Former HSN Host Chris Scanlon LUV’s IT At ShopHQ

April 13, 2014

HSN alum Chris Scanlon has resurfaced — to do a line for ShopHQ, her former network’s competitor.

One of our savvy Facebook friends tipped us off to the news that Scanlon is prepping for a debut this fall on the No. 3 home shopping network.

“I’m excited!,” Scanlon posted on her Facebook page.

“I’ve been working over the last year to create a line of products that I LUV. I’m calling it Luv It by Chris. I have found some real items that I know you will Luv too.”

“We are looking at a launch date on ShopHQ in September. Obviously we’ll keep you posted. If you have any ideas of things you would like to see or items you have that you just wish were made better LET US KNOW. As soon as I can I’ll try getting out sneak peaks. I just know that you’ll ‘LUV IT.’

If we use one of your ideas, I’m going to talk over with my partner what we can do special for you. Just private message me with your ideas.”

She didn’t say what the products were exactly, but she has set up a page for LUV IT.

Scanlon served as a HSN host for years before taking off with her ski instructor husband for Colorado, we believe. We’ll see what she cooks up.

Jersey Girl Lesley Ann Machado Joins HSN Host Roster

November 12, 2011

Well, we’re starting to see who HSN has hired to replace Chris Scanlon and Alicia Perez. They’ve brought on a Jersey Girl, among others.

We fell asleep on the couch after an exhausting week with HSN on, and woke up at 5 a.m. Saturday to see new host Lesley Ann Machado on with designer Antthony Mark Hankins.

They were both chattering away, and Hankins said they had just met and found out each one was from Jersey. Hankins is from Elizabeth, N.J.

He mentioned they had done some “Jersey talk,” as we all do, and that Machado was from a place “one town over” from where he grew up. Machado is Cuban American, and Union City, N.J., has a large Cuban population.

Here is her HSN.com bio:

Born into a loving and very Cuban home, Lesley hails from New Jersey but has spent most of her adult life in Los Angeles, CA. She recently moved to Florida to be part of the HSN family! As a busy first time mom, feeling prepared and looking the part is always important to Lesley Ann. She even wore false eyelashes during the delivery of her baby. “I wanted to look fabulous throughout!”

We all know that Brett Chukerman, of the racy movies, is also an addition to HSN’s host roster. But we also saw another two names that looked new.

Those were Carrie Smith and Anji Corley.

On Smith:

Although she can claim roots in Phoenix, Nashville and Los Angeles, there’s a good chance Carrie Smith has been to your town. Carrie began her career working as an emcee on various country music tours before transitioning her talents to in front of the camera. In 2011 she set her sites on her favorite network, HSN. Combining her love for shopping and passion for the latest products with her positive presence on screen, Carrie now feels she is right at home.

On Corley:

A New York native, Anji, debuted on HSN in 2011 and is thrilled to help viewers with their shopping experience with flash and flavor! She brings an expertise ranging from interviewing A-list celebrities on TV & radio to transforming the lives of young people through mentoring. This “foodie” savors unique eateries, laughing, traveling and spending time with loved ones.

Does New HSN Host Brett Chukerman Have A Checkered Past?

November 5, 2011

Chris Scanlon may be gone, but HSN has a replacement.

The newest addition to HSN’s host roster is Brett Chukerman.

One of our Facebook friends charged that Chukerman is an ex-gay porn star. We guess it is all in the eye of the beholder. The former actor was in a few racy movies, that’s true. According to his IMDB profile, he had roles in “Boys To Men,” “Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds,” “Evil Bong II: King Bong” and “The Curiosity of Chance.”

Here’s a description of “Eating Out 2″ from IMDB: “After Marc dumps him, Kyle unites with Gwen and Tiffani to land sexually confused art model Troy by pretending to be straight. However, Marc wants Troy, too, and members from a notorious ‘ex-gay’ group are slipping for the both of them.”

Chukerman played Marc in that film classic.

Brett Chukerman

Here’s what HSN says about him:

With a love of live television, Brett jumped off the red carpets of Hollywood to join HSN in 2011. His appetite for pop culture is matched by his love of technology. His intellectual curiosity spans from the latest electronics to the newest ideas in health, fitness, and house wares. He has a secret love for country music, historical fiction novels and cats – a strange mixture for sure, but one that keeps viewers guessing what he’ll say next. Brett loves guiding customers in their quest to upgrade and innovate their lives.

Here is his website, with more details: http://www.brettchukerman.com/about/

It says that Chukerman acted “in a slew of independent films before finding his true passion as an on-air host and presenter.” We guess that is referring to titles such as “Eating Out 2.”

He worked for the Auction Network and did red-carpet coverage of the Oscar’s for Oscar.com.

The bio also says that Chukerman has experience on home shopping networks, on Beverly Hills TV and My V Channel in Great Britain.

It’s True: HSN Hosts Chris Scanlon And Alicia Perez Are Gone

October 28, 2011

HSN’s PR Department answered our question about whether hosts Chris Scanlon and Alicia Perez are gone from the home shopping network.

“Following up on your question regarding Chris Scanlon and Alicia Perez, the answer is yes,” the HSN spokesman said in an email. “After being a valued and contributing employee for more than 21 years, Chris Scanlon is no longer with HSN. Alicia Perez is no longer with the company as well. We thank Chris and Alicia for their many contributions to HSN and wish them well in their future endeavors.”

Not much of a send-off for Scanlon, after more than two decades with HSN.

Has Veteran HSN Host Chris Scanlon Skied Off Into The Sunset?

October 28, 2011

HSN PR is checking it out for us, but the buzz is that longtime host Chris Scanlon is leaving the home shopping network.

There have been a number of posts on forums and Scanlon’s Facebook page regarding her departure. She is no longer listed on HSN’s website as a host.

Here is what person wrote on Facebook.

“Her hubby was already a ski instructor there,an recently got hired full time,so they are moving from Florida to Colorado, if i understood Chris correctly…they were traveling back an forth, and the 2-boys are also into skiing, and Chris was in Florida and her hubby and one of the boys would be in Colorado for the winter, so i’m so happy, but yet sad also, but they will all be together now,as that is how it should be…will miss her on HSN !! but truly understand…family comes first..they all ski,by the way…”

Another HSN host, whose names escapes us, is also off HSN’s website. Can anyone help us out on who that was?

UPDATE: My Facebook friends said the other host gone is Alicia Perez.

HSN PR says it will get back to us by tomorrow.

Former HSN Apparel Vendor Terry Lewis Has Surfaced On Facebook

September 9, 2010

We finally found former HSN vendor Terry Lewis — on Facebook.

Lewis’s name popped up Wednesday on our Facebook page because we have some friends in common, and we e-mailed her asking what she was up to and if her devoted HSN fans could buy her clothing line anyplace anymore.

Lewis, a former HSN host whose own line, Classic Luxuries, was discontinued on the No. 2 home shopping network, e-mailed us back but didn’t spill the beans about what she is up to.

“You may ask your friends to identify themselves as customers and I will friend them,” Lewis wrote us. “I am only now joining facebook…Far too busy before. Thanks for your support.”

That was it.

Like us, Lewis was reluctant to join Facebook.

“All of my friends and family who see this are gonna say Oh my God she did it,” Lewis says on her page. “I said I’d never join a social networking site. Here I go… My line was ‘why hide behind a computer’?

She only has about 20 friends so far, but they include HSN hosts Colleen Lopez, Chris Scanlon, Shivan Sarna and ShopNBC vendor and former HSN host Judy Crowell.

Prior to the Facebook connection, we were going to call a phone number we had found for Lewis’s company, which was based in Tampa.

But Lewis’s Facebook profile says she is now in Greenwood, S.C.

Even CEO Mindy Grossman, Along With Criss Angel, Is Live In Vegas For HSN’s 33rd Birthday

August 15, 2010

Criss Angel's HSN Magic Kit

We’ll give credit where credit is due. HSN is really wowing us, first with its “Eat, Pray, Love” event last weekend (more on that later) and this weekend with its live event from Vegas, baby.

We’re watching it now, and illusionist Criss Angel is doing his thing, performing and hawking a magic kit with Callie Northagen.

HSN has transported a host of its hosts — Colleen Lopez, Bill Green, Chris Scanlon, etc. — to Sin City, and its celebrity vendors, like Wolfgang Puck, Jennifer Flavin Stallone to do shows in front of a studio audience. There were 25 celebs doing presentations, and the vibe was fun.

HSN also set up booths in Vegas with its jewelry, apparel, etc. The home shopping network at about 8 p.m. went to a shot of Jean Queen Diane Gilman in her booth, where we saw HSN CEO Mindy Grossman, live and in the flesh.

Lopez gave a shout-out to Grossman as a woman of style (that should ensure a raise, Colleen).

We know that QVC often goes on location, to Italy and Arizona, for example. But HSN’s Vegas event, with sets it built special for the gala and interacting with a live audience, was really creative programming for a home shopping network.

Advice for Chunky QVC and HSN Hosts: You Go Girls, To The Gym, And Skip Wolfgang’s Food

Shannon Smith

The female hosts on QVC and HSN may or may not be getting better, but they sure are getting bigger. Women on both the No. 1 and No. 2 home shopping channels seem to have gained a lot of weight in the past few months, enough that it had us doing a double-take at what we are seeing on the screen.

HSN’s Lynn Murphy, Chris Scanlon, Connie Craig-Carroll, Suzanne Runyan and Shannon Smith are all looking fuller around the face and hips. It’s a sad setback for Smith, who slimmed down last year and looked spectacular.

Perhaps everyone is doing too much sampling when celebrity chefs Wolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse and Todd English are in the house, cooking up a storm to demonstrate their cookware lines.

We aren’t the only ones to notice the weight gains. One writer on an HSN Forum asked whether Murphy was pregnant, because she looks so big. Murphy got married this summer.

If she is pregnant, we’re not aware that she’s officially announced it yet, or if any of her colleagues are pregnant (Here’s a hot tip: Never ask a woman when she’s due unless you are absolutely sure she is pregnant).

And on QVC, right now Jill Bauer, Jane Treacy and Jacque Gonzales sure look a lot wider when they stand up and step away from their tables on-air.

It’s said that the TV camera makes you look 15 pound heavier, but these ladies can’t blame the camera for the girth we are seeing on them now.

They need to start using their own networks’ products, starting with Spanx for a slimmer appearance immediately and then going on NutriSystem to lose the extra pounds.

Maybe everyone should ask QVC host Patti Reilly for her diet secrets. The once hefty host is a sliver of her old self, with a teeny wasp-like waist. Patti, you look marvelous.
