HSN Jean Queen Diane Gilman Returns

HSN jean queen Diane Gilman, who has been off the air for about a year to be treated for breast cancer, is finally returning.

Gilman this week posted a video on Facebook saying that she will be back on HSN Nov. 17 with a Today’s Special. During her illness, Gilman’s line has continued been sold on HSN since her absence, with a host filling in for her on-air.

In the video you can see that Gilman has a whole new look following her cancer treatments. Gone is the big, frizzy long red hair. She is sporting short curly white-gray hair, and we think it looks great “post cancer,” as she puts it. She is four-months post chemo.

She noted that she received more than 130,000 supportive comments from well wishers the first two days after she announced she had cancer, and it was an inspiration to her.

Gilman, who got teary-eyed in the video, said she had continued to design but missed going on the air to talk to her customers.

We welcome her back, but ol’ New York accent and all.

And while we are at it, we see that HSN has taken a page from Evine’s book and is now introducing its TSs at 10 p.m., not midnight. Guess the Qurate overlords don’t want HSN’s Today’s Special debut competing against sister channel QVC’s Today’s Top Value, which bows at midnight.

Welcome back, Diane! It will be wonderful to see you.

Welcome back Diane! I hope you are cancer free FOREVER and that you are feeling well.
Her white hair is pretty; but I think the short ‘do (I realize it’s short due to chemo) and white colored hair age her. I wasn’t a big fan of the loooong red wild hair, but I think there is a happy medium.
How about the same red color, and grow her hair to just above her shoulders, and wear it in a longish bob. I think that would be much more flattering than the other 2 extremes.
I am a hairstylist and on the side, I do volunteer work with people dealing with hair loss due to chemo and other cancer treatments. I always tell my ladies and gents that a bald head and slowly growing hair back in are a teeny tiny price to pay in exchange for LIFE, and beating cancer.
Whatever you do with your hair Diane, you are a survivor and cancer can’t beat you. Many blessings to you. Glad you’re back!!

Good for you, Bette. That is wonderful that you volunteer and help people with their beauty and barber needs while they fight cancer, and after. My aunt does hair, too, and she’s been doing that for almost 20 years. She gets a great deal of satisfaction from it.
I, too, am glad to see Diane back on air. I hope she has won her battle with cancer for good. I buy her jeans occasionally and a top once in awhile. I really don’t care much for HSN anymore. The merge with QVC sealed the deal….in plain English, it sucks.
Also, I know Diane is just getting her hair back, etc, and has a ways to go with growing it and all, but I totally agree. The short white hair makes her look old and frail. If it’s permitted by her doctors, she should color it. That would help tremendously. Some women can rock gray hair and it actually makes them look younger. My aunt is one of those. She looks 10 years younger now that she stopped coloring her hair. Unfortunately, Diane isn’t like that. She needs color and a bit more hair. Don’t shade me, it’s loving criticism. She’s an attractive woman and this look just washes her out. In the end it’s up to her, anyway.
Glad to see you back, Diane.

I saw her video. Very emotional. Still a welcome change for HSN for once.

  4. Sheila Says:

It will be good to see Diane on air again. I don’t like Shivan, she makes fun of plus size measurements when selling garments. At least she used to. And of course, I wish Diane the very best and hope she stays cancer – free.
I realize her short gray hair is a result of chemotherapy, but I don’t like it, it makes her look OLD. Hopefully she’ll go back to her previous look or something more flattering, she’s a lovely woman.
Welcome back, Diane, you were missed.

While I sympathize with anyone he was going through cancer or any major medical trauma I must say that my compassion for someone who has unlimited Financial Resources is that the same as it is for someone such as I who has Medicare and medical bills and has astronomical medical bills every month for treatment Labs test Etc I am like most women who are on the verge of losing her home for finances and everything else and my battle to save my life over the last 7 years I wish that the compassion was shown on a broader scale for women who do not have the public profile or financial resources that a celebrity does average women need to fight not only for their life but to find the financial resources to cover the outrageous medical bills associated with any traumatic disease

While I sympathize with anyone going through cancer or any major medical trauma I must say that compassion for someone who has unlimited Financial Resources is hard pressed
Someone with only Medicare and astronomical medical bills every month for treatment Labs test in excess of 15K looks for the same support

I am like most women who are on the verge of losing her home for finances and everything else and my battle to save my life over the last 7 years I wish that the compassion was shown on a broader scale for women who do not have the public profile or financial resources that a celebrity does

average women need to fight not only for their life but to find the financial resources to cover the outrageous medical bills associated with any traumatic disease as well as a medical community compassionate and educated enough to help these women in their battle to continue to live

I must say, Diane’s return brought a much needed breath of fresh air to a very stagnant HSN. Although she gets a but overzealous at times and talks over the hosts, she’s still a nice gal and I’m so happy to see that she is doing well. I wish her a cancer free future.
I do agree with other posters about her hair. Hopefully soon she can color it; that will help. Also, her makep is a little too bland for someone with light skin and hair. While she needed a hair makeover, this is too severe. It washes her out and ages her. Kudos for keeping it natural post chemo, however.
Although I don’t purchase much from her, or HSN, for that matter, it’s great to have her back.

  8. Jerri Says:

I caught a minute of Diane on air yesterday and it was good to see her. I didn’t know in advance; I’ve been so busy with work that I scramble to get home things done on my days off. I hope she is free of cancer for good.
I must say the hair was a surprise; I would have expected a wig. Kudos, indeed for going natural but I have to agree; it doesn’t suit her. The hair will grow, of course, and it’s up to her whether she colors it. I agree with a previous poster; some brighter makeup would help. A slightly smoky eye and a brighter shade of lipstick would make a difference. Anyway, it’s good to see her back.
As for the earlier today’s special, why didn’t they do that a LONG time ago?! When I actually bought from them, it would have been nice to see it at 7 PM instead of 9 PM (I lived on the left coast then; now I’m Southwest). And I’m SURE it was to keep up with Evine. It doesn’t matter to me, now, I’m done with HSN and QVC. QVC will be next to offer the TS earlier. Too little, too late.

  9. Natasha Says:

Although I don’t buy from HSN anymore, I did watch a little of Gilman’s return. I wish her well and it was good to see her back on air.
I agree with other posters; her hair and makeup wash her out badly. Hopefully she’ll fine tune it and get the look that matches her bubbly personality. I realize she has been through cancer treatment and it is hard on one’s skin and hair. She just needs to experiment with different looks to find her best look again.
And may she be cancer free forever.

  10. Janet Miller Says:

I used to buy products of Serious Skin care and Diane Gilmans fashion. But since Jennifer Stallone has left, with change with Qvc, this site hasn’t been the same.
