrent, and Monday came the announcement that actress Kathy Najimy was debuting ‘Ch’Arms’ at HSN on Tuesday.

HSN explained that Ch’Arms, invented by Najimy, is a “lightweight accessory, designed to be worn under short sleeve or sleeveless tops” and “is designed for women seeking coverage for their arms while keeping the integrity of their outer garment intact.”

Sorry, we can’t quite figure out what that looks like, and its not on HSN.com yet.

“Ch’Arms is a garment problem-solver,” Najimy said in a canned statement. “For those of us who love the look of short sleeve or sleeveless garments but sometimes choose to have our arms covered, Ch’Arms gives us the best of both worlds. No more bulky layers either under or over your cute shirt or dress. Ch’Arms is lightweight and seamless and allows its wearer to feel comfortable and confident, covering your arms without covering your garment or body!”

Needless to say, but yet HSN says it, the network is “thrilled” to be partnering with Najimy.

“We’ve admired Kathy’s work for years, and to be able to bring her innovative design concept to our engaging customer base is an exciting opportunity for us all,” said Chuck Anderson, HSN’s senior vice president of merchandising.

Just last week HSN announced that “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” star Kate Walsh was doing a perfume line called Boyfriend for the network.

Najimy’s collection, which will launch in six colorways — black, white, nude, grey, mocha and plum — comes in three distinct fabrications that include cotton, control spandex and evening sheer mesh.

Sheer evening mesh Ch’Arms has been designed by Najimy to blend seamlessly into the background, allowing a woman’s top or dress to stand out. Control Ch’Arms is constructed to minimize the arms and midriff, while cotton Ch’Arms provides a more casual option and can be worn with a multitude of garments.

The Ch’Arms Comfy Cotton and Ch’Arms Spandex Control will both retail for $29.90 and be available exclusively at HSN, http://www.hsn.com and via HSN Mobile.

For 14 seasons, Najimy performed the voice of Peggy Hill, on the Emmy-winning Fox TV hit “King of the Hill,” (Annie award & 2 Women In Film awards) and for three seasons she starred opposite Kirstie Alley as Olive on NBC’s “Veronica’s Closet,” (American Comedy Award).

Najimy is known internationally for her portrayal of Sister Mary Patrick in the blockbuster movies “Sister Acts” 1 and 2, (ACA Awards, Hollywood Press discovery of the Year Award), as well as starring roles in the cult hits “Hocus Pocus” and “Ratrace.”

As well, as the “Sister Act” movies, Kathy has appeared in over 20 films including “The Wedding Planner.”
most recently can be seen in Step Up 3D.

For television, as well as “Veronica’s Closet,” Najimy starred as series regular Millie Finch, the head of the University, on the CBS hour drama “Numb3rs.”

For the stage, Najimy starred on Broadway as Mae West in “Dirty Blonde” (Outer Critics Circle Best Actress Award), and starred in her original off Broadway hit: “The Kathy and Mo Show” (Obie Award) for more than 20 years, which turned into two award-winning HBO TV specials (American Comedy award, Ace award). Najimy was named Ms Magazine’s “Woman of the Year” in 2005.
