The No. 1 home shopping network is touting toGather, its own Pinterest-like social shopping communit.

“Customers, hosts and the whole QVC community are already curating toGather holiday collections and sharing their favorite ideas for everything from gifting to entertaining,” QVC said in a press release Tuesday

“Our communities of hosts, expert guests and customers are curating collections of unique gifts that provide inspiration in an entertaining way. What differentiates QVC is our focus on the most important part of the season – the real relationships we have with each other, which is the foundation of our brand and the heart of our social communities.”

QVC’s Season of Social extends across social channels, mobile apps, live programming and online. Network hosts are sharing their holiday favorites through their own toGather collections, tips on Facebook and special holiday programming, such as “A Lisa Robertson Christmas,” airing Friday nights in November.

Throughout November, customers can also take advantage of shopping events on QVC for holiday gifts.

Starting on Thanksgiving evening, QVC’s “Better Than Black Friday” weekend will offer savings on the gifts.

In addition, QVC will participate in #GivingTuesday, an initiative of the United Nations Foundation and the 92nd Street Y that creates a national day of giving. In alignment with #GivingTuesday, QVC will launch its own giving campaign, called Give Joy, which will run from Dec. 3 through Jan. 3

QVC has partnered with four charities that support the success and wellness of women through the power of relationships, and will be matching customer donations up to $150,000. Give Joy beneficiaries include the American Heart Association, Cancer and Careers, Dress for Success Worldwide and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Throughout the holiday season, QVC has once again extended its return policy; gifts purchased between now and Dec. 23 may be returned up until Jan. 31.

Remember when “page clicks” was the mantra for how successful a website was, well “social” is the new buzz word for page clicks. It is all BS and and a means to deflect one’s attention away from the poor performance of the organization’s main business. And I am afraid QVC and the other home shopping businesses are dated and scheduled for the trash heap of retail concept. Their core audience is elderly, their products are not compelling or price competitive. They are sustained by credit and Easy Pay plans which can be replicated by other retailers but who choose not to because of the expense involved. Further in the case of QVC, the management is weak, new and nobody is really left who knew how to drive sales and who really provided real customer service and integrity not just slogans and lip service.
