ShopHQ Live From Tucson Gem Show With Three Diablos

February 8, 2014

OK, we will give credit where credit is due.

We’ve been watching ShopHQ’s live programming from the Tucson Gem Show, featuring the Three Amigos, and we’ve been enjoying the telecasts.

Melissa Miner, Vincent Ciurluini, Judy Crowell, Paul Deasy, Chuck Clemency, Sarah Anderson and Nick Kwan.

Of course, we are jealous that we are not there. The jewelry from vendors Chuck Clemency, Paul Deasy and Michael Valitutti are been impressive. We took out our plastic to order a cross with green Kingman turquoise and amethyst.

Jewelry Television has also been saying that it will be televising on location from Tucson, but we haven’t seen that yet.

It looks like husband-and-wife ShopHQ vendors Dallas Prince and Vincent Ciurluini were also at the show, and Prince posted a photo of her and the other folks from the home shopping network, which we are posted here.

Did ShopNBC’s Chuck Clemency Make Black Spinel A Stone Star?

August 26, 2013

Are we crazy? Wait a minute, let’s rephrase that.

In Facebook ShopNBC/ShopHQ jewelry vendor Chuck Clemency last week took credit for bringing black spinel into the market and making it a popular gem.

Jersey boy Clemency made the comments in response to No. 1 home shopping network QVC for the first time ever offering a Today’s Special Value in that black spinel, hoop earrings. (That show was hosted by QVC pretty boy Rick Domeier, who repeatedly made reference to “the Facebook.” No, no, no “the,” Rick.)

Here is what Clemency posted:

“I’m watching the ‘Q’ and they have a ‘Today’s Special Value,’ an inside-outside Black Spinel hoop. I just heard the host say it’s the stone of the year. Wow!! They are selling 1″&11/2″ Big Daddy’s their not. I want to thank all of my friends who shop with me on Shopnbc for making this the gemstone it is today!”

The Big Daddy’s Clemency was referring to where his own huge black spinel hoops.

Now here is where us being crazy comes in. We’ve seen more black spinel in the past year on Jewelry Television than any other home shopping network, at terrific prices. We love the stone and bought several JTV necklaces in it.

We don’t remember it having much prominence on ShopNBC or with Clemency until this year, long after JTV was offering a wide variety of black spinel baubles.

What do you folks remember? Does Chuck deserves props for making black spinel a hot rock, or not?

ShopHQ’s Diamond Day Sparkles With Dallas Prince Hubby

August 10, 2013

ShopHQ, formerly ShopNBC, is holding a Diamond Day event today, and it’s worth checking out.

Getting off the air right now, but we believe he’ll be back later, is jewelry vendor Dallas Prince’s hubbie. Vincent Ciurluini is peddling some pretty pieces, including a Celtic-style white and blue diamond cross that just sold out.

All the ShopHQ vendors are wearing tuxes, including Chuck Clemency.

Herkimer Diamonds: ShopNBC Versus HSN

March 24, 2013

For the first time in a long while, we spent a lot of time in front of the boob tube tuned to ShopNBC Thursday and Friday for its Gem Day festivities, and we caught a bit of jewelry doyenne Judith Ripka on QVC last night.

Actually, we were pleasantly surprised at the assortment of goodies that the Three Amigos — Jersey Boy Chuck Clemency, Paul Deasy and Michael V. (we’re to tired to look up the right spelling on his name) — trotted out for the Minnesota home shopping venue.

Deasy really got in our good graces by pulling two Herkimer diamond necklaces out of his bag of tricks. HSN vendor Deb Guyot brought a Herkimer necklace to that home shopping network as a TS some months back, and we are wearing it as we write. Apparently, she doesn’t have an exclusive on the market.

Herkimer diamonds, quartz crystals that come to points at both ends, are supposed to be powerful spiritually, helping foster creativity and opening a shitload of chakras. The stones come from Herkimer County in Upstate New York, which was in the news last week when a crazed gunman killed some innocent folk up there.

Guyot’s Herkimer diamond necklaces for HSN are 5 mm, at 18 1/2 and 24 inches for $280 and $370, respectively.

On ShopNBC Deasy offered just the 18 inch length, but had two different widths, 5 mm and 6 mm. His necklaces, non-Gem Day priced now, are $358 and $418.

Deasy, a home shopping vet who is married to another home shopping vet, Judy Crowell, is a delight to watch. He made a lot of self-deprecating jokes about his clothes and his need to get one of Suzanne Somers’ Face Masters. He and Judy are lucky to have found each other.

We Crown JTV The King Of Black Spinel, Chrome Diopside

March 24, 2013

We are actually going to tip our hat to Jewelry Television tonight. Hell has officially frozen over.

Both ShopNBC and QVC have been hot and heavy touting what they are calling the new “in” gemstones, black spinel and chrome diopside. But JTV has led the way with those gemstones, beating the pants off its two larger home shopping rivals.

Jersey dude Chuck Clemency for ShopNBC’s Gem Day had a ring with a huge chrome diopside center stone as the net’s Today’s Top Value. And he and other vendors had a number of chrome diopside pieces, as well.

Meanwhile over at QVC, jewelry diva Judith Ripka has some pretty pieces with black spinel pave, including a huge ring and a round locket.

But the fact of the matter is, JTV has been offering a huge array of both Siberia-origin chrome diopside and black spinel for a long, long time now.

We’re not chrome diopside fans. While the color is pretty, the stone is extremely soft, too soft for us.

But we love black and hence we love black spinel. And JTV has some amazing black spinel pieces with huge honking stones for really great prices. ShopNBC, HSN and QVC have nothing to match it.

Just sayin’.

ShopNBC Host Kendy Kloepfer Is Queen of Annoying

February 25, 2013

Long story short, we just realized that we have ShopNBC on our Comcast channel lineup. We are off Fridays, and spent much of that day last week and Saturday checking out ShopNBC’s Tucson jewelry event.

We were pretty impressed with ShopNBC’s offerings and picked up two dainty items in our new favorite gemstone, black spinel.

Kendy Kloepfer

Kendy Kloepfer

We tuned in for the Saturday night finale of Tucson with host Kendy Kloepfer and Jersey jewelry maven Chuck Clemency, and by the end of the show we wished we could have blasted Kloepfer out of our TV set.

First of all, we are huge advocates of celebrating your birthday and proudly proclaiming your birthday. That said, we wanted to muzzle Kendy. She would not stop telling Chuck, and viewers, that her birthday was Sunday (or was it today, Monday? Guess we blanked it out).

If we had a drink every time she mentioned that her 50th birthday was almost here, we’d have been dirty drunk.

Next, maybe facing a midlife crisis, Kendy told Chuck about a man who got very friendly with her at her son’s hockey game. She all but said that he hit on her. And she repeated that comment again and again, adding that her husband was getting jealous and agitated and was ready to take on the randy spectator.

Give us a break, Kendy. Next time your husband should give you a dressing down for flirting with strangers right in front of his eyeballs.

It was a thoroughly annoying ShopNBC segment, and we put the TV on mute a couple of times to make it tolerable. Kendy said she was going to Costa Rica, and with any luck she’ll stay.

By the way, Jewelry Television is the king of black spinel. ShopNBC has some selection, and QVC has a bit. But JTV’s assortment and prices for black spinel are unsurpassed.

ShopNBC’s Chuck Clemency Working On High-End Jewelry Line

February 18, 2013

We’re not sure if we had it and didn’t realize it, or just got it, but we found ShopNBC on channel 89 on our Comcast lineup a few days ago.

We tuned in to ShopNBC Sunday after watching “The Walking Dead” and “The Talking Dead,” and Jersey guy Chuck Clemency was on with his Diamond Treasures line.

He said something that made us look up from reading the Sunday New York Post.

He is doing a new line for ShopNBC that may be named “Chuck After Dark.” Clemency said that it would be high-end jewelry, possibly some one-of-a-kind pieces, that would incorporate real gold, diamonds and other precious stones.

Can’t wait to see that.

Here’s What ShopNBC Vendor Chuck Clemency Is Up To In Tucson

February 7, 2013

If you dropped a bomb on Tucson this week, you would probably knock off 90 percent of the home shopping jewelry vendors and a nice chunk of the network hosts in America.

These jewelry mavens and on-air talent have flocked to southern Arizona for the Tuscon Gem Shore. IF we died and went to heaven, that is where we would be, too.

It looks these folks have been having so much fun that they haven’t had too much time to post many photos on Facebook, but a couple have taken the trouble.

Judy Crowell — an alum of QVC, HSN, ShopNBC and Jewelry Television — posted a shot of ShopNBC vendors Jersey Guy Chuck Clemency and Michael Valitutti out among the saguaros shooting a promo for the home shopping channel.

And ShopNBC host Lynne Schacher posted several photos of her and Clemency.

We wonder what HSN host Colleen Lopez and HSN rock god Jay King are up to in Tucson.

Was ShopNBC Trying To Stick It To HSN By Selling The Exact Same Ring, Touted As ‘Rare’ By The Southern Channel, At A Cheaper Price?

July 28, 2010

HSN customers were not happy campers when they saw that ShopNBC was selling the same ring as HSN at a lower price

HSN customers are complaining that a carved coral rose ring the home shopping network offered as a Today’s Special July 15 was being sold the next day on rival network ShopNBC — at a lower price.

And to add insult to injury, the HSN ring is part of the popular “Rarities” line. How “rare” are your pieces when your competitor has them on soon after you — at a less expensive price point?

We’ve been watching electronic retailing for several decades now, and we can’t recall two home shopping channels hawking the exact same piece of jewelry.

Here’s the deal. Back on July 15 Carol Brodie, who we love, as HSN’s Today’s Special. It was a ring with peachy pink carved coral roses with white topaz accents, and its TS price was for $90.

We blogged about it.

Well, ShopNBC’s Gem Treasures line by in-house jewelry designer Chuck Clemency had what appears to be the exact same ring, with the carved coral roses.

The only difference between the two rings was that HSN’s ring used white topaz for accents, while ShopNBC’s had white zircons. Oh, and there was that price differential.

The ShopNBC ring went on sale shortly after the HSN one for just $79, compared to HSN’s TV price of $xx. Now, the coral ring is priced at $ 130 at HSN, and $xxx at ShopNBC.

HSN customers were the one’s that tipped us off to this situation. They posted complaints on HSN.com.

Here are some of them:

“Beautiful.. not sure it’s a rarity?…I was thrilled when I received this yesterday, it is truly beautiful piece of jewelry, looks very italian and feminine. Mine was very coral in color, a soft blush peachy pink. I love everything about it and will keep it, however I was a bit dissapointed to see the exact same ring on shopnbc.com (item 320614) for $78.62 (regular price $98.75). It is identical down to the carvings on the side the platinum plating, the white topaz. I thought Carol’s pieces were unique and designed by her, so this makes me doubt if what she is bringing is truly original or if hers was copied. I will keep it anyway, highly recommend!”

Blingrat (we love that name) wrote, “Too oversized to be wearable. And it is not exclusive! Saw it 2 days later on competitor’s channel at $21 less!”

Another poster said, “The ring is pretty but the color is not uniform and it is more expensive than else where. It is $ 78.96 on another network that is their regular price for this exact ring Not a Today’s special. I am thinking whether to keep it or return it.”

We asked HSN and ShopNBC on Monday what gives. That’s why we sat on the story.

ShopNBC said they were looking into it, but never got back to us. We can’t help but wonder, were the folks in Minnesota trying to stick it to HSN by putting their coral ring up for sale right after HSN has it as a TS?

HSN said that its ring had been in production for almost a year.

“Carol Brodie is constantly searching for exciting discoveries to bring to our customers and has had great success over the last year,” an HSN flak said. “Her carved coral and white topaz ring is rated as a ‘customer pick’ based upon online reviews. We look forward to introducing new additions from Carol in the coming months.”

Hmmmn, we are definately thinking that ShopNBC tried to screw HSN, by embarrassing the No. 2 home shopping channel, sticking a pin in the “Rarities” claim and showing it underprices HSN.

Cute Critters, Big Jewelry Trend, Find Happy Homes On HSN And ShopNBC: FYI Chuck Clemency, Squirrels Don’t Lay Eggs

November 17, 2009

This is strictly a post for chicks. Critter jewelry is one of the biggest trends in the business, so much so that HSN has an entire section on its Web site called “Critter Corner.”

It’s basically jewelry fashioned out of every kind of creature you can imagine.

On ShopNBC Monday, vendor Chuck Clemency had on the cutest pieces of critter jewelry we have ever seen: A squirrel pendant and ring.

They both featured a squirrel holding a “nut,” which is actually a citrine stone, and nibbling on it. These items have sold out three times, and this squirrel is Clemency’s No. 1 favorite critter.

He told some wacky story about a squirrel making a nest and having babies in his attic, and said he did not know if the rodents gave birth or laid eggs. Yikes, and this guy is from Jersey!

As for his squirrel pieces, Clemency said, “This squirrel will not multiply.”

HSN has a large variety of critters, including a “Magic Motion” turtle ring by Princess Amanda and a monkey from Adrienne Arpel.
